  • Festival records are valuable social records, not only historically but also culturally. Even though festival records are worthy of preservation, many of them are not managed appropriately. In particular, photographs taken by the public are dispersed in various SNS services such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This study collected festival photographs, taken by the public, from these SNS services and built a participatory archive for Daegu. As such, this study identified and suggested a metadata set through the process of archiving festival photographs. In addition, this study proposed a model of the participatory archive for festival photographs. This model illustrated the institute's collection of festival photographs in the SNS services and the creation of the participatory archive.

  • Today, as individuals show their social identities and reflect their being as the members of society with a culture, an art style and communication function are stood out in fashion photographs. Accordingly, the meanings of images into text are expanded in its interpretative width through the acceptor's various terms. This researcher looked into four theories of both positions on the textuality of language and image, and considered the point of discussion on image of each theory through modern fashion photographs. First, the theory which divides language and image as auditory and visual recognitions in the textuality of language and image is limited from the view it focuses on only one side without considering the ambivalent elements of each field. For the textuality in modern fashion photographs, the observer attempts to turn it into text to give meaning to it as the recognition through five senses conforming to the acceptor's condition. Second, the theory dividing language and image into the text of time properties and spacial properties has limitation in the text, for acceptor's experience of the object appears as the structured form in time and space rather than being defined as two things like time and space. Third, the theory classifying the language and image text into conventional taste and natural taste has limitation from the view that image text is hardly an object of consistent classification in ease of recognition by the code accepted in society. Thus, this can't be fundamental approach for the understanding of the text of decoding trend represented in modern fashion photographs. Fourth, accordingly, this researcher focussed on contextual and arbitrary text of fashion photographs through the theory of Nelson Goodman which discusses image text through the differences in textuality. Basic mechanism of perceiving and recognizing and distinguish image is closely related to habit and custom like language. So, each acceptor perceives the image as a text through arbitrary interpretation obtained by individual, empirical, historical, and educational viewpoints. The textuality of modern fashion photographs aims to widen the range of diverse knowledge and understanding, transcending the regulations of simple function of existing fashion photographs. Consequently, this researcher puts forward the opinion of consistent and diverse follow-up studies on instilling meaning into fashion photographs for the understanding de-regulatory and de-constructive through various senses by avoiding only one sense-dependent fixed and regulatory properties of it.

  • Percival Lowell took photographs of 80s during his stay in Korea in the winter of 1883 and 1884. The photographs are the first in the history of Korea and contain various and precious information about Korea of the day. As such, they could be used for purposes of studying late 19th century Chosōn society. The 61 photographs that are archived in Boston Museum of Fine Art were catalogued by National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and have been posted online with incorrect explanations by Boston Museum of Fine Art. The explanations have been composed and revised at least four times on the basis of Lowell's writings and archivists' understandings of Korea. However these explanations contain many errors regarding the content of the photographs, yet have been cited by researchers and books concerning the history of Korea. I examined the explanations, analyzed Lowell's writings and diplomatic documents, and confirmed the locations where the photographs were taken. Accordingly, I suggest improved explanations of the photographs to prevent misuse of the Boston Museum of Fine Art's online archive. Lowell's photographs of Chosōn have very high historical value and could be used in various cultural fields because of their various contents and high definition. However, they belong to America and are not cared for sufficiently. Therefore, I suggest that high definition digital scans and prints of the photographs be generated for the sake of overseas Korean cultural heritage collection.

  • A photograph used in a film poster summarizes the story of the film that lasts for around two hours. The image must contain a picture that represents the story and text including the title, with various design elements composed in a harmonious way. However, given that a photograph is the most noticeable element in a film poster, this study aims to examine the function, role, and types of a film poster and analyze poster photographs. Currently, there are companies specialized in photography for film posters, but sometimes recognized photographers are commissioned to take a photograph that will be used for a film poster. Hein-kuhn Oh actively produced such photographs in the early and mid-2000s, and this study deals with 'how the photographs recreate the content of the films' focused on three selected photographs taken by him. Also, There were commonalities found between the tree photographs and Oh's personal portrait photographs, which were then analyzed from the photographic aesthetic point of view. The three selected works are: , , and .

