  • This study considered the effects on the seabed of a harbor and quay wall from ship maneuvers in relation to the thruster jet flow and initial velocity. This study also included the engine capacity, RPM, and diameter and pitch of a ship's thruster for a required speed. The impact of a scour hole on the environment of a quay wall was investigated. Based on these results, a risk based analysis was conducted to evaluate different strategies and their consequences. There has been an increase in the loads on the bottom of a harbor during ship maneuvering. This increase is caused by the propeller loads of mooring and unmooring vessels. This indicates a greater number of arrivals and departures of vessels with larger drafts, larger thruster diameters, and larger available thruster power capacities. Another important cause could be an increase in the maneuverability of vessels from the use of bow thrusters. The increasing loads, which cause a higher jet flow above the bottom, can lead to undesirable scour holes.

  • Shock absorber for rotorcraft landing gear should absorb landing impact during landing and isolate vibration to fuselage during taxiing. Double stage oleo-pneumatic shock absorber is known to have better performances than single stage oleo-pneumatic shock absorber. This paper deals with the z-direction translational acceleration at mass center, roil and pitch angular acceleration of fuselage for single and double stage oleo-pneumatic shock absorber at nose landing gear when a 6DOF rigid model is taxiing on the pound.

  • In this paper, an investigation of the 8" process for Trench Power MOSFET Application and Trench MOSFETs and its impact on device performance is presented. Layout dimensions of trench power MOSFETs have been continuously reduced in order to decrease the specific on-resistance, maintaining equal vertical dimensions. We discuss experimental results for devices with a pitch size down fabricated with an unconventional gate trench topology and a simplified manufacturing scheme. The fabricated Trench MOSFETs are observed the trench gate oxidation by SEM.

  • In this study, the crashworthiness analysis was carried out for the hat type section side rails which had an important role of absorbing the impact energy during frontal crash. In case of a tapered hat type section model, numerical simulation models and test models were designed with varing design variables; welding pitch, taper angle, initiator shape, initiator location. The effect of variation of the design variables was investigated by quasi-static and dynamic test and numerical simulation.

  • This paper concerns the possibility of 3D printing reverse idle gears for tractor transmission. For the purposes of this experiment, idle gears were manufactured using a SLA 3D printer, FDM 3D printer, and through machining. The accuracy of the idle gears produced in these three different ways were evaluated by the properties of their outer diameter, inner diameter, roundness, concentricity, parallelism, span, backlash, and gear grade. The tooth characteristics of the idle gears were evaluated by their profile, lead, and the pitch of the gears. The results of this experiment determined that the surface conditions created by the finishing process had a significant impact on the dimensional accuracy of the gears and the characteristics of their teeth.

  • This paper presents the investigations on the initial strength and its variation of Sn-Pb solder joint using different lead frames, such as are 42 alloy lead and Cu alloy lead. As the result of the lack of initial strength at solder joints, whose pitch is from 0.3 to 0.4mm, short circuit often occured at the solder joint by thermal shock or external impact. Therefore, in this paper investigations were performed on the initial strength and its variation of Sn-Pb solder joint as well as fractured mode with using different lead frames.

  • Nowadays, offshore wind energy experiences a rapid development because of its wind condition and no noise impact problem. Different from Europe, offshore wind is just started in Asia. More work and research are needed in Korea. In this work, a three-bladed upwind variable speed pitch controlled 5MW wind turbine on a jacket support structure is used. During the simulation, several design load cases are investigated in two different fully coupled aero-hydro-servo-elastic codes. Some critical loads on the foundation are compared and analyzed.

  • Fluidelastic instability and nonlinear dynamics of tube bundles is a key issue in a steam generator. Especially, once the post-instability motion of the tube becomes larger than the clearance gap to other tubes, effective contact or impact between the tubes under consideration and the other tube inevitable. There is seldom theoretical analysis to the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of a tube array in two-phase flow. In this paper, experimental and numerical studies were utilized to obtain the critical velocity of the flow-induced instability of a rotated triangular tube array. The calculation results agreed well with the experimental data. To explore the post-instability dynamics of the tube array system, a Runge-Kutta scheme was used to solve the nonlinear governing equations of tube motion. The numerical results indicated that, when the flow pitch velocity is larger than the critical velocity, the tube array system is undergoing a limit cycle motion, and the dynamic characteristics of the tube array are almost similar for different void fractions.

  • This paper presents calibration of flush air data sensing systems during ascent period of a satellite launch vehicle. Aerodynamic results are numerically computed by solving three-dimensional time dependent compressible Euler equations over a payload shroud of a satellite launch vehicle. The flush air data system consists of four pressure ports flushed on a blunt-cone section of the payload shroud and connected to on board differential pressure transducers. The inverse algorithm uses calibration charts which are based on computed and measured data. A controlled random search method coupled with neural network technique is employed to estimate pitch and yaw angles from measured transient differential pressure history. The algorithm predicts the flow direction stepwise with the function of flight Mach numbers and can be termed as an online method. Flow direction of the launch vehicle is compared with the reconstructed trajectory data. The estimated values of the flow direction are in good agreement with them.
