  • We utilize times since infall of cluster galaxies obtained from Yonsei Zoom-in Cluster Simulation (YZiCS), the cosmological hydrodynamic N-body simulations, and star formation rates from the SDSS data release 10 to study how quickly late-type galaxies are quenched in the cluster environments. In particular, we confirm that the distributions of both simulated and observed galaxies in phase-space diagrams are comparable and that each location of phase-space can provide the information of times since infall and star formation rates of cluster galaxies. Then, by limiting the location of phase-space of simulated and observed galaxies, we associate their star formation rates at z ~ 0.08 with times since infall using an abundance matching technique that employs the 10 quantiles of each probability distribution. Using a flexible quenching model covering different quenching scenarios, we find the star formation history of satellite galaxies that best reproduces the obtained relationship between time since infall and star formation rate at z ~ 0.08. Based on the derived star formation history, we constrain the quenching timescale (2 - 7 Gyr) with a clear stellar mass trend and confirm that the refined model is consistent with the "delayed-then-rapid" quenching scenario: the constant delayed phase as ~ 2.3 Gyr and the quenching efficiencies (i.e., e-folding timescale) outside and inside clusters as ~ 2 - 4 Gyr (${\propto}M_*^{-1}$) and 0.5 - 1.5 Gyr (${\propto}M_*^{-2}$), Finally, we suggest: (i) ram-pressure is the main driver of quenching of satellite galaxies for the local Universe, (ii) the quenching trend on stellar mass at z > 0.5 indicates other quenching mechanisms as the main driver.

  • Objective : This study was conducted to investigate the effects of iPad applications on improvement of attention and short-term memory in mild dementia. Methods : A single-case experimental study using A-B-A design was conducted. A total of 20 sessions, including 5 each for baseline phase A and A' and 10 for the intervention phase, were provided to the subject. Interventions were only provided during the intervention phase and were iOS-based iPad applications named "Memorado-Moving Balls" and "Circles." "Fit Brains-Matching Pairs" and "Fit-Brains-Spot the Difference" were used for each session to evaluate attention and short-term memory. MMSE-K, K-TMT-e A and B, and DST assessment tools were used pre- and post-intervention to assess attention and memory. Result : Fit Brains scores indicated improvement in both attention and memory during the intervention phase. K-TMT-e A showed 3 increased correct points and 3 reduced error points, and B showed 7 increased correct points and 2 reduced error points in post-tests, but the DST and MMSE-K showed no meaningful change. Conclusion : This single-case study identified improvements in attention and short-term memory in a person with mild dementia using iPad applications. Further studies regarding different applications and larger samples with long-term designs are necessary.

  • Objectives: This study observed changes in gait pattern according to the motor grade of the paretic lower limb in patients with basal ganglia stroke who are in the subacute phase. Methods: We used the Manual Muscle Test (MMT) to evaluate the motor grade of the paretic lower limb of 21 patients with subacute basal ganglia stroke and then divided them into two groups based on the MMT results. Stroke patients with a motor grade above Gr. III were put in group I (15 people) and those with a grade less than Gr. III in group II (6 people). We also estimated spatiotemporal factors using treadmill gait analysis equipment. The values were gait velocity, step length, step time, double support phase, and cadence. The first measure was conducted during the early period of admission and the second was between four and five weeks after admission. Results: In Group I, the gait velocity and step length of both legs significantly increased. In Group II, the step length and step time of the paretic side and the gait velocity tended to decrease, but not significantly. The step length of the paretic side in Group II was significantly longer than that in Group I at the first measure. The step time of the paretic side in Group I was significantly shorter than that in Group II and gait velocity and cadence in Group I were significantly higher than in Group II at the second measure. Conclusions: The gait parameters of all stroke patients improved in terms of time. In addition, the changes in gait pattern were different depending on the motor grade of the paretic lower limb.

  • Solid-liquid phase change (i.e. melting or solidification) occurs in a number of situations of practical interest. Some common examples include the melting of edible oil, metallurgical process such as casting and welding, and materials science applications such as crystal growth. Therefore, due to the practical importance of the subject, there have been a large number of experimental and numerical studies of problems involving phase change during the past few decades. Also, this study presented the effective way to enhance phase change heat transfer.

  • Due to the development of information communication field, the interest of the SMPS(Switched Mode Power Supply) is increased. The size and weight of SMPS are decided by inductor, capacitor and transformer. Thus, the low loss converter which is operated in high speed switching is required. The resonant FB DC-DC converter is able to operate in high speed switching and apply to high power field because the switching loss is low. In this thesis, it is proposed to control strategy for constant output power of resonant FB DC-DC converter in variable input voltage. The proposed control system is a digital I-PD type control and apply to phase-shift resonant type controller. The output voltage tracks reference without steady state error in variable input voltage. The validity of proposed control strategy is verified from results of simulation and experiment.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric ceramics PZT powder was synthesized by the Wet-Dry combination method. Flexible 1-3 type composite specimens were fabricated with the piezoceramics PZT filler phase and Eccogel polymer matrix phase. This paper represents the pulse-echo response of the 1-3 type composite transducer to check it out to investigate a basic property regarding a level limit switch. The acoustic impedance of 1-3 type composite was improved than that of single phase PZT ceramics. The pulse-echo response of transducer fabricated with the self-made 1-3 type composites resonator was better than that of the solid PZT transducer.

  • An experimental study was carried out to delineate the flow characteristics in a closed countescurrent two-phase thermo syphon with concentric tubes. This is to be installed in the HANARO research reactor as a part of a Cold Neutron Source(CNS). In the present investigation, experiments ata room temperature with Freon-II3 as a moderator were performed. Results show that, based on the magnitude of pressure fluctuation, the flow regimes could be divided into 4 distinct ones in the ($V_f,\;Q_i$) plane, where $V_f$ represents the volume of the charged liquid and $Q_i$ the heat load: a stable flow regime, an oscillatory flow regime, a restablized flow regime and a dryout flow regime. For $V_f$>2.5l, the flow is stable at low $Q_i$. However, as $Q_i$ increases, the flow becomes oscillatory and finally restablizes As $V_f$ increases, the oscillation amplitude decreases, reaching to the restablized flow region at low $Q_i$, and the liquid level in the moderator cell remains high. In the oscillatory flow regimes, for a fixed VI; the oscillating period of time varies with $Q_i$, having a minimum value at a certain value of $Q_i$. The heat load, where the oscillating period of time is minimum, decreases as $V_f$ increases.
