Physical Property Change of the Gapless Semiconductor $PbPdO_2$ Thin Film by Ex-situ Annealing

  • We have studied lead-based gapless semiconductors, $PbPdO_2$, which is very sensitive to external parameters such as temperature, pressure, electric field, etc[1]. We have fabricated pure $PbPdO_2$, Co- and Mn-doped $PbPdO_2$ thin films using the pulsed laser deposition. Because of the volatile element of Pb, it is very difficult to grow the films. Note that in case of $MgB_2$, Mg is also volatile element. So in order to enhance the quality of $MgB_2$, some experiments are carried out in annealing with Mg-rich atmosphere [2]. This annealing process with volatile element plays an important role in making smooth surface. Thus, we applied such process to our studies of $PbPdO_2$ thin films. As a result, we found the optimal condition of ex-situ annealing temperature ${\sim}650^{\circ}C$ and time ~12 hrs. The ex-situ annealing brought the extreme change of surface morphology of thin films. After ex-situ annealing with PbO-rich atmosphere, the grain size of thin film was almost 100 times enlarged for all the thin films and also the PbO impurity phase was smeared out. And from X-ray diffraction measurements, we determined highly crystallized phases after annealing. So, we measured electrical and magnetic properties. Because of reduced grain boundary, the resistivity of ex-situ annealed samples changed smaller than no ex-situ sample. And the carrier densities of thin films were decreased with ex-situ annealing time. In this case, oxygen vacancies were removed by ex-situ annealing. Furthermore, we will discuss the transport and magnetic properties in pure $PbPdO_2$, Co- and Mn-doped $PbPdO_2$ thin films in detail.

  • The characteristics of $Al_2TiO_5$ ceramics were influenced by the additives and the heat treatment that controls the microcrack behavior at grain boundaries. The effect of additives on $Al_2TiO_5$ ceramics were investigated in terms of mechanical properties and thermal expansion at high temperature. The $Al_2TiO_5$ were synthesized at $1500^{\circ}C$, $1550^{\circ}C$ and $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2h by reaction sintering. The formation of $Al_2TiO_5$ phase was increased by additives that enhanced the volume of the microcrack that can lead to low thermal expansion. The mechanical properties of the stabilized $Al_2TiO_5$ ceramics were increased remarkably at $1100^{\circ}C$, $1200^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ due to the oneset of mechanical healing of grain-bondary microcracks at a high temperature. The amount of microcrack was decreased at lower sintering temperature that causes the increase of mechanical properties at high temperature.

수직평판에서 층류막상 응축열전달에 관한 해석적 고찰 (An analytical study on the heat transfer of the laminar filmwise condensation on a vertical surface)

  • Two phase boundary layer equations of laminar filmwise condensation are solved by an approximate integral method under the following condition; saturated vapour flows vertically downward over a cooled surface of uniform temperature, the condensate film is so thin that the inertia and convection terms are neglected. The following conclusions are drawn under the above assumptions. 1. free convection In case of the linear temperature profile in a liquid film, numerical results for the average coefficients of heat transfer may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=4/3,(G $r_{l}$ /4.H)$^{1}$4/ and in case of the quadratic profile, numerical results may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=2/1.682,(G $r_{l}$ /H)$^{1}$4/. 2. Forced convection When the temperature profile is assumed to be linear in a liquid film, numerical results fir the average heat transfer coefficients may be expressed as N $u_{m}$=(A, R $e_{l}$ /H)$^{1}$2/. This expression is compared with the experimental results hitherto reported; For theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$<2*10$^{4}$, the experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ is on the average larger than theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$ by 30%. For (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$>2*10$^{4}$, experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ is about 1.6 times as large as theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$. These large deviation may be caused by the presence of turbulence in the liquid film. In case of the quadratic temperature profile in a liquid film, numerical results for the average coefficients of heat transfer may be expressed as N $u_{m}$'=(2,A,Re/H)$^{1}$2/. This formular shows that theoretical Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{th}$ is larger than experimental Nusselt number (N $u_{m}$)$_{exp}$ by 60%. It is speculated that when the temperature difference between cooled surface and saturated vapour is small, temperature profile in a liquid film is quadratic.quadratic.. quadratic.quadratic..atic..

