A automated noncontact weight system for pigs consisted of a CCD-type video camera and 10 photo sensors connected to a computer. In the experiment 20 pigs(Large Yorkshire $\times$ Landrace breed) weighing from 95kg to 115kg were used. Pig's original image data was transformed to a binary image an image excluding head and tail portion from the whole binary image and the area of pig was calculated. Then pig's volume was calculated by multiplying the area by the body hight measured with photo sensors. The correlation equation between the above volume(x) and pig's weight was y=0.0007 x -9.2152($R^2$=0.9965) Performance of a automated noncontact weighing system for pigs was tested with this equation. The results showed $\pm$0.65kg average error and 1.63kg maximum error. It was concluded that performance of a automated noncontact weighing system is excellent.
Resolution of an image sensor is very significant parameter to improve. It is hard to improve the resolution of the CMOS vision chip for edge detection based on a biological retina using a resistive network because the vision chip contains additional circuits such as a resistive network and some processing circuits comparing with general image sensors such as CMOS image sensor (CIS). In this paper, we proved the problem of low resolution by separating photo-sensing and signal processing circuits. This type of vision chips occurs a problem of low operation speed because the signal processing circuits should be commonly used in a row of the photo-sensors. The low speed problem of operation was proved by using a reset decoder. A vision chip for edge detection with $128{\times}128$ pixel array has been designed and fabricated by using $0.35{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal CMOS technology. The fabricated chip was integrated with optical lens as a camera system and investigated with real image. By using this chip, we could achieved sufficient edge images for real application.
A chaotic oscillator with light controllability was designed. The proposed chaotic oscillator consists of a photo sensor, two phase clock driven MOS switches, nonlinear function blocks for chaotic signal generation. SPICE circuit analysis using a 0.35 um CMOS process parameters was performed for its chaotic dynamics. And we confirmed that chaotic behaviors of the circuit can be controlled according to light intensity. By SPICE simulation, chaotic dynamics by time waveforms, frequency analysis was analyzed. SPICE results showed that proposed circuit can make various light-controlled chaotic signals.
This paper presents a study into pH Indicator-Embedded hydrogel micro-particles which are encoded various shapes according to the captured indicator. We incorporate various pH indicators into a photo-curable hydrogel, PEG-DA(Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate). Using the latest fluidic lithography techniques, we can easily fabricate variously patterned hydrogel particles based on in-situ photopolymerization of the PEG-DA in a micro-fluidic channel. The shape of the particle is related to the pH indicator inside the particle. We demonstrate that the micro pH sensors change their colors according to the pH levels. The micro pH sensors have various characteristics that are related to the curing time, particle size, etc. By changing these conditions, we can adjust the long term stability and reaction time of the hybrid micro pH sensors.
Brittle materials, especially single-crystal silicon wafer, are widely used for sensors, IC industry, and MEMS applications. e general machining process of crack easy materials is by chemical agents, but it is hazardous and time consuming. Also, it is difficult to get high aspect ratio micro structure. As an alternative tool, an AJM(Abrasive jet machining) is promising method in terms of high aspect ratio and production cost. In this study, to get more precise detail compared to general AJM, photo polymer mask, SU-8, used in photolithography was applied in AJM. Process parameters such as abrasive diameter, air pressure, nozzle diameter, flow rate of abrasive in AJM and a variety of conditions in spin coating were decided. Finally, micro channel and mixer was fabricated to see the efficiency of the AJM with photo polymer mask.
This article describes a novel method for the detection of amyloid-${\beta}$($A{\beta}$) peptide that utilizes a photo-sensitive field-effect transistor (p-FET). According to a recent study, $A{\beta}$ protein has been known to play a central role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Accordingly, we investigated the variation of photo current generated from p-FET with and without intracellular magnetic beads conjugated with $A{\beta}$ peptides, which are placed on the p-FET sensing areas. The decrease of photo current was observed due to the presence of the magnetic beads on the channel region. Moreover, a similar characteristic was shown when the Raw 264 cells take in magnetic beads treated with $A{\beta}$ peptide. This means that it is possible to simply detect a certain protein using magnetic beads and a p-FET device. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest that our method could detect tiny amounts of $A{\beta}$ for early diagnosis of AD using the p-FET devices.
