Prediction of the Upper Limb Motion Based on a Geometrical Muscle Changes for Physical Human Machine Interaction (물리적 인간 기계 상호작용을 위한 근육의 기하학적 형상 변화를 이용한 상지부 움직임 예측)

  • Estimation methods of motion intention from bio-signal present challenges in man machine interaction(MMI) to offer user's command to machine without control of any devices. Measurements of meaningful bio-signals that contain the motion intention and motion estimation methods from bio-signal are important issues for accurate and safe interaction. This paper proposes a novel motion estimation sensor based on a geometrical muscle changes, and a motion estimation method using the sensor. For estimation of the motion, we measure the circumference change of the muscle which is proportional to muscle activation level using a flexible piezoelectric cable (pMAS, piezo muscle activation sensor), designed in band type. The pMAS measures variations of the cable band that originate from circumference changes of muscle bundles. Moreover, we estimate the elbow motion by applying the sensor to upper limb with least square method. The proposed sensor and prediction method are simple to use so that they can be used to motion prediction device and methods in rehabilitation and sports fields.

  • Among various structural health monitoring technologies, impedance-based damage detection has been recognized as a promising tool for diagnosing critical members of civil structures. Since the piezoelectric transducers used in the impedance-based technique should be bonded to the surface of the structure using bonding layers (e.g., epoxy layer), it is hard to maintain the as-built condition of the bonding layers and to reconfigure the devices if needed. This study presents an experimental investigation by using magnetically attached PZT-interface for the impedance-based damage detection in bolted girder connections. Firstly, the principle of the impedance-based damage detection via the PZT-interface device is outlined. Secondly, a PZT-interface attachment method in which permanent magnets are used to replace the conventional bonding layers is proposed. Finally, the use of the magnetic attraction for the PZT-interface is experimentally evaluated via detecting the bolt-loosening events in a bolted girder connection. Also, the sensitivity of impedance signatures obtained from the PZT-interface is analyzed with regard to the interface's material.

  • For next-generation electronic applications, human-machine interface devices have recently been demonstrated such as the wearable computer as well as the electronic skin (e-skin). For integration of those systems, it is essential to develop many kinds of components including displays, energy generators and sensors. In particular, flexible sensing devices to detect some stimuli like strain, pressure, light, temperature, gase and humidity have been investigated for last few decades. Among many condidates, a pressure sensing device based on organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) is one of interesting structure in flexible touch displays, bio-monitoring and e-skin because of their flexibility. In this study, we have investigated a flexible e-skin based on highly sensitive, pressure-responsive OFETs using microstructured ferroelectric gate dielectrics, which simulates both rapidly adapting (RA) and slowly adatping (SA) mechanoreceptors in human skin. In SA-type static pressure, furthermore, we also demonstrate that the FET array can detect thermal stimuli for thermoreception through decoupling of the input signals from simultaneously applied pressure. The microstructured highly crystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) possessing piezoelectric-pyroelectric properties in OFETs allowed monitoring RA- and SA-mode responses in dyanamic and static pressurizing conditions, which enables to apply the e-skin to bio-monitoring of human and robotics.

Characteristics of ZnO Thin Films of FBAR using ALD and RF Magnetron Sputtering (ALD와 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링을 이용한 FBAR 소자의 ZnO 박막증착 및 특성)

  • Piezoelectric ZnO thin films were for the first time formed on SiO$_2$/Si(100) substrate using 2-step deposition, atomic layer deposition(ALD) and RF magnetron sputtering deposition, for film bulk acoustic resonator(FBAR) applications. The ZnO buffer layer by ALD was deposited using alternating diethyl zinc(DEZn)/$H_2O$ exposures and ultrahigh purity argon gas for purging. The ZnO films by 2-step deposition revealed stronger c-axis-preferred orientation and smoother surface than those by the conventional RF sputtering method. The solidly mounted resonator(SMR)-typed FBAR fabricated by using 2-step deposition method revealed higher quality factor of 580 and lower return loss of -17.35dB. Therefore the 2-step deposition method in this study could be applied to the FBAR device fabrication.

  • The problem considered in this paper is that the tip position of a flexible cantilever beam is controlled to follow a command signal, using a pair of piezoelectric actuators at the clamped end. The beam is lightly damped and so the natural transient response is rather long, and also since the sensor and actuator are not collocated, the plant response is non-minimum phase. Two control strategies were investigated. The first involved conventional PID control in which the feedback gains were adjusted to give the fastest closed-loop response to a step input. The second control strategy was based on an internal model control (IMC) architecture. The control filter in the IMC controller was a digital FIR device designed to minimize the expectation of the mean square tracking error. The IMC controller designed fur the beam was found to have very much reduced settling times to a step input compared with those of the PID controller.

