  • We present several biosignal measurement results and analysis algorithms or the visual stimulus from International Affective Picture System. Since human body is nonlinear dynamic system, we investigated both linear and nonlinear methods. We found that the chaos was diminished when unpleasant picture is presented relative to pleasant picture, and the alpha wave of EEG was slightly augmented in pleasant picture, but was not convincing result. These can be used as the parameter or the measurement of human sensibility.

  • The proposed Novel OverDriving Technology with Optimum Look-up-Table(LUT)is suggested to be a better solution to reducing the occurrence of overshooting caused by the traditional overdriving method implemented to normally liquid crystal (VA mode). Chunghwa Picture Tubes, LTD. (CPT) has successfully implement this tech into 20 inch TFTLCD TV module at the present day. The proposed technology can speed up gray-to-gray response time of LCD less than one half of frame time. On the side, Optimum LUT construction apply the compression scheme to record total actual grayscale transfer characteristics instead of applying the normal spread method such as linear / non-linear interpolation. The memory space is been reduced and the distortion of the image quality is lesser.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences between mothers' and grand mothers' picture book reading behavior with children of ages 2 and 4. Methods: Participants were twenty 2 year olds and their mothers/grandmothers as well as twenty 4 year olds and their mothers/grandmothers. Forty pairs of children/mothers and children/grandmothers, respectively, were videotaped as they shared reading a picture book together. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, and two-way ANOVA test. Results: Results indicated that mothers' and grandmothers' picture book reading behaviors were significantly different in verbal behavior. Mothers performed more explanation and questioning, while grandmothers performed more limitation, directing, and correcting. As far as non-verbal behavior is concerned, mothers used more physicalgestures, pointing, descriptive gestures, and imitative gestures, whereas grandmothers requested certain actions. Conclusion/Implications: These findings have implications for the importance of the mothers'/grandmothers' roles in shared picture book reading with the child.

  • This study investigated the effectiveness of mathematical activities based on picture books for the development of children's problem-solving performance. Subjects were 72 children divided in two groups of 36 each; one group had mathematical activities based on picture books and the other group had of pencil-and-paper tasks. The problem-solving performance was measured in terms of the test by Ward(1993) with a few modification for pretest and posttest. Mathematical activities were performed 12 times over a 6 week period. The data was analyzed by Analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA). The group taught by picture books significantly improved mathematical problem-solving performance.

  • Participants in this study of the effect of story making activity on the language expression and creativity of young children were all forty 5-year-old children in a child-care facility. The experimental group read the fantasy picture book and engaged in story making activity; the control group read the same fantasy picture books the experimental group but didn't have any story making activity. Experimental treatments were given twice a week for 6 weeks. Data were analyzed by MANCOVA using scores of the pre-test as covariance. Differences were found between experimental and control groups in language expression and creativity showing that story making activity using the fantasy picture book was more effective than just reading without story making activity.

  • This study investigated the effects of an after-school picture-book program on the happiness and socio-emotional ability levels of first graders. The subjects consisted of 44 elementary school first graders; of these, 22 formed the experimental and 22 formed the control group. A detailed analysis of both happiness and socio-emotional ability levels was undertaken to determine the homogeneity of the two groups. A broad variety of activities using 12 picture-books were applied to the experimental group for twelve-week periods. The results of this study were as follows; the after-school program using picture books was effective in strengthening children's levels of both happiness and socio-emotional ability.

  • Color sequential display is a well know technology. Hower, due to the slow response time of LC,the CSD has not been used in LCD. We have developed a unique LC color display, which can improve LC response time, improve the driving system, improve the gamma drive issue and increase the color gamut to more than NTSC120%.It also can get very low power consumption merit.

  • The purpose of this analysis is to investigate the effect of leading characters in picture books on self concept in children. For this study, we selected a total of 55 picture books, all of which were best sellers in four internet book stores. The method used for the study was based on content analysis. The results of this analysis were as follows: First, the gender of leading characters was male more often than female, and the majority of picture books were creative story books and translation books. Second, subordinate parts related to the self-concept were most frequently found in the social self-concept. Social self-concept was positively expressed through the relationship between friend and family characters in story books. Cognitive self-concept was the least. Third, when the frequency of positive and negative expressions in picture books was analyzed, the social self-concept was found to be positively expressed in the subordinate parts of relationships between friends and family. The social self-concept was negatively expressed, however, in the subordinate parts of relationship between non-significant others, and the emotional self-concept was also negatively expressed in the subordinate parts of the emotional recognition and expression. In summary. instances of cognitive self-concept and positive expression were found to be more significant than negative ones.

  • This study investigates the effectiveness of fashion coordination presentation formats when people buy apparel products online. This study conducted an online survey with 595 females who shopped online at the simulated website by a single apparel plan picture (n=189), coordination plane picture (n=187), and 3-D coordination image (n=216). For data analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, MANCOVA, ANOVA, Duncan test, correlation analysis, and chi-square are used. The results of this study are: First, the hedonic shopping value was significantly the highest when respondents shopped at a 3-D coordination image shopping mall, the next highest-scored presentation type was the coordination plane picture, and the case of presenting only the single apparel picture was significantly the lowest. The utilitarian shopping value and information shopping value were higher in the coordination plane picture and the 3-D coordination image shopping mall than the single apparel picture. Second, transactions satisfaction was high when respondents shopped at a 3-D coordination image, coordination plane image, and single apparel image in decreasing order.

  • This article chronicles the development of picture book reviews in Korea by analyzing the development of public libraries, emergence of magazines that feature reviews of picture books, and characteristics of reviewers. During the 1980s, a new wave of specialized book review magazines emerged. 1990s witnessed the proliferation of civic organizations that cater to children's books and promotion of reading. During the first half of 2000's, a number of daily newspapers added book sections and literature journals began actively producing picture book reviews. In the second half of the 2000's, the number of public libraries in Korea increased significantly and librarians have emerged as picture book reviewers.
