  • Most research on high-rise housing has focused on low-income residences, and usually the psychological and social well-being of women and children. The validity of such findings are questionable for other populations since high-rise living has served other groups and their various needs in particular settings. Lack of knowledge and understanding about high-rises has represented an obstacle to the accurate representation of American urban reality in residential environments. The review of literature and factor analysis identified Important environmental factors. The survey was conducted in the selected downtown high-rise communities of major U.S. cities. Analyses revealed that there were unique characteristics of residents who prefer to live in this type of housing. It was also found that living in middle-income urban high-rise condominiums does not contribute significantly to the problems associated with high-rise living itself. Even though there were some deficiencies of social interaction and activities among residents, the middle-income condominiums were serving particular residents as maintenance-free and safe place imprinted by a positive image of sweet memories or sometimes by a window view presiding over downtown skyline.

  • Pimat-gil is a bystreet over 600-years old of Jong-no in Seoul that originated in the early Joseon Dynasty. This Study defines Pimat-gol (a street village) that has developed centering around Pimat-gil (alley) as a typical backlane of modern city, traces the origin and landscapes of Pimat-gol through the historical geographies of this place, and tries to name and interpret the placeness of Pimat-gol from the angles of social and cultural geography, particularly on the basis of the concept 'place memory'. As a result, the author extracts the placeness of Pimat-gol in terms of juxtaposition of three-fold layers, ie., 'space of subaltern vs. space of escape', 'space of oblivion vs. space of recollecttion and generation', and 'space of fossil vs. space of living'. In addition, the author examines the place memories which have been sedimented in this place and the contest of the place-memories by investigating these three-fold layers, and makes a proposal which would constructs another spatiality of modern city on the basis of this case.

  • This study aims to investigate relationships between benefit sought and selection attributes of green tea consumers. For data collection, a total of 595 copies of questionnaires were collected by convenience sampling in the Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 15.0. The factor analysis identified four dimensions of the benefit sought : health benefit, sensory, sociality, and self-esteem. Six dimensions of selection attributes were identified as manufacturing, design, sensory appeal, recommendation, utility and brand. The results of the canonical correlation analysis indicated that health benefit, sensory, sociality of benefit sought and manufacturing, design, sensory appeal, recommendation, utility, brand of selection attributes were highly correlated, and the self-esteem of benefit sought and recommendation of selection attribute were highly correlated. This means it is important to place an emphasis on safety production, package design, sensory characteristics, product description, utility and brand for consumers who seek health benefit, flavor and sociality. It is also important to place an emphasis on product description for consumers who pursue self-esteem benefits. Green tea marketers should consider benefit sought aspects as the most important factors affecting selection attributes on green tea purchasing.
