Optical characteristics in polymer films of MEH-PPV/DFPP blends were for the first time investigated. DFPP (N, N'-diperfluorophenyl-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide) used here was a novel n-type polymer, which had good stability in air and solubility in common solvents. For a 1:9 DFPP:MEH-PPV blend, highly efficient quenching of photoluminescence (PL) was observed. In addition, the photocurrent responses of these MEH-PPV/DFPP photovoltaic cells were measured. When the light intensity was $50mW/cm^2$, short-circuit photocurrent densities were two times higher than those of single layer MEH-PPV devices.

Novel Sr-Y-Si-Oxynitride yellow phosphors were synthesized and the effect of calcination temperature, reduction temperature and $Eu^{2+}$ concentration on their luminescence properties were studied. Optimal temperature conditions were found to be $1400^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ for solid-state reaction and reduction, respectively. The synthesized $Ba_9Y_{2+y}Si_6O_{24-3y}N_{3y}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors showed a single intense broadband emission in the range of 571~587 nm for 450 nm excitation light source. The highest luminescence intensity was obtained with Eu concentration of 3 mol% and concentration quenching was observed beyond 5 mol%. FE-SEM and PSA showed that the synthesized phosphors consists of particles with an average size of ${\sim}8.2{\mu}m$.

A phosphor for Plasma Display Panel, BaMgAl$_{10}$ O$_{17}$ :Eu$^{2+}$, showing a blue emission band at about 450nm was prepared by a solid-state reaction using BaCO$_3$, $Al_2$O$_3$, MgO, Eu$_2$O$_3$ as starting materials wish flux AlF$_3$. The study of the behaviour of Eu in BAM phosphor was carried out by the photoluminescence spectra and the Rietveld method with X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data to refine the structural parameters such as lattice constants, the valence state of Eu, the preferential site of Mg atom and the site fraction of each atom. The phenomenon of the concentration quenching was abound 2.25~2.3wt% of Eu due to a decrease in the critical distance for energy transfer of inter-atomic Eu. Through the combined Rietveld refinement, R-factor, R$_{wp}$, was 8.11%, and the occupancy of Eu and Mg was 0.0882 and 0.526 at critical concentration. The critical distance of Eu$^{2+}$ in BAM was 18.8$\AA$ at 2.25% Eu of the concentration quenching. Furthermore, c/a ratio was decreased to 3.0wt% and no more change was observed over that concentration. The maximum entropy electron density was found that the modeling of $\beta$-alumina structure in BaMgAl$_{10}$ O$_{17}$ :Eu$^{2+}$correct coincided showing Ba, Eu, O atoms of z= 1/4 mirror plane.e.ane.e.
[ $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_4F:Eu_x^{3+}$ ](A = Ca, Sr, Ba, x = -0.15, z = 0, 0.1) oxyfluoride phosphors were simply prepared by the solid-state method at $1050^{\circ}C$ in air. The phosphors had the bright red photoluminescence (PL) spectra of an $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_4F$ for $Eu^{3+}$ activator. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the obtained red phosphors were exhibited for indexing peak positions and calculating unit-cell parameters. Dynamic excitation and emission spectra of $Eu^{3+}$ activated red oxyfluoride phosphors were clearly monitored. Red and blue shifts gradually occurred in the emission spectra of $Eu^{3+}$ activated $A_3AlO_4F$ oxyfluoride phosphors when $Sr^{2+}$ by $Ca^{2+}$ and $Ba^{2+}$ ions were substituted, respectively. The concentration quenching as a function of $Eu^{3+}$ contents in $A_{3-2x/3}AlO_4F:Eu^{3+}$ (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) was measured. The interesting behaviors of defect-induced $A_{3-2x/3}Al_{1-z}In_{z}O_{4-{\alpha}}F_{1-{\delta}}$ phosphors with $Eu^{3+}$ activator are discussed based on PL spectra and CIE coordinates. Substituting $In^{3+}$ into the $Al^{3+}$ position in the $A_{3-2x/3}AlO_4F:Eu^{3+}$ oxyfluorides resulted in the relative intensity of the red emitted phosphors noticeably increasing by seven times.
ZnSe/ZnS, UV-blue luminescent core shell quantum dots, were synthesized via a thermal decomposition reaction of organometallic zinc and solvent coordinated Selenium (TOPSe) in a hot solvent mixture. The synthetic conditions of the core (ZnSe) and the shell (ZnS) were independently studied at various reaction temperature conditions. The obtained colloidal nanocrystals at corresponding temperatures were characterized for their optical properties by UV-vis, room temperature solution photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and further obtained powders were characterized by XRD, TEM, and EDXS analyses. The synthetic temperature condition to obtain the best PL emission intensity for the ZnSe core was 300 ${^{\circ}C}$, and for the optimum shell capping, the temperature was 135 ${^{\circ}C}$. At this temperature, solution PL spectrum showed a narrow emission peak at 427 nm with a PL efficiency of 15%. In addition, the measured particle sizes for the ZnSe/ZnS nanocomposite via TEM were in the range of 5 to 12 nm. Furthermore, we have synthesized water-soluble ZnSe/ZnS nanoparticles by capping the ZnSe/ZnS hydrophobic surface with mercaptoacetate (MAA) molecules. For the obtained aqueous colloidal solution, the UV-vis spectrum showed an absorption peak at 250 nm, and the solution PL emission spectrum showed a peak at 425 nm, which is similar to that for hydrophobic quantum dot ZnSe/ZnS. However, the calculated PL efficiency was relatively low (0.1%) due to the luminescence quenching by water and MAA molecules. The capping ligand was also characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, with the carbonyl stretching peak in the mercaptoacetate molecule appearing at 1575 $cm ^{-1}$. Finally, the particle sizes of the MAA capped ZnSe/ZnS were measured by TEM, showing a range of 12 to 17 nm.