준설토 유동해석을 위한 유한요소 수식화 (Numerical Formulation for Flow Analysis of Dredged Soil)

  • 준설토에 대한 연구는 주로 준설토의 1차원 침강 및 자중압밀 특성을 파악하는 실험적 연구가 진행되었다. 하지만 양질의 준설지반 확보를 위한 효과적인 투기장의 설계와 배출수에 의한 환경오염을 최소화하기 위해서는 준설토의 투기에 의한 유동특성의 체계적인 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 준설토 투기장의 펌핑에 의한 토사의 유동 형상을 모사하기 위하여 준설토사를 단일상으로 가정하고 연속 방정식을 유도하여 좌표축에 따른 힘 평형 방정식을 유도하였다. 준설토장의 3차원 거동 해석을 위한 컴퓨터 연산 부하와 모델링 소요시간을 최적화하기 위하여, 토체의 깊이 방향으로 적분을 수행하는 깊이 적분 방법을 지배 방정식에 적용하여, 3차원적 지형조건을 고려할 수 있도록 하였다. 지배 방정식의 보간함수를 이용한 공간분할에서 Petrov-Galerkin 수식화 기법을 적용하였다. 일반화된 사다리꼴 법칙으로 시간적분을 수행하고 Newton의 반복과정을 이용할 수 있도록 근사화시켰다. 가중행렬은 DG과 CDG 기법을 적용하였으며, 준설토 유동해석에서 가중행렬에 따른 수치적인 안정성을 평가하기 위하여 사각형 기둥 슬럼프 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 수치기법에 대한 비교 분석 결과는 DG 기법을 적용한 SU/PG 수식화가 유사진동을 최소화시키는 가장 안정적인 수치해석결과를 보여주는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 유전체 코팅된 유한한 두께의 주기적인 슬롯을 갖는 명행명판 도파관으로부터 누설파 안테나를 H-편파 경 우에 대하여 해석하였다. 이러한 구조에 대해 슬롯영역의 전자계는 명행평판 도파관의 TM 모드의 합으로 전 개하고 그 외의 모든 영역의 전자계는 역퓨리에 변환을 이용하여 파수영역 형태로 표현되어진다. 경계조건을 적용하여 선형동차 방정식을 유도한다. 슬롯 폭과 슬롯 두께, 유전체층 두께, 슬롯 개수의 영향이 위상 상수. 누설 상수 및 복사패턴 등과 같은 복사 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 유한한 슬롯 개수의 결과와 무한 구조의 결과와 비교하여 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

  • In this study, the microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.15Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.85(PbZr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$(0.15PNN-0.85PZT) ceramics having compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) was investigated with respect to the variation of $Y_2O_3$ and $Ga_2O_3$ addition amount. The dielectric properties increased and piezoelectric properties decreased with increasing the amount of $Ga_2O_3$. The solubility limit of $Y_2O_3$ is 0.5mol% in this system. The electro-mechanical coupling factor$(K_p)$ and dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) were 58.6% and 1755 when the amount of $Y_2O_3$ are 0.5mol%.

도펀트 첨가에 따른 0.57Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3-0.43PbTiO3 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전특성 (Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of 0.57Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3-0.43PbTiO3 Ceramics with Dopant Additions)

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.57Pb(Sc_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_{3}-0.43PbTiO_{3}$, which is the morphotropic phase boundary composition for the PSN-PT system, were investigated as a function of $Fe_{2}O_{3},\;Nb_{2}O_{5}\;and\;MnO_{2}$ addition 0 wt% to 0.9 wt%. The maximum dielectric constant of ${\varepsilon}_{33}/{\varepsilon}_{o}=2054$ and the minimum dielectric loss of $tan{\delta}=0.37\;%$ at room temperature were obtained at 0.1 wt% of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ and 0.5 wt% of $MnO_{2}$ addition, respectively. With addition of 0.5 wt% $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ and $0.5\;wt%\;MnO_{2}$, the electromechanical coupling factor $k_{p}$ and mecanical quality factor $Q_{m}$ were significantly increased, respectively. The maximum electromechanical coupling factor $k_{p}=61.5\;%$ was obtained by addition of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ and high mechanical quality factor $Q_{m}=919$ was obtained by addition of $MnO_{2}$. The $Q_{m}(=919)$ value is 3.3 times larger than that of non-doped 0.57PSN-0.43PT ceramics.

