This study was conducted to find out the relationship between dental anxiety and self-efficacy, physical and psychological condition and expected self-efficacy. The objective of this study was also to provide foundation for appropriate dental hygiene intervention model for scaling. In this study, anxiety reactions were measured among 178 patients, who made appointment with dental hygienists for scaling between May and July, 2009. The analysis was done in SPSS 12.0 statistical program which confirmed Cranach's alpha value. Technical statistics, t-test and One-way ANOVA, correlation and regression were also used. The result of the study is following: While dental hygienist conducts scaling, the dental anxiety was each measured in following categories: Thus male, age between 40 and 50, single, high school graduated and unemployed were measured highest dental anxiety among various groups. Dental Fear Scale demonstrated the validity of relationship between dental anxiety and self efficacy. The correlation was equated as r=-.409(p<0.01). In the other words, the higher self efficacy, the lower dental anxiety. The relationship between dental anxiety and physical and physiological condition was relevant. Physical condition was r=-.229(p<0.01) And then, the psychological condition was r=-.299(p<0.01). Thus, better physical and physiological condition results in less dental anxiety. The relationship between expected Self-efficacy and dental anxiety is also valid. The dental anxiety after performance accomplishment is r=-.239(p<0.01), after vicarious experience is r=-.195(p<0.01), after verbal persuasion is r=-.152(p<0.05), after recognition of physiological state is r=-.410(p<0.01). In conclusion, sex, age, marital status, education level, employment, physical condition, physiological condition are all relevant to dental anxiety(F=8.834). Both independent and dependent variables p<.05 have 37.5% persuasiveness.
This report describes an inhibitory effect of Tongku-tang(TKT) on mast cell-mediated immediate-type allergic reactions. TKT is an Oriental herbal prescription, which has been successfully applied for the treatment of allergic disorders, mainly skin anaphylactic diseases in eastern medicine. TKT has concentration-dependently inhibited the ear swelling response induced by intradermal injection of non-specific mast cell degranulator compound 48/80 in mice. TKT also inhibited mast cell-dependent passive cutaneous anaphylaxis activated by dinitrophenyl (DNP)-IgE antibody in rats. I studied the effect of TKT on the histamine and β-hexosaminase release from the rat peritoneal mast cells by compound 48/80. TKT did not inhibit significantly the histamine and β-hexosaminase release from the rat peritoneal mast cells by compound 48/80. However, TKT inhibited both TNF-α and IL-1β secretion induced by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate and A23187 respectively. These results provide evidence that TKT may be beneficial in the treatment of immediate-type allergic reaction.
Gunjung-tang(GJT) has been reported at Shanghanlun(傷寒論), which has been used for the treatment of general weakness, digestive organ disease and the treatment of allergic disorders in clinical medicine. However, its effect in experimental models remains unknown. In a rat and mouse model, the role of GJT was examined in mast cell-dependent allergic reactions and secretion of inflammatory cytokines. GJT inhibited anti-dinitrophenyl IgE antibody-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction by Intraperitoneal pretreatment. GJT inhibited both IL-1β and TNF-α secretion on egg albumin induced allergic tissues and compound 48/80 induced thymus. Furthermore, GJT enhanced Band T lymphocytes proliferation. Our findings provide evidence that GJT inhibits the IgE-dependent allergic reactions and inflammatory cytokines secretion, and enhanced immune response.
Using empirical data of fish performance and physiological limits as well as physical stimuli and environmental data, a cod-end selectivity model based on a chaotic behavior model using the psycho-hydraulic wheel and neural-network approach was established to predict fish escape or herding responses in trawl and cod-end designs. Fish responses in the cod-end were categorized as escape or herding reactions based on their relative positions and reactions to the net wall. Fish movements were regulated by three factors: escape time, a visual looming effect, and an index of body girth-mesh size. The model was applied to haddock in a North Sea bottom trawl including frequencies of movement components, swimming speed, angular velocity, distance to net wall, and the caught-fish ratio; simulation results were similar to field observations. The ratio of retained fish in the cod-end was limited to 37-95% by optomotor coefficient values of 0.3-1.0 and to 13-67% by looming coefficient values of 0.1-1.0. The selectivity curves generated by this model were sensitive to changes in mesh size, towing speed, mesh type, and mesh shape.
With a view of to providing basic data for designing male's and female's clothes, heslthy males and females(five each) were exposed to three different environmental temperature( $20{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$$28{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$,$32{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ in the nude. Their adaptation of skin temperature, physilogical responses, oral temperature, blood pressure, pulse rates) and psychological reactions (thermal, comfort and perceptive sweat sensations) were analyzed to be as follows; The subjects's skin temperature had a similar look of adaptation, but the stability of skin temperature differed at the $20{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$and at the $28{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ Males had higher skin temperatures at three environmental temperatures, but females showed a higher temperature change at the $20{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ and$28{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ and males at the $32{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ Thus females were more resistant to the cold, while male were more resistant to the heat. As environmental temperature increased, oral temperature and pulse rates also grew up. Females turned higher in oral temperature and lower in blood pressure, but both sexes had a normal range of physiological reactions. Even though three environmental temperature were same changes in thermal sensation at and in perceptive sweat sensation at $28{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$and in perceptive sweat sensation at$32{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ the two sexes had the same response in comfort sensation at the three environmental temperature.