  • MLCC is one of the most frequently used component in high-tech device like smart phone. Because of dynamic characteristic of piezoelectric materials which is main ingredient of MLCC, its vibration leads to acoustic noise from pcb. To solve this problem at minimal cost, company has to change only the main noise-generating MLCC to low noise-generating MLCC. To find the main noise source, this study approached to solution from a vibration point of view. From mode shapes of pcb at particular frequencies, two groups can be obtained; MLCCs soldered at where maximum deformation occurs and where anti-phase with respect to the other group appears. When the MLCC belongs to 1st group does not working, amplitude at where maximum deformation occurs decreases compared to when all MLCCs are working. This tendency also appears in noise measurement. This analysis can be put to use in various fields where require noise reduction or noise source identification.

Electrical and mechanical property of ZnO wire using catalyst-free chemical vapor deposition

  • In this paper, we synthesize ZnO wire on Si substrate by catalyst-free thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Each ZnO wire is grew up at different condition such as temperature and O2 flow rate. The Young's modulus of individual ZnO wires were estimated using quasi-static and dynamic measurements, as well as resonance frequency measurements. Using this system, current-voltage characteristics of each ZnO wire structure fabricated on a trench were measured. A new concept of electromechanical device structure combined with the piezoelectric effect of ZnO will be suggested in the end of this paper.

Analysis of Output Power of Unimorph Cantilever Generator Using $0.72Pb(Zr_{0.47}Ti_{0.53})O_3-0.28Pb((Ni_{0.55}Zn_{0.45})_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ Thick Fim for Energy Harvesting Device Applications

  • 에너지 하베스터에 적용 가능한 $0.72Pb(Zr_{0.47}Ti_{0.53})O_3-0.28Pb((Ni_{0.55}Zn_{0.45})_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ (PPZNN) 후막세라믹의 구조적 압전 특성을 조사하였다. $850^{\circ}C$에서 하소를 마친 파우더를 72시간 볼 밀링 처리한 후, 테잎 캐스팅 공정을 이용하여 0.3mm의 두께로 PPZNN 압전 세라믹을 제조하였다. $900^{\circ}C$에서 $1200^{\circ}C$까지 다양한 온도에 소결하여 온도가 증가될수록 정방형 구조로 상전이 거동하는 모습을 보였으며, 특히 $1050^{\circ}C$에서 소결된 PPZNN후막 세라믹은 이차상이 없는 고밀도의 미세구조가 관찰되었다. $d_{33}$=440 pC/N 그리고 kp = 0.46의 우수한 압전 특성을 보였으며, 에너지 변환 성능을 나타내는 $d33{\cdot}g33$ 값은 약 $20439{\times}10^{-15}\;m^2/N$ 로 매우 우수하였다. PPZNN후막 세라믹을 유니몰프 켄틸레버 형태로 제작하여 발전 평가하였을 때 저항이 470 $k{\Omega}$에서 969 ${\mu}W$ (4930 ${\mu}W/cm^3$)로 관찰되었다. PPZNN 후막 압전 세라믹은 향후 압전에너지 하베스터 소재로 다양한 응용분야에 사용될 것으로 예상된다.

  • Surface acoustic wave (SAW) device is very attractive for gas sensor applications because of their small size, low cost, high sensitivity, and good reliability. A dual delay line surface acoustic wave $NO_2$ gas sensors have been designed and fabricated on the $LiTaO_3$ piezoelectric single crystal substrate. The capacitance of the fabricated IDTs was 326.34pF at the frequency of 79.3MHz. The maximum reflection loss of the impedence-matched IDTs was -16.74dB at the frequency of 79.3MHz. The SAW oscillator was constructed and the stable oscillation was obtained by controlling the gain of rf amplifier properly. The oscillation frequency shift of the SAW oscillator to the $NO_2$ gas was 28Hz/ppm.

  • The transducer for multi-directionally movable ultrasonic motor having lambda shaped vibrators has been proposed and designed. The two branches cross at a right angle with each other at the tip. FEM analyses of lambda shaped transducer were carried out to find vibration modes for ultrasonic motor. The lambda shaped transducer has one symmetric mode and two anti-symmetric modes. The symmetric mode generates the normal direction motion of the tip. The lateral and vertical direction motion of the tip are excited by two anti-symmetric modes. The normal and lateral direction motions made an lateral elliptic trajectory. And the normal and vertical direction motions made an vertical elliptic trajectory normal to previous one. The transducer with 1 mm in thickness and 25 mm in length has been fabricated and evaluated. The resonance frequencies of the transducer was 32 kHz and 103 kHz. The tangential and vertical vibration displacement of the transducer having the lateral elliptic trajectory were $1.5{\mu}m\;and\;1.1{\mu}m$, respectively at the driving voltage of 100 Vpp and frequency of 32 kHz and 103 kHz. And the tangential and vertical vibration displacement of the transducer having the vertical elliptic trajectory were $0.4{\mu}m\;and\;0.2{\mu}m$, respectively at the same driving condition.
