  • New grid connected PV(Photovoltaic) system of high-frequency link with soft-switching is proposed to solve problems related to the loss of transformer and switch. The operation of Proposed system using the soft switching that consists of high frequency transformer is confirmed by computer simulation and experiment. It can improve its efficiency and solve the Problems mentioned above.

  • The purpose of this study is to design the algorithm, Predictive Service Component - PSC, for forecasting and judging obsolescence of solar system that is implemented based on the micro-inverter. PSC proposed in this study is suitable for monitoring of distributed power generation systems. It provides a diagnosis functionality to detect failures and anomaly events. It also can determine the aging of PV systems. The conclusion of this study shows the research and development of this kind of integrated system using PSC will be needed more and varied in the near future.

  • Solar cell converts sunlight into the electricity that one of the most versatile forms of energy. It has been developed and applied on residental electric power system by urbanized countries as a alternative energy source to overcome energy problem after oil shock. This paper summarizes the results of these efforts by offering a snapshot of the configuration of photovoltaic in residential applications. The status of PV system components and inter-connection and safety equipment will be summarized. Hence this paper discusses only points that might be useful for application.

  • This paper deals with stand-alone Photovoltaic system(SPVS) with charge and discharge controller. Main power source of SPVS are generally solar cell and battery. therefore SPVS can be classified into variable types in accordance with connection type between battery and solar cell. Mainly used one of them is direct connection type which has advantages such as simple structure and simple controller. However most big drawback of this system is energy loss by voltage disharmony between solar cell and battery. Therefore SPVS with charge and discharge controller which can operate solar cell at maximum power point is designed and analyzed by simulation in this paper.

  • In solar industry the development of tracking PV power generation devices progresses favorably because of its efficiency, comparing with fixed PV power generation devices. Tracking PV power generation device are not only preserving the amount of solar radiation per unit area but also maximizing the efficiency of solar battery. Therefore accurate and low-priced solar position tracking devices are very important to improve the economical efficiency and lower invest price. This research is concerned with solar position algorithm with uncertainties equal to 1 minute($0.016^{\circ}$) using the mathmatics and astronomg. Proposed algorithm in this paper, lowers the implementation price and improves power generation efficiency. In view of the result so far achieved, maximum error has 30 secend($0.008^{\circ}$). And the solar cell generating system applied by this algorithm showed the gain of the fixed type contrast average 23W(about 18%).

A Study on the Energy Improvement Plan of using Passive Design with Exterior Envelopes and Renewable Energy for Bio Safety Labotratory (외피의 Passive Design 요소와 신재생에너지를 적용한 생물안전 밀폐시설의 에너지 시스템 개선방안 연구)

  • In general, the entire air supply of a bio-safety laboratory (BSL) should be exhausted on the outside to ensure bio-safety, and the air conditioning system should always be operated to maintain a difference in the room pressure. As a result, the annual energy consumption of such a building is approximately five or ten times higher than that of an office building of the same magnitude. Thus, this study applies an actual operating system that targets BSL. The energy consumption is analyzed using the Energy Plus V8.0 program (an energy analysis program), and five kinds of cases that depend on the energy consumption of the basic BSL system are also analyzed. As a result, the energy consumption in Case 1 (basic system) is of 324.95 GJ. When the basic system of Case 1 is compared to that in Case 2 (basic system+passive design with exterior envelopes), an annual energy savings of is 6.9% is achieved. For Case 3 (basic system+Photovoltaic, PV) 12.7% is achieved, and for Case 4 (Solar Geothermal Hybrid System of renewable energy, SGHS) 49.5% is achieved. If a passive design with exterior envelopes and renewable energy system (PV+SGHS) is combined, as in Case 5, the energy consumption would be 118.15 GJ. Therefore, when this last system is compared to a basic system, the passive design with exterior envelopes and renewable energy system (PV+SGHS) can reduce energy consumption by 63.6%.

  • Recently the Korean government's green energy growth policy has been taken at the national level due to the sufficient supply of renewable energy. Some specific technique should be taken in consideration for the operation of the grid voltage and power quality management. In this case, there may have some chance of operational problems. Typical problems arise when grid-connected solar power produced by Pacific sunshine. The power flow in the reverse direction can create overvoltage on the distribution line and gives value of malfunction on the system. Line voltage and overvoltage adjustment practice can stop these symptoms occurred. Under these circumstances, this paper presents an interconnection test devices for photovoltaic(PV) systems composed of distribution system simulator, PV system simulator and control and monitoring systems using the LabVIEW S/W, and simulates the customer voltage characteristics considering the 3 parameters on the introduction capacity for PV systems, system configuration and Power factor. This paper also proposes a new calculation algorithm for voltage profile to make comparison between calculation values and test device values. The results show that the simulation results for the normal operation characteristics of PV systems which are very practical and effective.

A Monitoring Unit for Lead Storage Batteries in Stand Alone PV Generation Systems (독립형 태양광 발전소의 연 축전지 모니터링장치 개발)

  • Use of the PV(photovoltaic) generation system is increased in such areas as remote mountain places or islands at which electrical energy is not serviced. The stand alone PV system is required the power storage products such as battery, fly wheel and super capacitor. Several lead storage batteries are connected in series to get high voltages. The life of lead storage battery is shortened when over charge or over discharge takes place. So, it is needed to control batteries not to be overcharged or be discharged deeply. Voltage of each battery was ignored in former control methods in which overall voltage was used to control charge or discharge battery. In this study, the charging and discharging voltage variations of sealed lead storage batteries with l2V/l.2A were investigated step by step experiments. The results of the test show that one should consider and specify the state of each battery to prevent overcharge or deep discharge. With the basis of the experiments, we designed a monitoring unit to monitor battery voltages simultaneously using micro-controller. The unit measures voltage of 20 batteries simultaneously and displays data on the color LCD monitor with curved line graph. It also sends data to PC using the RS232C communication port. The designed unit was adapted to stand alone PV system with 1kW capacity and lead storage batteries are connected to the PV generation system. The number of lead storage batteries was 10 in series and 12V/250Ah each. Resistive load with 3kW was used for discharging.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the present status of the safety manager and safety assurance aspects through a complex analysis on the operational aspects, marketability and electrical safety aspects of photovoltaic power generation facilities. In the analysis of the equipment status, we analyzed the status and operated status of the installed PV system in Korea and the correlation between the safety manager and the accident. In addition, we analyzed the direction of the ESS through the analysis of the installation status of the ESS, and applied it to the interpretation part of the ESS associated with the solar power generation. The status of the electric safety manager can be used to analyze the data for selecting the electric safety manager by capacity by analyzing the accident status, the electric safety manager operation status, the safety management time by capacity, and the electric safety manager market.
