  • Single-phase induction motors are widely used in many light duty applications, especially in home and office. many applications which use these motors require adjustable speed control continuously. In general, the speed control of single-phase induction motor is accomplished at a few discrete speeds by using tapped-windings, pole switching or gear. These techniques are inefficient and complicated. In this paper, Torque controller which adjusts a generating torque using phase difference between main winding voltage and auxiliary winding voltage is proposed. The analysis includes the determination of the relationship between the auxiliary winding voltage is proposed. Simulation results of the torque-speed characteristics using the controlled auxiliary winding supply are shown and discussed. and the drive is tested experimentally to verify the results of the theory by using a dynamometer.

  • The switched reluctance motor (SRM) would have torque ripple if not operated with an MMF waveform specified for switching angle and phase voltage. This paper describes the robustic control scheme that permits the phase torque to be flat by PLL(Phase Locked Loop) controller. In this control scheme, the locked phase signal of PLL controls the switching dwell angle and it's loop filter signal controls the switching voltage adaptively. Experimental results show that stable dynamic performance is obtained for torque and speed together with low torque ripple on the operation of variable loads.

  • In this paper, roll/yaw attitude control of spacecraft using a double gimbaled wheel is discussed with two feedback controllers designed. One is a PD controller with no phase difference between roll and yaw control input. The other is a PD controller with a phase lag compensator about the yaw control input. The phase lag compensator is designed as a first order system and a lag parameter is designed for the yaw angle control. There are two case simulations for each controller ; constant disturbance torques and initial errors of nutation at motion. We obtain the results through simulations that steady-state error and rising time of yaw angle are determined by the compensator. Simulation parameters used in this study are the values of KOREASAT F1.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia and high efficiency. However, position sensor is essential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigates the speed control of sensorless SRM in which the phase current and change rate are utilized in position decision, and the period of dwell angle is variable by compensating the rotor angle. The proposed system consists of position decision, phase locked loop controller, switching angle controller and inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through experiments.

  • There are many elements that affect the average torque of the single phase SRM. It is related with the stator and rotor pole arcs, the dwell angle of the exciting current, the turn on/off angle, etc., Most of all, the turn on/off angle is affect the design procedure of the driving and control circuit. So, in this study, it is intend to analyze the effect that the variations of the turn on/off angle affects the average torque. and then this analyses will be used to design the control driver of the single phase SRM.

  • This paper describes the cycloidal wind turbine, which is a straight blade vertical axis wind turbine using the cycloidal blade system. Cycloidal blade system consists of several blades rotating about an axis in parallel direction. Each blade changes its pitch angle periodically. Cycloidal wind turbine is different from the previous turbines. The wind turbine operates with optimum rotating forces through active control of the blade to change pitch angle and phase angle according to the changes of wind direction and wind speed. Various numerical experiments were conducted to develop a small vertical axis wind turbine of 1 kW class. For this numerical analysis, the rotor system equips four blades consisting of a symmetric airfoil NACA0018 of 1.0m in span, 0.22m in chord and 1.0m in radius. A general purpose commercial CFD program, STAR-CD, was used for numerical analysis. PCL of MSC/PATRAN was used for efficient parametric auto mesh generation. Variables of wind speed, pitch angle, phase angle and rotating speed were set in the numerical experiments. The generated power was obtained according to the various combinations of these variables. Optimal pitch angle and phase angle of cycloidal blade system were obtained according to the change of the wind direction and the wind speed. Based on data obtained from the above analysis, control device was designed. The wind direction and the wind speed were sensed by a wind indicator and an anemometer. Each blades were actuated to optimal performance values by servo motors.

  • Phase angle control ac drives system gains a high popularity due to their simple implementation despite the disadvantage of their poor input power factor especially for large values of phase delay angle. Furthermore it generates subharmononic current at specific phase angle. As input current of do drive systems are sinusoidal, the power factor and subharmonic current characteristics are improve. This paper presents the application of a PWM control technique of do chopper system to reduce the subharmonic current and its characteristics using single-phase dc chopper drive system of universal motor.

  • In this paper, a control algorithm is discussed when the quadruped walking robot walks over the unknown soft ground. Firstly, it estimated the relationship between the foot force and the ground sinkage at the leg-placing phase. Secondly, the generated soil property is applied to the leg-supporting phase. If the attitude angle is changed by incorrect ground sinkage compensation, the control algorithm adjusts the attitude angle using simplified orientation orientation matrix.

  • This paper presents a current control strategy in the synchronous reference frame for a single-phase PWM converter, which ensures sinusoidal input current control under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition. Given that the distorted source voltage distorts the phase angle for PWM converter control, the input current contains the same harmonics as the source voltage. Aside from the distorted voltage, the variation in source frequency reduces the performance of input current control. To achieve sinusoidal input current control under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition, this paper proposes a compensation strategy of current reference with the distortion component extracted from the phase angle and a detection strategy of frequency variation from the output of a synchronous reference frame phase-lock loop. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed method under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition.