Willemite green phosphor powders have been prepared by the metallo-organic decomposition (MOD) method, and the photoluminescence and phase formation were studied as a function of both the firing temperature ($800{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$) and the concentration of Mn activator ($4{\sim}12 mol%$). Under 254 nm excitation source, the emission intensity of the phosphors increased with increasing the firing temperature from 800 to $1000^{\circ}C$. From the XRD analysis, the powders heat-treated above $1000^{\circ}C$ showed willemite crystal structure. The maximum emission intensity was obtained far the phosphors heat-treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ with 8 mol% of Mn content. The concentration quenching was occurred when the Mn concentration exceeded 10 mol%. The phosphor particles showed spherical shapes with the average size of $0.4{\sim}0.5{\mu}m$ by the SEM morphology.

Red-emitting nitride phosphors recently attracted considerable attention because of their high thermal stability and high color rendering index properties. For excellent phosphor of white light-emitting-diode, ternary nitride phosphor of $Sr/SmSi_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ with different $Eu^{2+}$ ion concentration were synthesized by solid state reaction method. In this work, red-emitting nitride $Sr/SmSi_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor was successfully synthesized by using multi-step high frequency induction heat treatment. The effects of molar ratio of component and experimental conditions on luminescence property of prepared phosphors have been investigated. The structure and luminescence properties of prepared $Sr/SmSi_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were investigated by XRD and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The excitation spectra of $Sr/SmSi_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors indicated broad excitation wavelength range of 300 - 550 nm, namely from UV to visible area with distinct enhanced emission peaks. With an increase of $Eu^{2+}$ ion concentration, the peak position of emission in spectra was red-shifted from 613 to 671 nm. After via multi-step heat treatment, prepared phosphor showed excellent luminescence properties, such as high emission intensity and low thermal quenching, better than commercial phosphor of $Y_3Al_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$. Using $Eu_2O_3$ as a raw material for $Eu^{2+}$ dopant with nitrogen gas flowing instead of using commercial EuN chemical for $Sr/SmSi_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ synthesis is one of characteristic of this work.

ZnO was grown on a Au-catalyzed Si(100) substrate by using a simple vapor phase transport (VPT) with a mixture of zinc oxide and graphite powders. The ZnO grown at 800$^{\circ}C$ had a soccer ball structure with diameters of <500 nm. The ZnO soccer ball structure was, for the first time, observed in this work. The optical properties of the ZnO soccer balls were investigated by photoluminescence (PL). In the room-temperature (RT) PL of the ZnO soccer balls, a strong near-band-edge emission (NBE) and a weak deep-level emission were observed at 3.25 and 2.47 eV (green emission), respectively. The weak deep-level emission (DLE) at around 2.47 eV (green emission) is caused by impurities and structural defects. The FWHM of the NBE peak from the ZnO soccer balls was 110 meV. In addition, the PL intensity ratio of the NBE to DLE was about 4. The temperature-dependent PL was also carried out to investigate the mechanism governing the quenching behavior of the PL spectra.
$CaAl_2O_4:RE^{3+}$(RE = Tb or Dy) phosphor powders were synthesized with different contents of activator ions $Tb^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ by using the solid-state reaction method. The effects of the content of activator ions on the crystal structure, morphology, and emission and excitation properties of the resulting phosphor particles were investigated. XRD patterns showed that all the synthesized phosphors had a monoclinic system with a main (220) diffraction peak, irrespective of the content and type of $Tb^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ ions. For the $Tb^{3+}$-doped $CaAl_2O_4$ phosphor powders, the excitation spectra consisted of one broad band centered at 271 nm in the range of 220-320 nm and several weak peaks; the main emission band showed a strong green band at 552 nm that originated from the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition of $Tb^{3+}$ ions. For the $Dy^{3+}$-doped $CaAl_2O_4$ phosphor, the emission spectra under ultraviolet excitation at 298 nm exhibited one strong yellow band centered at 581 nm and two weak bands at 488 and 672 nm. Concentration-dependent quenching was observed at 0.05 mol of $Tb^{3+}$ and $Dy^{3+}$ contents in the $CaAl_2O_4$ host lattice.
