Steganography technology protects the existence of hidden information by embedding a secret message in a specific location on the cover medium. Security and resistance are strengthened by applying various hybrid methods based on encryption and steganography. In particular, techniques to increase chaos and randomness are needed to improve security. In fact, the case where the shuffling method is applied based on the discrete cosine transform(DCT) and the least significant bit(LSB) is an area that needs to be studied. I propose a new approach to hide the bit information of Hangul messages by integrating the selective shuffling method that can add the complexity of message hiding and applying the spatial domain technique to steganography. Inverse shuffling is applied when extracting messages. In this paper, the Hangul message to be inserted is decomposed into the choseong, jungseong and jongseong. It improves security and chaos by applying a selective shuffling process based on the corresponding information. The correlation coefficient and PSNR were used to confirm the performance of the proposed method. It was confirmed that the PSNR value of the proposed method was appropriate when compared with the reference value.
This paper is an overview of research contributions by the authors to the use of compression techniques to handle high resolution, multi-spectral images. Originally developed in the remote sensing context, the same techniques are here applied to food and medical images. The objective is to point out the potential of this kind of processing in different contexts such as remote sensing, food monitoring, and medical imaging and to stimulate new research exploitations. Compression is based on the simple assumption that it is possible to find out a relationship between pixels close one each other in multi-spectral images it translates to the possibility to say that there is a certain degree of correlation within pixels belonging to the same band in a close neighbourhood. Once found a correlation based on certain coefficient on one band, the coefficients of this relationship are, in turn, quite probably, similar to the ones calculated in one of the other bands. Based upon this second observation, an algorithm was developed, able to reduce the number of bit/pixel from 16 to 4 in satellite remote sensed multi-spectral images. A comparison is carried out between different methods about their speed and compression ratio. As reference it was taken the behaviour of three common algorithms, LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch), Huffman and RLE (Run Length Encoding), as they are used in common graphic format such as GIF, JPEG and PCX. The Presented methods have similar results in both speed and compression ratio to the commonly used programs and are to be preferred when the decompression must be carried out on line, inside a main program or when there is the need of a custom made compression algorithm.
Land Surface Temperature (LST) retrieved from Landsat 8 measured from 2013 to 2014 and it is corrected by surface temperature observed from ground. LST maps are retrieved from Landsat 8 calculate using the linear regression function between raw Landsat 8 LST and ground surface temperature. Seasonal and annual LST maps developed an average LST from season to annual, respectively. While the higher LSTs distribute on the industrial and commercial area in urban, lower LSTs locate in surrounding rural, sea, river and high altitude mountain area over Seoul and surrounding area. In order to correct the LST, linear regression function calculate between Landsat 8 LST and ground surface temperature observed 3 Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) synoptic stations (Seoul(ID: 108), Incheon(ID: 112) and Suwon(ID: 119)) on the Seoul and surrounding area. The slopes of regression function are 0.78 with all data and 0.88 with clear sky except 5 cloudy pixel data. And the original Landsat 8 LST have a correlation coefficient with 0.88 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) with $5.33^{\circ}C$. After LST correction, the LST have correlation coefficient with 0.98 and RMSE with $2.34^{\circ}C$ and the slope of regression equation improve the 0.95. Seasonal and annual LST maps represent from urban to rural area and from commercial to industrial region clearly. As a result, the Landsat 8 LST is more similar to the real state when corrected by surface temperature observed ground.

Texture imaging, which means texture image creation by co-occurrence relation, has been known as one of the useful image analysis methodologies. For this purpose, most commercial remote sensing software provides texture analysis function named GLCM (Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix). In this study, texture-imaging program based on GLCM algorithm is newly implemented. As well, texture imaging modules for GLDV (Grey Level Difference Vector) are contained in this program. As for GLCM/GLDV Texture imaging parameters, it composed of six types of second order texture functions such as Homogeneity, Dissimilarity, Energy, Entropy, Angular Second Moment, and Contrast. As for co-occurrence directionality in GLCM/GLDV, two direction modes such as Omni-mode and Circular mode newly implemented in this program are provided with basic eight-direction mode. Omni-mode is to compute all direction to avoid directionality complexity in the practical level, and circular direction is to compute texture parameters by circular direction surrounding a target pixel in a kernel. At the second phase of this study, some case studies with artificial image and actual satellite imagery are carried out to analyze texture images in different parameters and modes by correlation matrix analysis. It is concluded that selection of texture parameters and modes is the critical issues in an application based on texture image fusion.
The occurrence and intensity of wildfires are increasing with climate change. Emissions from forest fire smoke are recognized as one of the major causes affecting air quality and the greenhouse effect. The use of satellite product and machine learning is essential for detection of forest fire smoke. Until now, research on forest fire smoke detection has had difficulties due to difficulties in cloud identification and vague standards of boundaries. The purpose of this study is to detect forest fire smoke using Level 1 and Level 2 data of Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS), a Korean environmental satellite sensor, and machine learning. In March 2022, the forest fire in Gangwon-do was selected as a case. Smoke pixel classification modeling was performed by producing wildfire smoke label images and inputting GEMS Level 1 and Level 2 data to the random forest model. In the trained model, the importance of input variables is Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), 380 nm and 340 nm radiance difference, Ultra-Violet Aerosol Index (UVAI), Visible Aerosol Index (VisAI), Single Scattering Albedo (SSA), formaldehyde (HCHO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), 380 nm radiance, and 340 nm radiance were shown in that order. In addition, in the estimation of the forest fire smoke probability (0 ≤ p ≤ 1) for 2,704 pixels, Mean Bias Error (MBE) is -0.002, Mean Absolute Error (MAE) is 0.026, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is 0.087, and Correlation Coefficient (CC) showed an accuracy of 0.981.

