  • This paper presents a new sort of multilayer piezoelectric ceramice transformer for switching regulatied power supplies. And this paper presents the study and development of a DC-DC converter with a transformer made from piezoelectric materials. This piezoelectric transformer operate, in the second thickness extensional vibration mode. Its resonant frequency is higher than 1MHz, This piezoelectric transformer was used the PbTiO$_3$ family ceramics because it was a material large anisotropy between electromechanical coupling factors k$_{t}$ and k$_{p}$. The input and output layer consists of two piezoelectric ceramic layer for eleivater of outpur power.wer.

  • This paper presents a new structure for a piezoelectric transformer, operating in thickness extensional vibration mode. Modified $PbTiO_3$ family ceramics were used for the piezoelectric transformer, because it was a material with large anisotropy between elecromechanical coupling factors $K_t$ and $K_p$ . The size of piezoelectric transformer was 20mn long, 20mm wide and 3.1mm thick. The second harmonic resonant frequency of thickness extensional vibration mode was 0.72MHz at loading resistance 100[$\omega$], And Voltage gin of piezoelectric ceramics showed 0.53 at resonant frequency of sencond thickness extensional vibration mode.

과실 경도측정을 위한 비접촉 초음파 변환기 연구 (Study on Non-contact Ultrasonic Transducer for Measurement of Fruit Firmness)

  • This study was conducted to develop an non-contact ultrasonic transducer for measurement of fruit firmness. The center frequency of non-contact ultrasonic transducer was 500 kHz. As an active element of non-contact ultrasonic transducer, the 1-3 piezoelectric composite material was selected. That material has high piezoelectric properties such as electro-mechanical coupling factor, $k_t$ and piezoelectric voltage constant, $d_{33}$ and also that material has low acoustical impedance which enables to matching the acoustical impedances between piezoelectric material and air. As a front matching material between 1-3 piezoelectric composite material and air, various kinds of paper with different thickness were tested. To control the dead-zone of the fabricated non-contact ultrasonic transducer, the backing material composed of epoxy resin and tungsten powder were made and evaluated. The fabricated non-contact ultrasonic transducer for fruit showed that the cneter frequency, bandwidth and beamwidth were approximately 480 kHz, 30 % and 12 mm, respectively. It was concluded that non-contact measurement of apple firmness would be possible by using the fabricated non-contact ultrasonic transducer.

  • In the paper, the novel linear ultrasonic motor for precision position control was designed and fabricated. It was composed of two piezoelectric actuators with longitudinal ultrasonic fluctuations and shaking beam. When two AC electric fields ($Usin{\omega}t$, $Ucos{\omega}t$) were applied in two piezoelectric actuators respectively, the middle part of shaking beam had an elliptical trajectory. According to experimental results, good symmetrical characteristic of two piezoelectric actuators were obtained.

  • Recently, piezoelectric devices, such as ultrasonic surgery, ultrasonic atomizer, and ultrasonic speaker, are analyzed and designed by finite element simulation methods. However, the discrepancy between the design and the experiment results of the device typically occurs due to the inaccuracy of the piezoelectric material properties. To improve the simulation accuracy, the material properties of the PZT ceramics were better refined using parameter estimation method. The material parameters are elastic stiffness cEij and piezoelectric constant eij of PZT ceramics. The impedance curve characteristics for the LTE mode of PZT ceramics were calculated. The mismatch between the simulation and the experimental data were compared and minimized by a least square method. Finally, the simulated impedance data were compared with the experimental data for the various vibration modes of PZT ceramics and the optimized material properties of PZT ceramics were verified. To further verify the accuracy, this method was also applied to piezoelectric PMN-PT single crystals.

