An Introduction of Information Design for Web Information Services (웹 환경의 정보서비스를 위한 인포메이션 디자인)

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce and propose the vision of information design for the user-friendliness and accessibility for web-based information services. Information design, which focuses more narrowly on the information itself in one or more information units, and may encompass the information aspects of elements of design(labels, knobs, and the physical interface), information content design, page design, Web site design, typography decisions, and so forth. Information design is an alternative to all traditional approaches to information (science, philosophy, and others). Information is designed according to consciously chosen principles and criteria. rather than by following habitual patterns of a traditional profession.

A Human Action Recognition Scheme in Temporal Spatial Data for Intelligent Web Browser

  • This paper proposes a human action recognition scheme for Intelligent Web Browser. Based on the principle that a human action can be defined as a combination of multiple articulation movements, the inference of stochastic grammars is applied to recognize each action. Human actions in 3 dimensional (3D) world coordinate are measured, quantized and made into two sets of 4-chain-code for xy and zy projection planes, consequently they are appropriate for applying the stochastic grammar inference method. We confirm this method by experiments, that various physical actions can be classified correctly against a set of real world 3D temporal data. The result revealed a comparatively successful achievement of $93.8\%$ recognition rate through the experiments of 8 movements of human head and $84.9\%$ recognition rate of 60 movements of human upper body. We expect that this scheme can be used for human-machine interaction commands in a web browser.

The Use of Persona Based Scenario Method for the Development of Web Board Game for the Pre-elderly

  • This study defined the pre-elderly as middle age people from 50 to 59. Because it is difficult to produce a design to satisfy the pre-elderly without deeply understanding them, their financial and physical characteristics and persona-based scenario method was studied. An experimental study about persona based scenario method was conducted, and as a result, the types of personas found were as follows: 1) Users enjoy the same games online and offline. 2) Users enjoy playing alone on the computer. 3) Users prefer games that end quickly with win or loss. Writing the situation scenario for each type, the pre-elderly's problems and needs occurring while they play web board games were obtained. The obtained user requests were as follows: users would like the level of difficulty to be simpler in the game of baduk; users wanted unlimited credit and refrainment from using English words in go-Stop; and there were simple comments about game screen design.

  • Virtual manufacturing system is integrated computer model that represents the precise and whole structure of manufacturing system and simulates its physical and logical behavior in operation.[1] A virtual machine is computer model that represents a CNC machine tool and one of core elements of virtual manufacturing system. In this paper, it is emphasized that a virtual machine must be web-based system for serving information to all attendants in a real machine tool without the restriction of time or location, and then in the fault diagnosis, one of important modules of a virtual machine, the methods of both using the controller signal and web-based expert system are proposed.

TCAD Based Power Semiconductor Device e-Learning Tool

  • An interactive web-based teaching tool for a power semiconductor course at the University of Central Florida is presented in this paper. A novel approach is introduced using Technology Aided Design Tools (TCAD) to generate time-lapsed 2D semiconductor device cross-section embedded in a webpage using $Adobe^{(R)}$ Flash (web design tool) platform to create interactive movies that demonstrate complex device physical phenomenon. Students can step through the interactive movies forward, backward, pausing, or looping. Each step represents a giving bias condition. Current-voltage plots are represented along with the semiconductor device and a visual point is placed on the IV curve to indicate the current bias conditions. The changes are then reflected in the 2D cross-section movie area and the IV plot. This tool was implemented in a classroom setting to augment the lectures or for discovery learning.

Physical Activity and Suicidal thoughts in Male and Female Adolescents (남녀 청소년의 신체활동과 자살 생각)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of physical activity on suicidal ideation according to gender in South Korean adolescents. Methods: This study is designed as a cross-sectional study. Using the statistics from the 12th (2016) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, hierarchical logistic regression analysis was conducted. The study sample comprised 62,558 middle and high school students aged primarily 12 to 17. Results: The rate of engaging in physical activity more than three times a week was 39.6% for boys and 28.8% for girls and the rate of suicide ideation was 9.35% for boys and 14.9% for girls. Male students were 1.42 times more likely to commit suicide when they did not engage in physical activity than when they do more than three times a week but it was found to have no significant effect on female students. Conclusion: Physical activity should be encouraged in the physical education curriculum and the school health area to reduce suicidal ideation in adolescents. Differentiated interventions are required according to gender. It is suggested that intervention programs involving physical activity be implemented more actively for male students and intervention programs centering on obesity and smoking prevention be implemented for female students.

