  • The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of self-efficacy in correlation between conscientiousness and neuroticism among the Big Five personality traits and stress coping strategies. The following two study questions were formulated. Study Question 1: What is the correlation between the Big Five personality traits, stress coping strategies, and self-efficacy Study Question 2: Among the Big Five personality traits, conscientiousness and neuroticism are selected as clinically very meaningful variables that represent mental health in undergraduates. If so, does self-efficacy play a mediating role in the correlation between conscientiousness and neuroticism and stress coping strategies To verify the two study questions, the Big Five personality traits, stress coping strategies scale, and self-efficacy scale were measured for a sample of 462 freshmen attending D University located in Chungcheong. First, according to the results of correlation analysis, neuroticism and self-efficacy showed a negative correlation, and conscientiousness showed a positive correlation. Regarding the Big Five personality traits and stress coping strategies, conscientiousness showed a negative correlation with avoidance-orientation among stress coping strategies. Neuroticism showed a negative correlation with social support and problem solving-orientation among stress coping strategies. Second, according to the results of analyzing the mediating effects of self-efficacy through hierarchical regression analysis, self-efficacy exerted partial mediating effects only in correlation between neuroticism and avoidance-orientation. This study is significant in its anticipation of undergraduates' stress coping, personality factors can be usefully employed as psychological constructs, and particularly, when an undergraduate reveals the neuroticism factor, which is one of the predictors for mental health, and the tendencies of avoidance among stress coping strategies, educational interventions for self-efficacy are needed to reduce their mental stress.

Methods : The current study included 52 outpatients who received occupational therapy in a rehabilitative and general hospital located in Incheon. Their personality traits were assessed using the Big Five Inventory-Korean Version (BFI-K), and depression was measured using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Quality of life was evaluated using the Stroke Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL) scale. The collected data were analyzed to identify the effects of personality traits on depression and quality of life using a multiple regression analysis. Result : Neuroticism and depression were significantly correlated (p<.05), and neuroticism and agreeableness were significantly correlated with quality of life (p<.05). Additionally, depression and quality of life were significantly correlated (p<.05). Neuroticism affected depression significantly ($R^2=.503$, p<.05). Among the five personality traits, neuroticism, agreeableness, and extraversion had a significant effect on quality of life ($R^2=.474$, p<.05). • The aim of this study was to investigate the patterns of the elementary school students' interests to animals and plants based on affinity toward animals and plants, and curiosity about animals and plants by using a cluster analysis. In addition, the differences of the big five personality traits by the identified clusters was examined. A total number of 411 elementary school students participated in the study. The students were clustered into four distinct interest groups with respect to the level of interests to animals and plants. Cluster 1 'Developed Interest to Organisms group' showed high levels in the interest to both animals and plants. Cluster 2 'Developed Interest to Animals group' showed high interest to animals and relatively low interest to plants whereas cluster 3 'Developed Interest to Plants group' showed high interest to plants and relatively low interest to animals. Lastly, cluster 4 were identified as 'Lack of Interest to Organisms group' by showing low levels of interest to both animals and plants. The four identified groups also showed different distributions of students according to gender and school year. These results support gender difference in the interest to animals and plants and suggest the decreased and specialized interest with school year. The Big Five personality traits excluding neuroticism were positively related with the interest to organisms and the identified groups showed significant differences in the traits. These findings indicate that agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and openness can be significant predictors of the interests to animals and plants.