배플이 장착된 로켓 연소기의 선형 안정성 해석 (Linear Stability Analysis of a Baffled Rocket Combustor)

  • 액체산소 및 탄화수소를 사용하는 연소기의 고주파 연소불안정을 해석하기 위해 단순모델로서 Crocco의 $n-{\tau}$ 시간지연 연소모델을 적용하고, 음향과 커플된 연소기 내 유동에 대해 선형해석을 수행하였다. 변수분리를 통해 편미분 포텐셜함수 식을 원통좌표계 미분방정식으로 만들고, 연소기의 접선방향 공진모드에 대한 고유 값을 계산하였다. 분사면 및 노즐입구를 경계조건으로 적용하여 미분식의 해를 구했다. 시스템의 안정성 판정을 위해 전달함수를 주파수 해석 하였으며, 관심 영역 주파수인 1T 모드 주변 주파수에서 시스템 게인 및 위상각으로 안정성 여유를 평가하였다. 또한 1T 모드 안정성 향상을 위해 배플 길이 및 형상에 대한 영향을 평가하였다.

직교격자 기반 수치기법을 이용한 선박의 대변위 운동해석 (Analysis of Large-Amplitude Ship Motions Using a Cartesian-Gridbased Computational Method)

  • In this study, a Cartesian-grid method based on finite volume approach is applied to simulate the ship motions in large amplitude waves. Fractional step method is applied for pressure-velocity coupling and TVD limiter is used to interpolate the cell face value for the discretization of convective term. Water, air, and solid phases are identified by using the concept of volume-fraction function for each phase. In order to capture the interface between air and water, the tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) scheme is used with weighed line interface calculation (WLIC) method which considers multidimensional information. The volume fraction of solid body embedded in the Cartesian grid system is calculated using a level-set based algorithm, and the body boundary condition is imposed by a volume weighted formula. Numerical simulations for the two-dimensional barge type model and Wigley hull in linear waves have been carried out to validate the newly developed code. To demonstrate the applicability for highly nonlinear wave-body interactions such as green water on the deck, numerical analysis on the large-amplitude motion of S175 containership is conducted and all computational results are compared with experimental data.

The developments of heavy hydrocarbon reformer for SOFC

  • Heavy hydrocarbon reforming is a core technology for "Dirty energy smart". Heavy hydrocarbons are components of fossil fuels, biomass, coke oven gas and etc. Heavy hydrocarbon reforming converts the fuels into $H_2$-rich syngas. And then $H_2$-rich syngas is used for the production of electricity, synthetic fuels and petrochemicals. Energy can be used efficiently and obtained from various sources by using $H_2$-rich syngas from heavy hydrocarbon reforming. Especially, the key point of "Dirty energy smart" is using "dirty fuel" which is wasted in an inefficient way. New energy conversion laboratory of KAIST has been researched diesel reforming for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) as a part of "Dirty energy smart". Diesel is heavy hydrocarbon fuels which has higher carbon number than natural gas, kerosene and gasoline. Diesel reforming has difficulties due to the evaporation of fuels and coke formation. Nevertheless, diesel reforming technology is directly applied to "Dirty fuel" because diesel has the similar chemical properties with "Dirty fuel". On the other hand, SOFC has advantages on high efficiency and wasted heat recovery. Nippon oil Co. of Japan recently commercializes 700We class SOFC system using city gas. Considering the market situation, the development of diesel reformer has a great ripple effect. SOFC system can be applied to auxiliary power unit and distributed power generation. In addition, "Dirty energy smart" can be realized by applying diesel reforming technology to "Dirty fuel". As well as material developments, multidirectional approaches are required to reform heavy hydrocarbon fuels and use $H_2$-rich gas in SOFC. Gd doped ceria (CGO, $Ce_{1-x}Gd_xO_{2-y}$) has been researched for not only electrolyte materials but also catalysts supports. In addition, catalysts infiltrated electrode over porous $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.2}O_3-{\delta}$ and catalyst deposition at three phase boundary are being investigated to improve the performance of SOFC. On the other hand, nozzle for diesel atomization and post-reforming for light-hydrocarbons removal are examples of solving material problems in multidirectional approaches. Likewise, multidirectional approaches are necessary to realize "Dirty energy smart" like reforming "Dirty fuel" for SOFC.
