This paper is concerned with thermo-mechanical vibration behavior of flexoelectric/piezoelectric nanobeams under uniform and linear temperature distributions. Flexoelectric/piezoelectric nanobeams have higher natural frequencies compared to conventional piezoelectric ones, especially at lower thicknesses. Both nonlocal and surface effects are considered in the analysis of flexoelectric/piezoelectric nanobeams for the first time. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the governing equations and the related boundary conditions which are solved applying a Galerkin-based solution. Comparison study is also performed to verify the present formulation with those of previous data. Numerical results are presented to investigate the influences of the flexoelectricity, nonlocal parameter, surface elasticity, temperature rise, beam thickness and various boundary conditions on the vibration frequencies of thermally affected flexoelectric/piezoelectric nanobeam.

In order to develope piezoelectric transformer for the ballast of fluorescent lamp, a new shape and electrode pattern of piezoelectric transformer has been investigated in this work. The composition of piezoelectric ceramics was 0.95Pb(Zr$_{0.51}$Ti$_{0.49}$)O$_3$+0.03Pb(Mn$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$+0.02Pb(Sb$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_3$. The sample prepared by this composition system showed the characteristics which has about 1200 of relative dielecric constant, 1100 of the mechanical quality factor, 0.53 of the electromechanical coupling coefficient, 320 pC/N of the piezoelectric constant d$_{33}$, 0.3 % of the dissipation factor. Diameter and thickness of disk-type piezoelectric transformer was 45 mm and 4 mm, respectively. The driving and generating electrode with their gap of 1mm were fabricated on the top surface. But the common electrode was fabricated on the whole bottom surface. The electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part on the top surface ranges from 1.4:1 to 3:1. We investigated the electrical characteristics with the variation of the electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part in the range of load resistance of 100 $\Omega$~70 k$\Omega$. The set-up voltage ratio of this piezoelectric transformer increases with increasing both the electrode surface of driving part and the load resistance. The set-up voltage ratio at no load resistance was more than 60 times. On the other hand, the efficiency decreases with increasing the electrode surface of driving part. In the case of the electrode surface of both 1.4:1 and 2:1, maximum efficiency showed above 97 % at load resistance of 2 k$\Omega$. However, in the case of the electrode surface of 3:1, maximum efficiency showed about 94 % at load resistance of 3 k$\Omega$.>.>.>.

The purpose of this study is to obtain strong bond strength at the interface between piezoelectric substrates and semiconductor thin films to be applied for the manufacture of high-performance acoustic wave semiconductor coupled device. For this purpose, we have compared and examined the effects of different surface treatment methods on hydrophile properties at the surface of the piezoelectric substrates. Moreover, we have observed the effect of microwave and laser on the elimination of water molecules at the interface. As for the piezoelectric substrates, dry method for surface treatment was found to be superior in the control of hydrophilicity of the surface compared to wet method. On the other hand, both microwave and laser were found to be effective in the elimination of water molecules in the interface.

In this work, we discuss simulation of surface acoustic wave device using Comsol Multiphysics. The structure SAW device based on piezoelectric thin film aluminum-nitride (AlN) on silicon was simulated. Some parameters of SAW device such as surface velocity, displacement of piezoelectric thin film were evaluated by software. Many modes and shapes of wave are also discussed in this paper. For evaluation physical parameters of AlN piezoelectric layer, the SAW resonator was modeled and simulation results were also compared with experiment results. we simulated arid evaluated the surface Rayleigh wave of AlN thin film on silicon substrate. Results simulation and experiment showed the surface velocity of AlN thin film was about 5200 m/s and shape of surface wave was also displayed. This paper has also proposed as method to study SAW characteristic of piezoelectric thin film and found out measurement values accurately of film such as stiffness matrix, piezoelectric matrix. These values are very important in calculation and design SAW device or MEMS device based on AlN piezoelectric layer.
Animal-like robots are serving an important role as a linkage between biology and engineering. So, in this paper, we aim to develop a biomimetic microrobot that mimics the locomotion mechanism of a gastropod. This microrobot has 3 DOF (x, y translation and rotation), and has small size, unlimited traveling range, high resolution and low cost. Its movement can be made using propagation wave that is generated by the controllable sinusoidal voltage source and piezoelectric effects. This soft motion that can be generated by propagation wave and piezoelectric mechanism would be useful for the motion on the slippery surface. So we modeled the propagation wave mechanism including piezoelectric effect and friction on the contact surface, and could know the velocity of the microrobot is dependent on the driving frequency, input voltage peak, propagation wavelength and surface friction coefficient. With these results we design the microrobot, and accomplish its fabrication and experimentation. The development of this microrobot shall be aimed to design an autonomous moving actuator like animal. Also it can be used from micromanipulation system technology to biology and medicine.
Two active/passive vibration dampers were designed to control a cantilever beam first mode of vibration. The active element was a piezoelectric polymer, polyvinlidene fluoride (PVDF). The passive damping was provided by the application of a viscoelastic layer on the surface of the steel beam. Two substantially different damper configurations were designed and tested. One damper consisted of a piezoelectric actuator bonded to one face of the beam, with a viscoelastic layer applied to the other surface of the beam. The second one was composed of a layer viscoeastic layer with one surface bonded to the beam, and with other being constrained by nine piezoelectric actuators connected in parallel. A control law based on the sign of the angular velocity of the cantilever beam was implemented to control the beam first mode of vibration. The piezoelectric sensor output was digitally differentiated to obtain the transverse linear velocity, and its sign was used in the control algorith. Two dampers provided the system a damping increase of a factor of four for the first damper and three for the second damper. Both dampers were found to work well at low levels of vibration, suggesting that they can be used effectively to prevent resonant vibrations in flexible structure from initiating and building up.

