The risk of periodontal disease according to BMI by age was closely related to obesity ranged form 35 to 59 yeard old. The increased waist circumference and those who were in 35 to 59 and over 60 years old had a significant association with the periodontal disease risk. Conclusions : Obesity and periodontal disease are closely related factors. Those aged from 35 to 59 are the high risk groups of potential obesity and periodontal disease. It is very important to control well-balanced nutrition and physical activity that can prevent the progression of periodontal disease.

Safety and health education in technical high schools is especially important because the great majority of the students engage in the industrial field after graduation. But there are few reports on the state. of safety and health education in technical high schools in Korea. The aims of this study were to identify the problems of the present safety and health education in technical high schools in Korea and to propose the ways of improving health and safety education. To conduct this study, the textbooks for health and safety related courses, i.e., Introduction to Industry, Gyoryun(dril), and Physical Education, were reviewed. A questionnaire was mailed to the teachers of Introduction to Industry, Gyoryun, Physical Education, and school nurses in 188 technical high schools and the teachers of Gyoryun, Physical Education, and school nurses in 376 general high schools in November 1997. The final response rates were 42.0% for teachers of Introduction to Industry, 62.9% for teachers of Gyoryun, 47.9% for teachers of Physical Education, and 33.0% for school nurses. Also, a survey by self-administered questionnaire on the knowledge, attitude, and practice about safety and health was conducted from May through July 1998 among 44 employees graduated from technical high schools and 44 employees graduated from general high schools since 1995. The analysis of the textbooks showed that the contents of the ‘Industrial Safety and Environment’ section in Introduction to Industry were rather for safety managers than industrial workers and the contents about occupational hygiene and health were scanty. The majority of ‘Accident and Disaster’ and ‘Hazardous Substances’ section in Gyoryun overlapped with those in Introduction to Industry and several mistakes about health related descriptions were found. Some contents of Physical Education. ‘Mental Health’. ‘Emergency Care’. ‘Communicable Disease’, ‘Noncommunicable Disease’, and ‘Food Hygiene’ overlapped with those of Gyoryun. The teachers lectured safety and health related sections of textbook completely in 84.8% for Introduction to Industry, 62.1% for Gyoryun, 20.8% for Physical Education and the most frequent reason for the incomplete education was shortage of time.

Methods: This study was a volunteer sample of 612 persons, 60 years and above, who were living at the 2 farming villages, in 2005 July. This instruments were analyzed using frequency analysis and descriptive statistics, multiple regression analysis. Results: The distribution of stages of self-change of the research object person showed that the pre-contemplation stage was most with 57.2%, and the contemplation stage : 8.1%, the preparation stage : 2.2%, the action stage : 22.5%, the maintenance stage : 10.0%. The person who having good physical function state and advanced stages of self-change of exercise were higher in the ratio of the educational level and the income level. Factors for physical function were effected by the aging and the woman negatively. Conclusion: Physical function scores were highly correlated with stages of self-change for exercise. Objectives: This study was conducted to develop a model describing the interaction between lifestyle, job, and postural factors and parts of the upper extremities in shipyard workers. Methods: A questionnaire survey was given to 2,140 workers at a shipyard in Ulsan City. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the subjects' general characteristics, lifestyle, tenure, physical burden, job control, posture and musculoskeletal symptoms. The overall relationship between variables was analyzed by a structural equation model (SEM). Results: The positive rate of upper extremity musculoskeletal symptoms increased in employees who worked longer hours, had severe physical burden, and did not have any control over their job. Work with a more frequent unstable posture and for longer hours was also associated with an increased positive rate of musculoskeletal symptoms. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that unstable posture and physical burden were closely related to the positive rate of musculoskeletal symptoms after controlling for age, smoking, drinking, exercise, tenure, and job control. In SEM analysis, work-related musculoskeletal disease was influenced directly and indirectly by physical and job stress factors, lifestyle, age, and tenure (p < 0.05). The strongest correlations were found between physical factors and work-related musculoskeletal disease. Conclusion: The model in this study provides a better approximation of the complexity of the actual relationship between risk factors and work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Among the variables evaluated in this study, physical factors (work posture) had the strongest association with musculoskeletal disorders.