  • The enlarge the range of internet users require user centered design method what understanding of cognitive faculties about users by different age groups. This study aims at analyzing cognitive faculties about visual information on web interface by different age groups, presenting visual perception cognitive process model as an evaluation model and proposing an effective web interface design guideline, On the basis of analyzing cognitive faculties verified what each detail property of visual perception cognitive process model as form, color, space, movement and physiological, physical cognitive faculties had have individual cognitive faculties. As the result visual perception cognitive process model suggested in this study can be used as an evaluation model of web interface and users' cognitive faculties analyzed in visual perception measurement by different age groups can be applied as a web interface design guideline. In addition, this study has a meaning in that it makes a chance to extend a web designer's roles and establish a direction of future research by usability of different age groups.

An Empirical Study on Critical Success Factors in Implementing the Web-Based Distance Learning System : In Case of Public Organization. (사이버교육 효과의 영향요인에 관한 실증적 연구: 공공조직을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate critical success factors for effective implementation of web-based distance learning system. First of all, four critical success factors are theoretically derived from reviewing previous research. They are: (1) learner-related factor including the variables such as teaming ability, learning attitude, and attending motivation, (2) environmental factor including the variables of physical and mental support for learners, (3) instructional design factor represented by one variable, the degree of appropriateness of learning contents, and (4) the factor concerning the level of self-directed learning readiness embracing the variables such as curiosity for learning, openness towards challenge of learning and affection for learning. Subsequently, the relationships between these four critical success factors and the degree of learning satisfaction are empirically investigated. The data for empirical analysis of the research are collected from 1,020 respondents who have already passed the web-based distance learning courses which have been implemented in Information and Communication Officials Training Institute. Out of 1,020 responded questionnaires, 875 data were available for statistical analyses. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the most important factor for successful implementation of the web-based distance learning system is shown to be the instructional design factor, and in the next place, the self-directed learning readiness factor, the environmental factor and the learner-related one in sequence. Secondly, additional analysis of the variables included in the instructional design factor shows that availability of practical information and knowledge is the most influencing variable, and next, interesting composition of contents, reasonable learning amount, optimal level of instruction, and understandable explanation are significantly important in the descending order. Lastly, among learning motivators, strong intention of acquiring business knowledges and skills is found to be the most important satisfier in the web-based distance learning. The theoretical contribution of this study is to derive a comprehensive model of critical success factors for implementing the web-based distance learning system. And, the practical implication of this study is to propose efficient and effective guidelines for developing and operating the web-based distance learning system in the various kinds of organizations.

A Meta-Analysis on the Effects of Academic Achievement in Web-Based Instruction (웹 기반 교수-학습이 학업성취에 미치는 영향에 대한 메타 분석)

  • The purpose of this study has been found to be effective using web-based instruction than traditional teaching-learning method on academic achievement applying the meta-analysis method. The results of this study were as follows: First, The 85% subject of analysis of web-based instruction selected in this study turned out to be clear effective than traditional teaching-learning method in academic achievement of students. Second, Web-based instruction is more effective for academic achievement of elementary school students and university students than for middle school students and high school students relatively. Third, Web-based instruction is a most effective method in social subject and physical education but less effective in language subject. The overall results of this study concluded more powerful and big decisions which have integrated each different effects on academic achievement of studies web-based instruction method applying meta-analysis. Through this study, make better results were obtained and suggested the base line data and direction for follow up studies.

  • In this paper the advantage of web technology applied to Rapid Prototyping is discussed. Two fabrication processes are chosen to be web-enabled. One, a post-process of FDM is developed to provide translucent plastic parts made of medical grade ABS material. The other, a system to fabricate laser machined Light Guide Panel is developed. In order to show the timesaving characteristics of the web-based tools, two websites are implemented (http://nano.gsnu.ac.kr/fdm & http://nano.gsnu.ac.kr/laser). The 3-tier architecture is applied for the Internet communication between designers and manufacturing sites, The integrated design tools and physical manufacturing processes enable designers to submit a new design and to receive the fabricated parts in an expedited manner. Example parts are fabricated using the web-based system to prove the concept of the web-based design and Rapid Prototyping.
