In reliability based design and assessment (RBDA) methodology, reliability targets are used to ensure that safety levels are met relevant limit states in the stage of design and maintenance. The target reliability for flammable gas pipelines have not been developed yet in Korea. Instead of the reliability targets, the tolerable criteria for risk measures such as societal and individual risk have been applied in pipeline risk management. This paper introduces the procedures to develop the target reliability using tolerable risk criteria for societal and individual risk which can be enforced for high pressure natural gas pipelines in quantitative risk assessment. In addition, we propose the target reliability for natural gas and hydrogen gas transmission pipelines by the procedures.

With the increase in the exploitation depth of offshore oil and gas, it is possible to control the global buckling of deep-sea pipelines by the snake lay method. Previous studies mainly focused on the analysis of critical buckling force and critical temperature of pipelines under the snake-like laying method, and pipelines often suffer structural failure due to seismic disasters during operation. Therefore, seismic action is a necessary factor in the design and analysis of submarine pipelines. In this paper, the seismic action of steel pipes in the operation stage after global buckling has occurred under the active control method is analyzed. Firstly, we have established a simplified finite element model for the entire process cycle and found that this modeling method is accurate and efficient, solving the problem of difficult convergence of seismic wave and soil coupling in previous solid analysis, and improving the efficiency of calculations. Secondly, through parameter analysis, it was found that under seismic action, the pipe diameter mainly affects the stress amplitude of the pipeline. When the pipe wall thickness increases from 0.05 m to 0.09 m, the critical buckling force increases by 150%, and the maximum axial stress decreases by 56%. In the pipe soil interaction, the greater the soil viscosity, the greater the pipe soil interaction force, the greater the soil constraint on the pipeline, and the safer the pipeline. Finally, the pipeline failure determination formula was obtained through dimensionless analysis and verified, and it was found that the formula was accurate.

A new layered shear continuum model box was developed to address the dynamic response issues of buried oil and gas pipelines under multi-point excitation. Vibration table tests were conducted to investigate the seismic response of buried pipelines and the surrounding soil under longitudinal multi-point excitation. A nonlinear model of the pipeline-soil interaction was established using ABAQUS finite element software for simulation and analysis. The seismic response characteristics of the pipeline and soil under longitudinal multi-point excitation were clarified through vibration table tests and simulation. The results showed good consistency between the simulation and tests. The acceleration of the soil and pipeline exhibited amplification effects at loading levels of 0.1 g and 0.2 g, which significantly reduced at loading levels of 0.4 g and 0.62 g. The peak acceleration increased with increasing loading levels, and the peak frequency was in the low-frequency range of 0 Hz to 10 Hz. The amplitude in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 50 Hz showed a significant decreasing trend. The displacement peak curve of the soil increased with the loading level, and the nonlinearity of the soil resulted in a slower growth rate of displacement. The strain curve of the pipeline exhibited a parabolic shape, with the strain in the middle of the pipeline about 3 to 3.5 times larger than that on both sides. This study provides an effective theoretical basis and test basis for improving the seismic resistance of buried oil and gas pipelines.

Recently, researches for buried lifelines such as pipelines have been carried out to provide for safe design. On of the major causes to the damage of buried pipelines has been soil liquefaction. Analytical models have been presented to compare with the results from recent model experiment under a soil liquefaction environment induced by seismic shaking table. The analytical results were more than two times those those of experimental measurement. Thus the objective of this study is to introduce a rigorous nonlinear analysis of equation of motion with more realistic parameters which are dynamic soil and water pressure, dynamic subgrade reaction coefficient, and damping coefficient for soil liquefaction environment.