  • Recently, a tiny piezoelectric linear motor using a vibration made of the transducer has been invented. The motor consists of a shaft, mobile element, and piezoelectric transducer using a piezoelectric radial mode bimorph disk. The fringe of the bimorph disk is fixed firmly which means this area has no degree of freedom. Therefore, the radial mode of the tranducer transfers to the flexurd mode. The mobile elements move along the shaft by the impact force generated by the flexurd mode of the piezoelectric transducer. The piezoelectric ceramic disks have thickness of 0.1 mm and diameter of 3.5 mm. The elastic disk is introduced between two disks of the ceramic, which has thickness of 0.1 mm and diameter of 3.8 mm. The fringe of the elastic disk is fixed by a brass cylinder which height is 1.2 mm. The Pyrex shaft is used which has diameter of 1 mm and height of 10 mm. The motors are operated at their resonant frequencies. The dynamic properties of the motor have been intensively measured and analyzed according to the applied voltage wave forms at the resonant frequencies. As the sawtooth and rectangular voltage waves are applied, the velocity, the thrust force, and the velocity dependence of the mobile position are measured. The dynamic characteristics are also analyzed within a period of each wave using laser vibrometer. The velocity of the mobile is moderately constant along the shaft. The better dynamic characteristics are obtained in the case of applying the rectangular wave.

Enthalpy - based homogenization procedure for composite piezoelectric modules with integrated electrodes

  • A new enthalpy - based procedure for the homogenization of the electromechanical material parameters of composite piezoelectric modules with integrated electrodes is presented. It is based on a finite element (FE) modeling of the latter's representative volume element (RVE). In contrast to most previously published homogenization approaches that are based on averaged quantities, the presented method uses a direct evaluation of the electromechanical enthalpy. Hence, for the linear orthotropic piezoelectric composite behavior full set of elastic, piezoelectric, and dielectric material parameters, 17 load cases (LC) are used where each load case leads directly to one material parameter. This gives the possibility to elaborate a very strict and easy to program processing. In conjunction with the 17 LC, the enthalpy - based homogenization is particularly suitable for laminated composite piezoelectric modules with integrated electrodes. In this case, the electric load has to be given at the electrodes rather than at the RVE FE model boundaries. The proposed procedure is validated through its comparison to literature available results on a classical 1-3 piezoelectric micro fiber (longitudinally polarized) reinforced composite and a $d_{15}$ shear piezoelectric macro-fiber (transversely polarized) composite module.

  • The piezoelectric material for piezoelectric transformer needs the high electromechanical coupling factor( $k_{p}$) the piezoelectric constant( $d_{33}$) and the mechanical quality factor( $Q_{m}$)in order to obtain high voltage step-up ratio and low temperature rising. In this study the piezoelectric transformers were fabricated using Pb[$Zr_{0.45}$/ $Ti_{0}$48//L $u_{0.02}$(M $n_{1}$3//S $b_{2}$3/)$_{0.05}$$O_3$(PMS-PZT) and Pb[Z $r_{0.25}$/ $Ti_{0.375}$(M $g_{1}$3//N $b_{2}$3/)$_{0.375}$$O_3$+0.5wt%Mn $O_2$(PMN-PZT) ceramics. The piezoelectric properties of PMS-PZT and PMN-PZT were measured. The voltage set-up ratios of the piezoelectric transformers using PMS-PZT and PMN-PZT were the value of 15, 20 respectively under 100$_{KΩ}$ in Rosen type transformer.r.ormer.r.r.r.r.r.r.

Static analysis of a multilayer piezoelectric actuator with bonding layers and electrodes

  • Based on the theory of piezoelasticity, an analytical solution for a typical multilayer piezoelectric composite cantilever is obtained by the Airy function method. The piezoelectric cantilever may consist of any number of layers. Moreover, the material and thickness for different layers may be different. The solution obtained in the present paper is concise and can be easily applied for the bending analysis of multilayer piezoelectric actuators considering the effect of bonding layers and electrodes. At last, a comprehensive parametric study is conducted to show the influence of electromechanical coupling (EMC), the number of piezoelectric layers, the elastic modulus of elastic layer and the thickness ratio on the bending behavior of actuators. Some interesting results for the design of multilayer piezoelectric actuators are presented.

  • In this paper, we have explained electrical characteristics of a step-down Rosen type piezoelectric transformer for AC-adapter. When the electric voltage is applied to the driving piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the longitudinal direction, then output voltage is generated at the generating piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the thickness direction due to the piezoelectric effects. Output voltage and current from a 11-layered and a 13-layered piezoelectric transformer were measured under the various conditions of loads and frequencies. We measured resonant frequency from impedance curve. It was shown from experiments that output voltage has increased and resonant frequency has changed according to various resistor loads. Output current has changed inversely proportional to resistances.
