  • In this paper, wavelet based blind watermarking using self-reference method is proposed. First, we process wavelet transform of original image. Then, we set all domain except for the low-frequency domain to zero and make self-reference image after wavelet reverse transformation. By choosing specific domain according to the pixel value difference between original image and self-reference image, we make random sequence, use as watermark and embed. The experimental results of the watermark embedding and extraction on various images show that the proposed scheme not only has good image quality, but also has stability on JPEG lossy compression, filtering, sharpening, blurring and noise.

  • Noise removal is a pre-requisite procedure in image processing, and various methods have been studied depending on the type of noise and the environment of the image. However, for image processing with high-frequency components, conventional additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) removal techniques are rather lacking in performance because of the blurring phenomenon induced thereby. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to minimize the blurring in AWGN removal processes. The proposed algorithm sets the high-frequency and the low-frequency component filters, respectively, depending on the pixel properties in the mask, consequently calculating the output of each filter with the addition or subtraction of the input image to the reference. The final output image is obtained by adding the weighted data calculated using the standard deviations and the Gaussian distribution with the output of the two filters. The proposed algorithm shows improved AWGN removal performance compared to the existing method, which was verified by simulation.

  • Digital imaging equipment has been used for a variety of purposes in a wide range of society and has become an important element of the fourth industrial revolution. However, there are various causes of noise in the process of transmitting / receiving data and processing of the equipment, thus affecting the accuracy and reliability of the equipment. In this paper, we propose an image restoration algorithm based on pixel range set by standard deviation to effectively remove Salt and Pepper noise. In the conventional methods, the performance degrades in the edge and high frequency components of the image. However, the proposed method has better noise reduction performance than the conventional method by performing the noise elimination considering the image boundary. It has confirmed that the performance of such PSNR and magnified image, the experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm superior compared to existing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an image downscaler used in multimedia video applications, such as DTV, TV-PIP, PC-video, camcorder, videophone and so on. The proposed image downscaler provides a scaled image of high-quality and high-performance. This paper will explain the scaling theory using two-dimensional digital filters. It is the method that removes an aliasing noise and decreases the hardware complexity, compared with Pixel-drop and Upsamling. Also, this paper will prove it improves scaling precisians and decreases the loss of data, compared with the Scaler32, the Bt829 of Brooktree, and the SAA7114H of Philips. The proposed downscaler consists of the following four blocks: line memory, vertical scaler, horizontal scaler, and FIFO memory. In order to reduce the hardware complexity, the using digital filters are implemented by the multiplexer-adder type scheme and their all the coefficients can be simply implemented by using shifters and adders. It also decreases the loss of high frequency data because it provides the wider BW of 6MHz as adding the compensation filter. The proposed downscaler is modeled by using the Verilog-HDL and the model is verified by using the Cadence simulator. After the verification is done, the model is synthesized into gates by using the Synopsys. The synthesized downscaler is Placed and routed by the Mentor with the IDEC-C632 0.65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ library for further IC implementation. The IC master is fixed in size by 4,500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$4,500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The active layout size of the proposed downscaler is 2,528${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$3,237${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • Automatic lipreading is to recognize speech by observing the movement of a speaker's lips. It has received attention recently as a method of complementing performance degradation of acoustic speech recognition in acoustically noisy environments. One of the important issues in automatic lipreading is to define and extract salient features from the recorded images. In this paper, we propose a feature extraction method by using a new filtering technique for obtaining improved recognition performance. The proposed method eliminates frequency components which are too slow or too fast compared to the relevant speech information by applying a band-pass filter to the temporal trajectory of each pixel in the images containing the lip region and, then, features are extracted by principal component analysis. We show that the proposed method produces improved performance in both clean and visually noisy conditions via speaker-independent recognition experiments.

  • HEVC RExt(High Efficiency Video Coding Range Extension) set a goal to support RGB/YUV 4:2:2 4:4:4 color sampling and over 10 bit-depth images. Unlike the previous 4:2:0 color sampling images, RGB images have the high correlation in inter-color planes. Using this characteristic, some methods which are contributed in JCT-VC standardization meetings estimate the pixel values of inter-color plane. But when we use the estimation of inter-color plane in RGB images, high frequency components of RGB images are caused to reduce the coding efficiency because they usually have the low inter-color plane correlation. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an adaptive low pass filtering method in the inter-color plane estimation. Using this method, we can improve the estimation efficiency of inter-color plane in RGB images. The experimental results with HEVC RExt RGB test sequences show that the proposed method has 0.6% BD(Bjontegaard Distortion)-rate gain and some increased complexity compared to the previous inter-color plane estimation method.

  • It is known that the digital image enlargement technique which only uses spatially neighbored pixels information in a still image can increase the size of the image but the practical enhancement of resolution is small because the frequency bandwidth of the image is basically limited. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the digital image enlargement technique that improves the reconstruction of the edge components by selectively transposing the direction of the subwindows of pseudomedian filter according to the distribution of neighbored pixels to the interpolation point. The pseudomedian filter has the better performance in aspect of the reconstruction of edge information when the pixel values masked by two subwindows parallel to the interpolation point are very similar and the pixel values masked by another subwindow that is orthogonal to the above two subwindows are similar to each other. In this paper, the computer simulation for digital image enlargement was performed with consideration of these characteristics when selecting the subwindows of pseudomedina filter. Based on this simulation result, the performance of the proposed method was analysed and its effectiveness was assessed. According to the proposed method, visual artifacts that result from using the limited samples can be effectively suppressed, and most characteristics and shapes of the original image can be preserved as well.

  • The Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data are considered to contain the greatest amount of information among various microwave techniques developed for measuring ocean variables from aircraft or satellites. They have the potential of measuring wavelength, wave direction and wave height of the ocean waves. But, it is difficult to retrieve significant ocean wave heights and surface current from conventional SAR data, since the imaging mechanism of ocean waves by a SAR is determined by the three basic modulation processes arise through the tilt modulation, hydrodynamic modulation and velocity bunching which are poorly known functions. Along-Track Interferometric (ATI) SAR systems can directly detect the Doppler shift associated with each pixel of a SAR image and have been used to estimate wave fields and surface currents. However, the Doppler shift is not simply proportional to the component of the mean surface current. It includes also contributions associated with the phase velocity of the Brags waves and orbital motions of all ocean waves that are longer than Brags waves. In this paper, we have developed a new method for extracting the surface current vector using multiple-frequency (L- & C-band) ATI SAR data, and have generated surface wave height information.

  • Image compression is the application of Data compression on digital images. The (DCT) discrete cosine transform is a technique for converting a time domain to a frequency domain. It is widely used in image compression. First, the image is divided into 8x8 pixel blocks. Apply the DCT to each block while processing from top to bottom from left to right. Each block is compressed through quantization. The space of the compressed block array constituting the image is greatly reduced. Reconstruct the image through the IDCT. The purpose of this research is to understand compression/decompression of images using the DCT method.

  • A LCoS micro-display using polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) for light switching layer was fabricated. The Si backplane of SVGA ($800{\times}600$) with a pixel size of $14{\times}14mm^2$ was prepared by a $0.35{\mu}m$ 18V CMOS process. PDLCs were filled in the gap between backplane and ITO glass by conventional vacuum filling method. The prepared panels were driven by a field sequential color (FSC) scheme at the frequency of 180Hz and were successful in modulating LED lights to show projection images. The preparation and performance of PDLC-LCoS are presented.
