  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the neurophysiological mechanisms, assessment of muscle spasm and treatments that could apply to clinical field. Spasm is a painful pattern of contraction of muscle caused by chronic or acute trauma, excessive tension, or organic disorders. Aside from pain, muscle spasm creates shortenning of muscles and limits motion. Untreated spasm and protective immobility due to pain lead to decreased local blood flow in the muscles and result in a vicious cycle of muscle spasm and paul. The assessment of muscle spasm involve muscle tone assessment, tissue compliance, and joint ROM. Each of these aessessments utilize as a part of the patient's condition Clinical managements involve drug management and physical therapy. Expecially, physical therapy is one of the most important techniques to reduce muscle spasm. Physical therapy includes applying heat and cold, electrical stimulation, massage, and traction. This investigation should entourage phisical therapists to experiment further with various techniques to reduce muscle spasm.

The data were collected from July 1, to August 31, 2000 and analyzed by ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficients. The summarized result are as follows: 1. The job satisfaction score of physical therapists showed the highest of the pride of patient treatment and total mean score was 2.96. 2. Those who were in the range of 26 to 30 years of age showed the strongest desire to leave the hospital 3. There were 68.8% in male. 47.6% in female who hoped to turnover intention. 4. There were significant difference between those who want to leave and those who want remain in relation patient number, work hospital work years. 5. There were no significant difference between those who want to turnover intention and those who want remain in relation patient number and work years. 6. The major reason for job satisfaction were work time and work areas.

  • Purpose: This research was to develop a module for problem-based learning(PBL) and to enhance the problem-solving abilities of physical therapy students in a neurological physical therapy course and to evaluate the effects of the module using quantitative and qualitative data. Methods: The PBL module was applied to 55 third-year physical therapy students who participated in a neurological physical therapy course at S university in Seoul. Anonymous self-report questionnaires and reflection journals were collected, and the data were analyzed. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the academic achievements of the students who participated in the first PBL class improved compared to the academic achievements of the students who had participated in the same class in the previous semester. Second, the students who participated in the PBL class evaluated the PBL as a very effective learning method for developing clinical practical ability. Third, the students of the PBL class showed increased cooperation and communication abilities between team members. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that, if PBL class case studies and various types of teaching and learning methods appropriate for theoretical and practical fields are continuously studied, then it is expected that teaching models will be developed that can develop flexibility and creativity among preliminary physical therapists in a rapidly changing medical environment.

  • In this study, Systematic review and meta-analysis using the correlation coefficients was carried out to integrate precedent studies on factors affecting domestic occupational therapists' job stress. It aims at providing basic information resources of preventing and reducing stress of occupational therapists and effective counter-measurement to improve quality of occupational therapy and to establish efficient human resource management policy. Systematic review and meta-analysis were performed on eight thesis proven relevant to selection criteria in order to figure out correlation coefficients value by total, and factors correlation coefficients value. Also homogeneity test and publication bias test was performed too. The total correlation coefficients value of occupational therapists was .30 which was statistically significant. As to job stress factors, the organization related factor showed the highest correlation of coefficiency, followed by factors other than the organization related, physical environment, job related factor and personal factor. This research result can be used as a reference to prevent and reduce job stress of occupational therapists and to develop an effective measurement scheme.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of physical therapist's vocational consciousness and emotional labor on organizational performance. The subjects of this study are physical therapists working in a total of 8 hospitals in Seoul from May 25, 2019 to June 30, 2019: 2 private hospitals, 2 semi-general hospitals, 2 general hospitals, and 2 university hospitals. It was conducted with 137 people. For the analysis, the SPSS program was used, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were performed, and a regression analysis was performed on the causal relationship between variables. First, as a result of examining the effect of the physical therapist's vocational consciousness on organizational performance, the higher the vocational consciousness factor, the higher the organizational performance, which means that it has a positive and significant effect on organizational performance. Second, as a result of examining the effect of physical therapist's emotional labor on organizational performance, it was found that the surface behavior factor, a sub-factor of emotional labor, had an effect on organizational performance. On the other hand, the factors of inner behavior were found to have no significant effect on organizational performance. This means that the higher the vocational consciousness perceived by the physical therapist, the higher the organizational performance, and the higher the surface behavior of emotional labor, the lower the organizational performance. This study is considered to be the basic data for preparing a plan to improve the organizational performance of physical therapists.

  • The Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) is an internationally widely used outcome measure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the structural properties of the Korean version of GMFM using the Rasch Model, with regard to scoring within rehabilitation centers in Korea. GMFM data for 206 children with cerebral palsy were collected from 11 outpatient rehabilitation facilities by 29 pediatric therapists. The Winsteps software was used to refine the rating scale. This study suggests that the scoring categories of the Korean version of the GMFM should be collapsed from 0 (subject does not initiate task), 1 (subject initiates task), 2 (subject partially completes task), 3 (subject completes task) to 0 (subject does not initiate task), 1 (subject initiates or partially completes task), 2 (subject completes task) for better accuracy in estimating the gross motor function of children with cerebral palsy.