In this study, an experimental facility has been built to measure the cooling performance of a piezoelectric fan. The facility is composed of a heat source made of $50{\mu}m$ Ni-Cr foil, a piezoelectric fan and a rotary fan for cooling the heat source. For two cases where the foil is vertical or horizontal, the surface temperature on the foil has been measured by an IR camera with and without cooling and the cooling performance of both fans has been analyzed. With cooling by both fans, the rotary fan lowers the surface temperature of the foil as a whole, while the piezoelectric fan lowers the surface temperature at the center of the foil locally. It is also found that the cooling effectiveness of the piezoelectric fan is higher on the horizontal foil than on the vertical foil because the natural convection interferes with the jet from the piezoelectric fan.

In this study, a disk-type piezoelectric transformer was fabricated. Its diameter was 50 mm and thickness was 4.5 mm. The driving and generating electrode with their gap of 1mm were fabricated on the top surface. But the common electrode was fabricated on the whole bottom surface. The electrode surface of driving and generating part on the top surface was divided into 2, 4 and 8 pieces. The electrical characteristics with its electrode variation was measured in the range of load resistance of $100{\Omega}{\sim}10_{K\Omega}$. We investigated quantitively the influence of the set-up voltage ratio.
In current study, surface/interface effects for pull-in voltage and viscous fluid velocity effects on dimensionless natural frequency (DNF) of fluid-conveying piezoelectric nanosensor (FCPENS) subjected to direct electrostatic voltage DC with nonlinear excitation, harmonic force and also viscoelastic foundation (visco-pasternak medium and structural damping) are investigated using Gurtin-Murdoch surface/interface (GMSIT) theory. For this analysis, Hamilton's principles, the assumed mode method combined with Lagrange-Euler's are used for the governing equations and boundary conditions. The effects of surface/interface parameters of FCPENS such as Lame's constants (λI,S, μI,S), residual stress (τ0I,S), piezoelectric constants (e31psk,e32psk) and mass density (ρI,S) are considered for analysis of dimensionless natural frequency respect to viscous fluid velocity u̅f and pull-in voltage V̅DC.

This manuscript tends to investigate influences of nanoscale and surface energy on a static bending and free vibration of piezoelectric perforated nanobeam structural element, for the first time. Nonlocal differential elasticity theory of Eringen is manipulated to depict the long-range atoms interactions, by imposing length scale parameter. Surface energy dominated in nanoscale structure, is included in the proposed model by using Gurtin-Murdoch model. The coupling effect between nonlocal elasticity and surface energy is included in the proposed model. Constitutive and governing equations of nonlocal-surface perforated Euler-Bernoulli nanobeam are derived by Hamilton's principle. The distribution of electric potential for the piezoelectric nanobeam model is assumed to vary as a combination of a cosine and linear variation, which satisfies the Maxwell's equation. The proposed model is solved numerically by using the finite-element method (FEM). The present model is validated by comparing the obtained results with previously published works. The detailed parametric study is presented to examine effects of the number of holes, perforation size, nonlocal parameter, surface energy, boundary conditions, and external electric voltage on the electro-mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric perforated nanobeams. It is found that the effect of surface stresses becomes more significant as the thickness decreases in the range of nanometers. The effect of number of holes becomes significant in the region 0.2 ≤ α ≤ 0.8. The current model can be used in design of perforated nano-electro-mechanical systems (PNEMS).