  • Purpose: To assess the relationship between soft tissue reference line and hard tissue reference line using the standardized photographs and the posteroanterior cephalometric radiographs(P-A)in facial asymmetric patients and to compare the differences of angular measurement between normal group and asymmetry group. Methods: Normal group consisted of 44 persons with normal occlusion and normal facial morphology. Asymmetry group consisted of 90 patients with facial asymmetry. Standardized facial photographs and P-A were taken in all subjects. The horizontal reference lines were bipupillary line in photographs and latero-orbitale line in P-A respectively. The vertical reference line were the line from the midpoint of horizontal reference line perpendicularly. Angular measurement of otobasion canting, lip canting, nose deviation, chin deviation, and maxillary deviation were compared and analyzed in photographs. And angular measurement of mastoid canting, mandibular canting, nose deviation, chin deviation, and maxillary deviation were compared and analyzed in P-A. Results: 1. The variables of photographs and P-A were significantly related in the asymmetry group. 2. Significant differences between all variables except for PT2 and PA2 were shown in the asymmetry group and between PT1 and PA1, PT3 and PA3 in the normal group respectively. 3. Comparison measurement scores of angular difference between control group and experimental group concerning each variable showed significant difference except for PA1. Conclusions: Soft tissue components may not compensate for underlying skeletal imbalance in nose deviation and chin deviation. The horizontal reference lines in photographs were significant related with the P-A, but angular variables between the two studies show significant differences. Therefore, we do not recommend use photography in the assessment the facial asymmetry as complemented in the P-A.

  • This study aims to suggest the Deconstruction theory that is changing and developing by being converted into visual from as cultural code which reflects the spirit of the times and art style as well as to analyze the phenomenon of deconstruction expressed in the Fashion photographs. Fashion photographs are historical documents presenting us with the evidence of the ideal body types and culture throughout time. Fashion photographs is direct information about the fashion itself, and at the same time, it transmits various circumstances of the times. Fashion photographs has opened a new aspect called visual communication, when it's seen in new, more profound way, instead of being locked in its visible frame. Photograph is no longer a mere means to preserve documentation or pursue artistic expression. Instead, it's now regarded as a way to pursue visual transmission owing to its cognitive psychology, and this is a remarkable step toward new thing. In this study, the possible visual information function of photograph was explored from diverse aspects, such as the combination of photo and design, its linking to printing technology's mass production function, or the development of its imagery symbolism. This study shows that the nature of deconstruction can be explained as deconstruction of the sexes, deconstruction of the time and space, and deconstruction of the genre.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the changes for the first birthday's costume in westernizing Korea society of the twentieth century. For this study, I analysed the related literature for the first half the twentieth century due to the lack of relevant photographs, while I used the method of content analysis of 136 photographs for the second half of the twentieth century. According to the analysis of photographs, first birthday's costume for girls dressed up was more different than those for boys. But first birthday's costume items for boys were more than those for girls. Generally first birthday's costume consists of Bokkon Jeonbok Jeogori(Sackdong) and Baji for boy's, Chima and SackdongJeogori for girl's. Because the meanings and look of Hogun, Durumagi, Sagusam, Busun and Baeza are good, those items might be to used for first birthday's costume in the future. To establish better first birthday's culture and costume in Korea, it is important to educate people involved in related business for traditional costume. Because most of first birthday's costume are usually borrowed for photographs. Also item and design for the first birthday's costume should be studied in order to improve traditional cultural products.

  • Despite the creative strengths fashion illustrations, most fashion related advertisements use photographs instead. Furthermore, there is not much study done on the effects of fashion illustrations. Through this study the authors discover the effectiveness of fashion related magazine advertisements using fashion illustrations by looking into the level of recognition due to interaction effects between advertisements using photographs and advertisements using fashion illustrations. This study, however, does not focus on comparing the different levels of recognition effect between photographs and fashion illustrations. After a literature review of magazines with high rank subscriptions, an experiments was conducted. A booklet was made using 16 fashion illustration advertisements and 16 photograph advertisements all designed to control variables other than advertisement type. Then a survey was taken using the booklet to measure the recognition levels of the different types of advertisements. Through an ANOVA test of the 2 ${\times}$ 3 factorial designed model the authors derived results implying that interaction effects do exist between the different types of advertisements. In the environment where advertisements using photographs dominate, advertisements using fashion illustrations can effectively be recognised by the consumers. Through this study, the authors wish to give guidance to decision makers in the fashion industry related to the type of printed advertisement they should seek.

  • The flood caused landslide disaster each year because of climate change. And the change of topography from an earthquake makes topographical analysis impossible. This paper performed an investigation about a utilization methods and generation DEM(Digital Elevation Model) after digital aerial photographs quickly when the topographical change happens. Stereo imagery that was collected through digital aerial photographs made a generation of DEM possible. A standard deviation of generated DEM is 0.864m which is somewhat high but shows the real topography. As a result, it should be possible to generate DEM by using aerial photographs in case of the change of topography.
