  • The purpose of this paper is to discover how the use of digital applications can affect students' attitudes toward positive classroom participation and performance in learning a foreign language. Participants of this study were 128 students who took a foreign language class at a high school in central Korea. To find out students' perceptions and attitudes toward the effect of using a digital application for their foreign language study, online questionnaire and focus-group interview were conducted. Our research findings revealed that these students could engage in active language learning and experience learning improvement while studying a foreign language with digital applications. The improvement was possible by creating more interactive activities and quizzes. In addition, the digital application provided students immediate feedback. It gave students and teachers various motivations beyond the traditional 'chalk and talk' format of text-only-classes. This study provides an overview of the usefulness of digital application. In addition, it provides understanding for students' perceptions and involvement using digital application in a foreign language classroom.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the most approriate international marketing strategy of Korean shipping firms for Uruguy Round expected to be agreed among GATT members in 1993. In literature sur-vey, the service marketing philosophy was reviewed to clarify the functions and roles of marketing concept in setting up the international marketing strategies for shipping firms. The marketing concepts are characterized as follows ; 1) production-oriented stage, 2) sales-oriented stage, 3) marketing-oriented stage in the order of historical development. An comparative analysis was car-ried out to examine the differences in marketing strategies among Korean shipping firms and U.K. ship-ping firms.

  • Let $[n]=\{1,2,{\cdots},n\}$, and let $PO_n$ be the partial order-preserving transformation semigroup on [n]. Let $$CPO_n=\{{\alpha}{\in}PO_n:({\forall}x,y{\in}dom{\alpha}),\;|x{\alpha}-y{\alpha}|{\leq}|x-y|\}$$ Then $CPO_n$ is a subsemigroup of $PO_n$. In this paper, we characterize Green's relations and the regularity of elements for $CPO_n$.

  • Colorization is a method using computer to add color to a black and white image automatically. The input is a grayscale image and some representative pixels (RPs). The RPs contain the color information for the image, and it indicates each region's color information. Colorization-based coding is a novel way for lossy image compression, it decodes a color image to get grayscale image and extracts RPs from the image. Because RPs decides the region's color and we also want small data size for image compression, form this viewpoint the paper proposes a way to get better and fewer RPs based on watershed segmentation. According to the segmentation result we also improve the original chrominance blending colorization method to save decode time and get better reconstruct image.

  • State-dependent call admission control (SDCAC) is proposed to make efficient use of scarce wireless resource in a hierarchical wireless network with heterogeneous traffic. With SDCAC, new calls are accepted according to an acceptance probability taking account of not only cell dwell time but also call holding time and system state (i.e., occupied bandwidth). An analytical method is developed to calculate performance measures of interest, e.g., new call blocking probability, forced termination probability, over. all weighted blocking probability. Numerical results with not only stationary but nonstationary traffic loads are presented to show the robustness of SDCAC. It is shown that SDCAC performs much better than the other considered schemes under nonstationary traffic load.

  • This paper introduces a new technique to extract eigenvalues of the gain and phase offsets and to compensate them automatically in transducerless sampling RTU. It discusses in detail the cause of the offsets, describes the principles of gain and phase compensation, establishes the algorithm to extract eigenvalues. The process of using the compensated measurements is also illustrated in the paper. This technique enhances the operational speed, simplifies the operational complexity, and improves the capability of transducerless sampling in RTU.

  • Electroacupuncture therapy was performed in 2 dogs with thoracolumbar disc disease. Case was a 3-year-old female chihuahua with a calcified disc between the 13th thoracic and 1st lumbar vertebrae. Treatment was done by electroacupuncture at San sho yu, Shen yu, Huan tiao and Fu yang-San yin jiao with the current of 0.5~8 volts, 30 Hz for 30 min. She could pass feces and urine 2 days, and walk 9 days after the beginning of the therapy. Case 2 Was a 6-year-old male cocker spaniel with 4 calcified discs(T12-T13, T13-L1, L2-L3 and L6-L7) and spondylosis(lumbosacral junction). Treatment was done by electroacupuncture at Tian ping, Bai hui and Pung kung yu with the current of 2~4 volts, 30 Hz for 20 min. He could pass feces 6 days, urine 8 days, and stand 21 days, after the beginning of the therapy.

  • Primary cyst of the diaphragm is a rather uncommon disease. This is a report of a case of diaphragmatic cyst, located in the tendinous portion of the right diaphragm. The patient had no specific symptoms in the respiratory systems, but suffered from gastrointestinal symptoms [indigestion, epigastralgia, and loss of appetite etc.] for 2 months. Accidentally, on a simple chest x-ray examination, a round homogenous mass density was discovered. Tomography showed a well circumscribed parenchymatous mass. So a coin lesion in the medial segment of the right lower lobe was suspected. A thoracotomy was performed. There were no pathological findings in the lung and pleura. A ping-pong ball sized round mass, which was soft, elastic and fluctuated, was noted in the tendinous portion of the diaphragm. It was enucleated completely without diaphragmatic rupture, and diagnosed as a primary diaphragmatic cyst [fibrous-walled] by the histopathologic examination. Postoperative course was uneventful.

  • The sequence of hydroxypyruvate isomerase gene was obtained in NCBI. In this study, the hydroxypyruvate isomerase gene of Bombyx.mori was identified and annotated with bioinformatics tools. The result was confirmed by RT-PCR, prokaryotic expression, mass spectrographic analysis and sub-cellular localization. The hydroxypyruvate isomerase cDNA comtains a 783bp ORF, and has 4 exons. The deduced protein has 260 amino acid residues with the predicted molecular weight of 29169.30 Da, isoelectric point of 6.10, and contains conserved PRK09997 and Hfi domains. The hydroxypyruvate isomerases of Nasonia vitripennis and Bombyx mori have a high homology. Through RTPCR analysis, we found that this transcript was present in testis, ovary, blood-lymph, fat body, midgut, silk gland and tuba Malpighii. This protein was located in cytoplasm through immunohistochemistry. We submitted the cloned gene under the accession number EU344910. The enzyme has been classified under accession number EC 5.3.1.22.

  • Based on the Reissner mixed variational theorem (RMVT), finite rectangular layer methods (FRLMs) are developed for the three-dimensional (3D) linear buckling analysis of simply-supported, fiber-reinforced composite material (FRCM) and functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates subjected to bi-axial compressive loads. In this work, the material properties of the FGM layers are assumed to obey the power-law distributions of the volume fractions of the constituents through the thickness, and the plate is divided into a number of finite rectangular layers, in which the trigonometric functions and Lagrange polynomials are used to interpolate the in- and out-of-plane variations of the field variables of each individual layer, respectively, and an h-refinement process is adopted to yield the convergent solutions. The accuracy and convergence of the RMVT-based FRLMs with various orders used for expansions of each field variables through the thickness are assessed by comparing their solutions with the exact 3D and accurate two-dimensional ones available in the literature.