In the buying situation, Group 1 prioritized fashion & conformity-oriented and brand-oriented criteria but regarded other-directed and aesthetic as less important than other groups did. Group 2 considered that all of the clothing selection criteria were important except practical. "The were six factors in the clothing image: elegance, simple, ethnic, masculine, active, and modem. The result showed a significant difference between groups in preferred clothing images. Group 2 liked most of the clothing images but group 3 did not. Group 3 preferred simple clothing image more than masculine or ethnic ones. • Background: Workplace victimization is considered a major social stressor with significant implications for the wellbeing of employees and organizations. The aim of this study was to examine the influences of employees' personality traits and organizational politics on workplace victimization among Ghanaian employees. Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 631 employees selected from diverse occupations through convenience sampling. Data collection tools were standardized questionnaires that measured experiences of negative acts at work (victimization), the Big Five personality traits, and organizational politics. Results: The results from hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that among the personality traits neuroticism and conscientiousness had significant, albeit weak relationships with victimization. Organizational politics had a significant positive relationship with workplace victimization beyond employees' personality. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that compared with personal characteristics such as personality traits, work environment factors such as organizational politics have a stronger influence on the occurrence of workplace victimization.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of personality traits (Big5) of local government officials on job exhaustion. First, we examine the correlation between personal characteristics of individual employees and self-efficacy and the correlation between factors of civil servants' personality characteristics and job stress. Also, it was confirmed whether self-efficacy had a significant effect on job exhaustion and whether job stress had a significant effect on job exhaustion. In order to empirically study this research model, we held a survey based on the employees of Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The main results of this study are as follows : First, it was confirmed that sincerity among personality characteristics affects positive self-efficacy and neuroticism affects negative self-efficacy. However, it was confirmed that extroversion, affinity, and openness were not correlated with self-efficacy. Second, neuroticism has a positive influence on job stress and openness has a negative effect on job stress. However, there was no correlation between extroversion, affinity, sincerity and job stress. Third, the relationship between self-efficacy and job exhaustion turned out to give a negative effect. Finally, job stress was positively influenced by job exhaustion. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the study on personality characteristics (Big5), job stress, and job exhaustion, which have been studied based on service industries, to local government officials. The purpose of this study is to suggest job training for enhancing personality traits that can help reduce the job burden of local government officials.

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of the Big Five Aspects on psychological adjustment and the practical use of the Big Five Aspects in personality studies. Correlations between psychological adjustment(subjective well-being, life satisfaction, anxiety, depression) and the Big Five Aspects were compared to correlations between the Big Five and psychological adjustment. The results showed distinction between two aspects within each of the Big Five that major personality traits that are actually related to psychological adjustment were found. Multiple regressions were used with subjective well-being, life satisfaction, anxiety, and depression as criterion variables to investigate the effect of the Big Five Aspect on psychological adjustment and the results are as followed. Big Five Aspects accounted for 66.2% of the variance in subjective well-being and withdrawal, compassion, industriousness, enthusiasm, assertiveness, openness significantly predicted subjective well-being. Life satisfaction and depression were significantly predicted by withdrawal and enthusiasm. Withdrawal was the only variable that significantly predicted anxiety. Multiple regression also showed that withdrawal and enthusiasm were the most consistent, accountable variables in predicting overall psychological adjustment. This findings indicate that individual's personality traits played a significant role in predicting subjective well-being and mental health as consistent with past findings, and that the Big Five Aspects can offer more detailed and specific description than the Big Five can. Finally, the research discusses implications, limitations and suggestions for further studies.

  • This study investigated how the big five personality traits among clinical laboratory science students affect their levels of academic satisfaction and verified the mediating effect of career preparation in the context of these personality traits influencing academic satisfaction. A total of 300 college students attending a 3-year college in Daegu were surveyed, and 260 were analyzed. SPSS 22.0 was used for statistical analysis while Baron and Kenny (1986)'s three step method was carried out for basic analysis, correlation analysis, and verification of the mediating effect of the collected data. Results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the correlation analysis between variables shows that extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness among the big five personality traits had significant positive relationships with academic satisfaction and career preparation while neuroticism showed a significant negative relation with academic satisfaction and no significant relation with career preparation. Secondly, the mediating effect verification found that extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, but not neuroticism, had significant mediating effects; extroversion especially was confirmed to have a complete mediating effect. Thus, methods are needed to improve academic satisfaction and career preparation in college.

  • Analyzing the 2009 Korean General Social Survey(KGSS), this study attempts to elucidate the mechanism how content-irrelevant response patterns are formed in the social survey. This study investigates the relationship between personality traits and response styles. Specifically, the effects of Big Five factors(extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness to experience) of personality on the acquiescent response styles(ARS) and extreme response styles(ERS) are examined, controlling for individual characteristics and interview contexts. The results show that ERS is positively affected by extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, whereas ARS is not significantly associated with any dimension of personality traits. The implications of findings and the methods to reduce response bias are discussed.
