Common-mode Voltage Reduction for Inverters Connected in Parallel Using an MPC Method with Subdivided Voltage Vectors

  • This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) method to reduce the common-mode voltage (CMV) for inverters connected in parallel, which increase the capacity of energy storage systems (ESSs). The proposed method is based on subdivided voltage vectors, and the resulting algorithm can be applied to control the inverters. Furthermore, we use more voltage vectors than the conventional MPC algorithm; consequently, the quality of grid currents is improved. Several methods were proposed in order to reduce the CMV appearing during operation and its adverse effects. However, those methods have shown to increase the total harmonic distortion of the grid currents. Our method, however, aims to both avoid this drawback and effectively reduce the CMV. By employing phase difference in the carrier signals to control each inverter, we successfully reduced the CMV for inverters connected in parallel, thus outperforming similar methods. In fact, the validity of the proposed method was verified by simulations and experimental results.

  • 본 논문에서 수행된 DFB(distributed feedback)-LD(laser diode)의 DC와 AC 특성 분석을 위한 모델링은 레이저 다이오드 공진기 내의 spatial hole burning과 $\lambda$/4 위상천이 된 회절 격자의 영향을 고려한 것으로서 DC특성 분석을 위한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 공진기내의 광파워 분포와 캐리어 밀도 분포 그리고 광-전류 곡선등을 얻었으며, AC 특성 분석을 위한 시뮬레이션으로부터는 비교적 정확한 IM 응답과 FM의 위상과 크기 응답을 얻었다.

Modular Multilevel Converter Based STATCOM Topology Suitable for Medium-Voltage Unbalanced Systems

  • This paper discusses a transformerless shunt static compensator (STATCOM) based on a modular multilevel converter (MMC). It introduces a new time-discrete appropriate current control algorithm and a phase-shifted carrier modulation strategy for fast compensation of the reactive power and harmonics, and also for the balancing of the three-phase source side currents. Analytical formulas are derived to demonstrate the accurate mechanism of the stored energy balancing inside the MMC. Various simulated waveforms verify that the MMC based STATCOM is capable of reactive power compensation, harmonic cancellation, and simultaneous load balancing, while controlling and balancing all of the DC mean voltages even during the transient states.

  • We introduce 2[MVA] 3300[V] 7-level voltage source inverter system developed by POSCON and describe the main characteristics of inverter system i.e. PWM converter, H-bridge power module, phase shifted carrier PWM The PWM converter is a three-phase boost converter, which operates in a 4-quadrant and in a nearly unit displacement power factor. Experimental waveforms are also presented to verify the proposed method and performance of the developed system.

  • 본 논문에서는 플라잉 커패시터 멀티-레벨 인버터의 가장 큰 문제점인 커패시터 전압 불균형을 캐리어 비교방식을 토대로 한 펄스 폭 변조 방식(PWM)을 이용하여 제어하는 새로운 PWM방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 멜티-레벨 인버터로 확장이 용이한 캐리어 비교 방식의 PWM방법으로서 플라잉 커패시터 인버터에서 소자의 스위칭시각 커패시터의 충·방전으로 인해 발생되는 전압불균형에 대해 상전압 리던던시와 선간전압 리던던시를 이용하여 커패시터 전압의 변화량을 일정주기에 대해 평균적으로 영으로 제어하게 된다. 또한 이 방법은 상전압 리던던시를 고르게 이용하여 소자의 스위치 손실과 도통 손실을 같게 하는 장점을 지닌다. 본문에서 플라잉 커패시터 인버터에 서 발생하는 커패시터 전압 불균형에 대해 분석하고 이 인버터에 적합한 캐리어 비교방식의 PWM방법을 설명한다.

  • Front end AC to DC converters of the boost type are used in traction applications for generating the DC link for the inverters. A GTO based converter is usually switched with a switching frequency of 300 to 500Hz, resulting in low frequency harmonic problems. In order to avoid this, multiple converters with phase shifted carrier signals are used to suppress the low frequency harmonics. A detailed study of an AC to DC converter, parallel operated with reduced sensor and improved power-factor in light load conditions is presented in this paper.

