This paper presents a fault-tolerant control technique for wind turbine systems with sensor and actuator faults. The control objective is to maximize power production and minimize turbine loads by calculating a desired pitch angle within their limits. Any fault with a sensor and actuator can cause significant error in the pitch position of the corresponding blade. This problem may result in insufficient torque such that the power reference cannot be achieved. In this paper, a fault-tolerant control technique using a robust dynamic inversion observer and control allocation is employed to achieve successful pitch control despite these faults in the sensor and actuator. The observer based detection method is used to detect and isolate sensor faults by checking whether errors are larger than threshold values. In addition, the control allocation technique is adopted to tolerate actuator fault. Control allocation is one of the most commonly used fault-tolerant control techniques, especially for over-actuated systems. Further, the control allocation method can be used to achieve the power reference even in the event of blade actuator fault by redistributing the lost torque due to erroneous pitch position into non-faulty blade actuators. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulations with a benchmark model of the wind turbine.

This paper presents an integrated roll-pitch-yaw autopilot using an equivalent based sliding mode control for skid-to-turn nonlinear time-varying missile system with lumped disturbances in its six-equations of motion. The considered missile model are developed to integrate the model uncertainties, external disturbances, and parameters perturbation as lumped disturbances. Moreover, it considers the coupling effect between channels, the variation of missile velocity and parameters, and the aerodynamics nonlinearity. The presented approach is employed to achieve a good tracking performance with robustness in all missile channels simultaneously during the entire flight envelope without demand of accurate modeling or output derivative to avoid the noise existence in the real missile system. The proposed autopilot consisting of a two-loop structure, controls pitch and yaw accelerations, and stabilizes the roll angle simultaneously. The Closed loop stability is studied. Numerical simulation is provided to evaluate performance of the suggested autopilot and to compare it with an existing autopilot in the literature concerning the robustness against the lumped disturbances, and the aforesaid considerations. Finally, the proposed autopilot is integrated in a six degree of freedom flight simulation model to evaluate it with several target scenarios, and the results are shown.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the dynamic stall characteristics of an elliptic airfoil when subject to constant pitch motions. In this study, which was motivated by the pressing need for a greater understanding of the reduced frequency$({\kappa})$ effects on flow patterns of elliptic airfoil, the various reduced frequencies were considered. The result confirms that the reduced frequency has a profound effects on the flow patterns. The increase of ${\kappa}$ accelerate the separation bubble bursting process up to ${\kappa}=0.10$, then diminish with further increase in ${\kappa}$. Compared with static condition, the dynamic pitching airfoil delays stall angle approximate $4{\circ}{\sim}5{\circ}$ during pitch-up stroke for ${\kappa}=0.10$. Results from this qualitative analysis provided valuable insight Into the control of dynamics stall.
In this paper, the driving information system of the bicycle has been studied by using the 3-axis acceleration sensor. The sensor module composed of 3-axis acceleration sensor and MCU(Microcontroller Unit) was mounted onto the handle of bicycle and the experiments were conducted on the flatland, uphill and downhill of bicycle road. Three axis acceleration values were converted to the pitch and roll angles, then four major compensation methods have been applied to achieve meaningful data for driving information system. The experimental results of pitch angles showed 2.46, -1.26, 7.79 degrees in case of flatland, uphill, downhill, respectively. When the steering handle turned to the left direction, roll angles showed -29.35, -41.67, -36.98 degrees at each road condition. With the right-turn, roll angles presented 20.05, 33.75, 24.44 degrees in case of flatland, uphill, and downhill, respectively. The pitch angle has been increased more than 40 degrees at stop mode. By using the change of pitch and roll angles, we could obtain the driving information system of bicycle successfully.