In this paper, a parallel deep learning model using a convolutional neural network and a dilated convolutional neural network is proposed to classify Alzheimer's disease with high accuracy in PET/CT images. The developed model consists of two pipelines, a conventional CNN pipeline, and a dilated convolution pipeline. An input image is sent through both pipelines, and at the end of both pipelines, extracted features are concatenated and used for classifying Alzheimer's disease. Complimentary abilities of both networks provide better overall accuracy than single conventional CNNs in the dataset. Moreover, instead of performing binary classification, the proposed model performs three-class classification being Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and normal control. Using the data received from Dong-a University, the model performs classification detecting Alzheimer's disease with an accuracy of up to 95.51%.

Recently, various inpipe inspection robots are developed and its effective values are increased in industrial use. However, it is so difficult to make a inpipe inspection robot system which has flexible mobility and accuracy of inspection in pipelines. Especially, it is very important to know the exact crack position. In this paper, we are to present a lately developed inpipe inspection robot system which can resolve the above Problems. The robot is configured as an articulated structure like a snake. Two active driving vehicles are located in front and rear of the inspection robot respectively and passive modules such as a nondestructive testing module and a control module are chained between the active vehicles. Special feature of the robot system is a ground interface, which is able to show informations of robot and pipelines. By using this, so called virtual map in this paper, user is able to know the pipelines'feature and crack position.
With the rapid increase in gas consumption, the role of pipelines as a transportation means of natural gas is increasing. In general, when natural gas is being transported in pipelines, some liquid mainly from formation of condensate is introduced and this phenomenon makes operational problems more complex in the gas industry. Thus, an appropriate method is necessary for predicting the effect of presence of gas condensate on operational efficiency. In this study, a statistical model was developed using an integrated single- and two-phase flows concept. Using this model, the effects of the incipient point of gas condensate and its quantity on outlet pressure were analyzed. Also, the effect of variations of flow regimes in two-phase region on outlet pressure after the incipient point was analyzed.

It is widely known that the leak locating of underground plastic pipelines is much more difficult than that of cast iron pipelines. The precision of the leak locating depends upon the speed of leak signal and the time delay estimation between the two sensors on the pipeline. In this paper, six different windowing filters are considered to improve the time delay estimation especially for the plastic pipelines. The time delay is usually estimated from the peak time of cross-correlation functions. The filtering windows including rectangle, Roth, Wiener, SCOT, PHAT and maximum likelihood are applied to derive the generalized cross-correlation function and compared each other. Experimental results for the actual plastic underground water supply pipeline show that the introduction of the filtering windows improved the precision of time delay estimation. Some window functions provide excellent leak locating capability for the plastic pipe of 98 m long, which is less than 1 % of the pipe lengths. Also a new probabilistic approach that the combinations of all results from each filtering window is suggested for the better leak locating.

The West-East Nature Gas Pipeline is a great project in China. Advanced remote sensing technology combined with GIS and GPS is used to select the favorable plan from various possible routes through interpreting the information of topographic landform, regional geology, disaster geology, traffic conditions and nature environment from remote sensing images. There are a lot of changes in geographical and environmental factors along such pipelines due to the rapid development in China. Image maps produced from new satellite data can identify these changes and be used successfully not only on route-selection studies but also on in situ investigation, together with GPS. Results from detail analysis provide necessary information and parameters for plan, design and construction of the pipeline and they are also the basic data for the pipeline database. The set of techniques has been applied on planning and designing several pipelines successfully.
Multi-regional water supply system, which installed for supplying multiple water demands, is characterized by large-sized, long-distance, tree-type layout. This system is vulnerable to long-standing service interruption when a pipe breaks is occurred. In this study, a numerical method is proposed to calculate drainage time that directly affects time of service interruption. To begin with, governing equations are formulated to embed the delayed drainage effect by the friction loss, and to resolve complicated connection of pipelines, which are derived from the continuity and energy equations. The nonlinear hydraulic equations are solved by using explicit time integration method and the Newton-Raphson method. The developed model is verified by comparing the result with analytical solution. Furthermore, the model's applicability is validated by the examples of pipelines in serial, in parallel, and complex layout. Finally, the model is utilized to suggest an appropriate actions to reduce the deviation of draining time in the C transmission line of the B multi-regional water supply system.