  • 본 논문에서는 연료 전지 시스템을 위한 Z-소스 인버터로 구성된 병렬 운전 시스템을 제시 하였다. PWM 방식으로는 Carrier phase shifted SPWM을 적용하였으며 이 방식은 출력 전류의 고조파 성분을 줄일 수 있는 장점을 갖는다. 그러나 이 기법을 Z-소스 인버터로 구성된 병렬 운전 시스템에 적용하는 경우 추가적으로 순환 전류를 발생한다. Z-소스 인버터로 구성된 병렬 운전 시스템이 동작 시 발생하는 순환 전류를 감소시키며, 부하전류에 낮은 고조파 성분을 가질 수 있도록 커플링된 순환 전류 리액터를 사용하였다. 이에 대한 적합성을 시뮬레이션을 통해 입증하였다.

Charge Transfer Mechanism of Electrically Bistable Switching Devices based on Polyimide

  • Charge transfer mechanism of poly(4,4'-aminotriphenylene hexafluoroisopropylidenediphthalimide) (TP6F PI) which exhibits bistable ON and OFF switching has been studied using photoemission electron spectroscopy (PES) and near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS). Here, we demonstrate novel set-up in which holes are injected by photoemission process instead of direct charge carrier injection via metal electrode. The accumulated charges on the PI surface in the OFF state abruptly flow across the PI film when the bias voltage of a back electrode reaches a specific value, indicating that the film is changed to the ON state. Core level and x-ray absorption spectra probed at charge injection region via photoemission process do not show any evidences implying structural modification of TP6F PI during the phase change. Whereas, in valence band spectra, the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is shifted toward Fermi level, responsible for improved hole-mobility of TP6F PI of ON state.

A Novel Modulation Scheme and a DC-Link Voltage Balancing Control Strategy for T-Type H-Bridge Cascaded Multilevel Converters

  • The cascaded multilevel converter is widely adopted to medium/high voltage and high power electronic applications due to the small harmonic components of the output voltage and the facilitation of modularity. In this paper, the operation principle of a T-type H-bridge topology is investigated in detail, and a carrier phase shifted pulse width modulation (CPS-PWM) based control method is proposed for this topology. Taking a virtual five-level waveform achieved by a unipolar double frequency CPS-PWM as the output object, PWM signals of the T-type H-bridge can be obtained by reverse derivation according to its switching modes. In addition, a control method for the T-type H-bridge based cascaded multilevel converter is introduced. Then a single-phase T-type H-bridge cascaded multilevel static var generator (SVG) prototype is built, and a repetitive controller based compound current control strategy is designed with the DC-link voltage balancing control scheme analyzed. Finally, simulation and experimental results validate the correctness and feasibility of the proposed modulation method and control strategy for T-type H-bridge based cascaded multilevel converters.

Optical emission analysis of hybrid air-water discharges

  • In this paper, hybrid air-water discharges were used to develop an optimal condition for providing a high level of water decomposition for hydrogen yield. Electrical and optical phenomena accompanying the discharges were investigated along with feeding gases, flow rates, and point-to-plane electrode gap distance. The primary focus of this experiment was put on the optical emission of the near UV range, with the energy threshold sufficient for water dissociation and excitation. The $OH(A^{2+},'=0\;X^2,"=0$) band's optical emission intensity indicated the presence of plasma chemical reactions involving hydrogen formation. In the gaseous atmosphere saturated with water vapor the OH(A-X) band intensity was relatively high compared to the liquid and transient phases although the optical emission strongly depended on the flow rate and type of feeding gas. In the gaseous phase discharge phenomenon for Ar carrier gas transformed into a gliding arc via the flow rate growth. OH(A-X) band's intensity increased according to the flow rate or residence time of He feeding gas. Reciprocal tendency was acquired for $N_2$ and Ar carrier gases. The peak value of OH(A-X) intensity was observed in the proximity of the water surface, however in the cases of Ar and $N_2$ with 0.5 SLM flow rate peaks shifted to the region below the water surface. Rotational temperature ($T_{rot}$) was estimated to be in the range of 900-3600 K, according to the carrier gas and flow rate, which corresponds to the arc-like-streamer discharge.