This paper proposes an attitude and direction control of a single wheel balanced robot. A unicycle robot is controlled by two independent control laws: the mobile inverted pendulum control method for pitch axis and the reaction wheel pendulum control method for roll axis. It is assumed that both roll dynamics and pitch dynamics are decoupled. Therefore the roll and pitch dynamics are obtained independently considering the interaction as disturbances to each other. Each control law is implemented by a controller separately. The unicycle robot has two DC motors to drive the disk for roll and to drive the wheel for pitch. Since there is no force to change the yaw direction, the present paper proposes a method for changing the yaw direction. The angle data are obtained by a fusion of a gyro sensor and an accelerometer. Experimental results show the performance of the controller and verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Stealthy, high maneuverability and super cruise abilities are required for the next generation fighter and unmanned aircraft. Thrust vector control technique currently come into use to meet these requirements. In this experimental study, axial and pitch thrust were measured and Schlieren visualization were carried out using the scaled two dimensional thrust vector nozzles under various pitch deflection angle, pitch flap length and height. From the study, we could get the supersonic flow characteristics and draw an optimum geometric configuration of the two dimensional thrust vector nozzle.
Wind turbine system converts wind energy into electric energy. Since the velocity of wind is random in nature, control of the angular velocity of the blade is necessary in order to generate high quality electric power. The control of a blade can be divided into a stall regulation and a pitch control types. The stall regulation type which is based on the characteristics of an aerodynamic stall of the blades is simple and cheap, but it suffers from fluctuation of the resulting power. Or the contrary, pitch control type is based on the fact that the torque of the blade can be changed by varying the pitch angle of the blade. It is mechanically and mathematically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation type. This paper suggests a method of denying a mathematical modeling of the wind turbine system, and develops a speed control algorithm by pitch control. The validity of the algorithm is demonstrated with the results produced through sets of simulation.

In order to use the LED video wall in the broadcasting studio, there are a few things to be aware of. First, since the pixels are closely arranged, a moire phenomenon may occur due to a short arrangement period, and second, the distance between pixels (pixel pitch) may be recorded on the image sensor of the broadcasting camera. When moire occurs or pixel pitch is observed, viewers feel uncomfortable. Moire effect can be reduced by adjusting the shooting distance or angle of the camera, but in order to prevent the pixel pitch from being recorded on the image sensor, secure a sufficient distance between the LED video wall and camera. even when the distance secured, the zoom lens used in the broadcasting studio must be operated by appropriately changing the magnification. If the focal length is changed by changing the magnification to obtain a desired angle of view, the pixel pitch may be unintentionally recorded. In this study we propose the range that the pixel pitch is not observed while changing the magnification ratio of the zoom lens when the distance from the video wall is sufficiently secured. The content was played back on the LED video wall and the LED video wall was recorded on the server using an HD camera equipped with a B4 mount zoom lens

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of swirler angle and the aspect ratio of swirl chamber of nozzle on the characteristics of single and twin spray. The characteristics of sprays have been investigated by measuring the spray angle, droplet size and velocity. Visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle and breakup process. The spray characteristics such as droplet size and velocity were measured by Phase Doppler Anemometry(PDA). It was found that the spray angle was increased with increasing the swirler angle. For both sprays, the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the swirler angle. It was also shown that the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the aspect ratio of swirl chamber, but for the twin spray, the axial velocity and SMD were not influenced significantly by the changing the aspect ratio of swirl chamber. The effect of swirler angle on the spray characteristics was greater than the aspect ratio of swirl chamber for single spray. The nozzle pitch was one of the important factors affecting the spray characteristics of twin spray.

The uneven reaction surface profile facing the lift magnets in attractive Maglev vehicles naturally brings about pitch motion of the bogie. In particular, in the placement configuration of the long stator of the linear synchronous motor (LSM) on the track for high-speed propulsion, surface irregularities and the offsets between the stator packs create measurable airgaps, i.e., the clearance between the magnet and the stator, with discontinuously extreme values, resulting in bogie pitch motion. This occurs because the airgap velocities and accelerations derived by the differentiations of the measured air-gaps are used to determine the voltages applied to the magnets. This paper incorporates bogie pitch motion into a control law for each magnet controller to reduce the variations in both the airgap and the pitch angle. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed using a full-scale Maglev vehicle running over a test track.