Sogunjung-tang(SGJT) has been used for the treatment of general weakness, digestive organ disease and so on. This study was carried out for the purpose of knowing the inhibitory effect on the Type I hypersensitivity and Inflammatory reactions of SGJT. The reasults were obtained as follows: SGJT(0.1, 0.5, 1, 2mg/g) concentration of dependently inhibited compound48/80 induced anaphylaxis reaction in mice. SGJT(2mg/g) also inhibited permeability of evans blue into peritoneal cavity in mice. SGJT reduced IgE, CRP, WBC and Platelets on egg albumin induced hypersensitivity. but serum NO was grown. According to above results, SGJT may be beneficial in the type I hypersensitivity and Inflammatory reactions by inhibition of histamine release from mast cells.
This study was conducted to examine the comfortability of wearing pantyhose in summer. To satisfy this purpose. 4 types of pantyhose were chosen from the market: a Mono type(M), a Wooly type(W), and two Support types(Sl, S2), were chosen. After the performances of samples were measured, these were worn by 8 healthy adult women. Under the summer field environment, psychological comfort ability was examined through the 5 steps of SD method. Physiological comfort ability was examined by measuring the body reactions(clothing pressure, skin temperature, total body weight loss, rectal temperature, pulse rates, and blood pressure), under the artificial environment($28.5{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, $82{\pm}3%$). The results of this examination were as follows : The order of comfortability which people felt in the field was W>M>S1>S2. The number of items which showed the highest correlation with comfort ability decreased and the correlation was lowered on the whole as time went by. There was positive high correlation between the performances of samples and comfort ability in compressibility, air permeability, water vapor permeability, while a negative high correlation in thickness, weight, compressional resiliency, strain (course) and moisture regain. The mean skin temperature was in the comfort zone, and rectal temperature, pulse rates, blood pressure were mostly in the normal range. Also it was showed that the correlation between the performance of samples and body reactions, except total body weight loss, was low.
Silicon has become of increasing importance as the basic element of many high-technology products. Its synthesis is very difficult requiring high temperature solid-state reactions (> $1000^{\circ}C$) or lower temperature methods ($100-200^{\circ}C$) involving hydrothermal and solvothermal reactions under extreme pH conditions. In nature, on the other hand, a wide range of living organisms have collectively evolved the means of biosilicification at the astounding rate of gigatons/year. This is impressive because biosilicification in these organisms occurs under mild physiological conditions. Marine sponges possess the ability to sequester soluble silicon sources from their environments and assemble them into intricate 3D architecture. The advent of molecular biology has recently made it possible to glean molecular information about biosilicification from these systems and it turned out that enzyme silicatein is the core of biosilicification. In this review, biosilicification regulated by silicatein and its mechanism are described. Also, production of silicatein through recombinant technology and several applications of recombinant silicatein are described including immobilization of silicatein, formation of Au or Ag nanoparticles on nanowires, nanolithography approaches, core-shell materials, encapsulation, bone replacement materials, and microstructured optical fibers.

Due to rapid urbanization and population growth, it has become crucial to analyze the various volumes and characteristics of pedestrian pathways to understand the capacity and level of service (LOS) for pathways to promote a better walking environment. Different indicators have been developed to measure pedestrian volume. The pedestrian level of service (PLOS), tailored to analyze pedestrian pathways based on the concept of the LOS in transportation in the Highway Capacity Manual, has been widely used. PLOS is a measurement concept used to assess the quality of pedestrian facilities, from grade A (best condition) to grade F (worst condition), based on the flow rate, average speed, occupied space, and other parameters. Since the original PLOS approach has been criticized for producing idealistic results, several modified versions of PLOS have also been developed. One of these modified versions is perceived PLOS, which measures the LOS for pathways by considering pedestrians' awareness levels. However, this method relies on survey-based measurements, making it difficult to continuously deploy the technique to all the pathways. To measure PLOS more quantitatively and continuously, researchers have adopted computer vision technologies to automatically assess pedestrian flows and PLOS from CCTV videos. However, there are drawbacks even with this method because CCTVs cannot be installed everywhere, e.g., in alleyways. Recently, a technique to monitor bio-signals, such as electrodermal activity (EDA), through wearable sensors that can measure physiological responses to external stimuli (e.g., when another pedestrian passes), has gained popularity. It has the potential to continuously measure perceived PLOS. In their previous experiment, the authors of this study found that there were many significant EDA responses in crowded places when other pedestrians acting as external stimuli passed by. Therefore, we hypothesized that the EDA responses would be significantly higher in places where relatively more dynamic objects pass, i.e., in crowded areas with low PLOS levels (e.g., level F). To this end, the authors conducted an experiment to confirm the validity of EDA in inferring the perceived PLOS. The EDA of the subjects was measured and analyzed while watching both the real-world and virtually created videos with different pedestrian volumes in a laboratory environment. The results showed the possibility of inferring the amount of pedestrian volume on the pathways by measuring the physiological reactions of pedestrians. Through further validation, the research outcome is expected to be used for EDA-based continuous measurement of perceived PLOS at the alley level, which will facilitate modifying the existing walking environments, e.g., constructing pathways with appropriate effective width based on pedestrian volume. Future research will examine the validity of the integrated use of EDA and acceleration signals to increase the accuracy of inferring the perceived PLOS by capturing both physiological and behavioral reactions when walking in a crowded area.