In transmitting compressed video bit-stream over Internet, packet losses cause error propagations in both spatial and temporal domains, which in turn leads to severe degradation I image quality. In this paper, a new error concealment algorithm, called EBMA(Edge Detection based Boundary Matching Algorithm), is proposed to repair damaged portions of the video frames in the receiver. Conventional BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) assumes that the pixels on the boundary of the missing block and its neighboring blocks are very similar, but has no consideration of edges across the boundary. In our approach, the edges are detected across the boundary of the lost or erroneous block. Once the orientation of each edge is found, only the pixel difference along the expected edges across the boundary is measured instead of the calculation of difference along the expected edges across the boundary is measured instead of the calculation of differences between all adjacent pixels on the boundary Therefore, the proposed approach needs very few computations and the experiment shows and improvement of the performance over the conventional BMA in terms of both subjective and objective quality of video sequences.

This paper proposes a multitoning method using threshold modulation of MJBNM(Modified Jointly Blue Noise Mask) for banding artifacts reduction. As banding artifacts in multitoning appear as uniform dot distributions around the intermediate output levels, such multitone output results in discontinuity and visually unpleasing patterns in smooth transition regions. Therefore, to reduce these banding artifacts, the proposed method rearranges the dot distribution by introducing pixels in the neighborhood of output levels that occurs banding artifacts. First of all principal cause of banding artifacts are analyzed using mathematical description. Based on this analytical result, a threshold modulation technique of MJBNM which takes account of chrominance error and correlation between channels is applied. The original threshold range of MJBNM is first scaled linearly sot that the minimum and maximum of the scaled range include two pixel more than adjacent two output levels that cover an input value. In an input value is inside the vicinity of any intermediate output levels produce banding artifacts, the output is set to one of neighboring output levels based on the pointwise comparison result according to threshold modulation parameter that determines the dot density and distribution. In this case, adjacent pixels are introduced at the position where the scaled threshold values are located between two output levels and the minimum and maximum threshold values. Otherwise, a conventional multitoning method is applied. As a result, the proposed method effectively decreased the appearance of banding artifacts around the intermediate output levels. To evaluate the quality of the multitone result, HVS-WRMSE according to gray level for gray ramp image and S-CIELAB color difference for color ramp image are compared with other methods.
Despite of large demand for high spatial resolution products of aerosol properties from satellite remote sensing, it has been very difficult due to the weak signal by a single pixel and higher noise from clouds. In this study, aerosol retrieval algorithm with the high spatial resolution ($500m{\times}500m$) was developed using Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) data during the Korea-US Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) period in May-June, 2016.Currently, conventional GOCI Yonsei aerosol retrieval(YAER) algorithm provides $6km{\times}6km$ spatial resolution product. The algorithm was tested for its best possible resolution of 500 m product based on GOCI YAER version 2 algorithm. With the new additional cloud masking, aerosol optical depth (AOD) is retrieved using the inversion method, aerosol model, and lookup table as in the GOCI YAER algorithm. In some cases, 500 m AOD shows consistent horizontal distribution and magnitude of AOD compared to the 6 km AOD. However, the 500 m AOD has more retrieved pixels than 6 km AOD because of its higher spatial resolution. As a result, the 500 m AOD exists around small clouds and shows finer features of AOD. To validate the accuracy of 500 m AOD, we used dataset from ground-based Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) sunphotometer over Korea. Even with the spatial resolution of 500 m, 500 m AOD shows the correlation coefficient of 0.76 against AERONET, and the ratio within Expected Error (EE) of 51.1%, which are comparable to the results of 6 km AOD.
Video compression based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) has weakpoints of blocking artifacts and pixel loss when the resolution is changed. DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) based method can overcome such problems. In SAMCoW (Scalable Adaptive Motion Compensation Wavelet), one of wavelet based video coding algorithm, both intra frames and motion compensated error frames are encoded using EZW(Embedded Zerotree Wavelet) algorithm. However the property of wavelets transform coefficients of motion compensated error frames are different from that of still images. Signal energy is not highly concentrated in the lower bands which is true for most still image cases. Signal energy is rather evenly distributed over all frequency bands. This paper suggests a new video coding algorithm utilizing these properties. Spatial band coding which is known to be very effective for encoding images with relative1y high frequency components and not utilizing the interband coefficients correlation is applied instead of EZW to encode both intra and inter frames. In spatial band coding, the position and value of significant wavelet coefficients in each band are progressively transmitted. Unlike EZW, inter band coefficients correlations are not utilized in spatial band coding. It has been shown that spatial band coding gives better performance than EZW when applied to wavelet based video compression.
