  • Inpatients are mostly occupied in bed with restricted activity, nearly all patient populations are at risk for the occurrence of skeletal muscle atrophy due to decreased level of activity. Restriction of mobility is far greater in pediatric patients compared with adult patients since almost all the activities of daily living is performed by parents or caregivers. It could be assumed that pediatric patients are more vulnerable to skeletal muscle atrophy than adult patients, however, there have been no attempts to reduce the atrophy of developing muscle. Therefore it is important to determine the effect of exercise in developing muscle during decreased activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of periodic weight support during hindlimb suspension on the mass and cross-sectional area of Type I and II fibers in developing soleus(Type I ) muscle. To examine the effectiveness of periodic weight support activity in maintaining mass and fiber size. the hindlimb of young female Wistar rats was suspended(HS) and half of these rats walked on a treadmill for 45min / day(15min every 4h) at 5m / min at a 15 grade(HS-WS). After 7days of hindlimb suspension, soleus wet weight was 28. 57% smaller and relative soleus weight was 28. 21% smaller in comparison with con-trol rats (p〈0.05) Soleus wet weight and relative soleus weight increased by 67.72% and 71.43% each with periodic weight support activity during hindlimb suspension (p〈0.01, p〈0.005), moreover soleus wet weight and relative soleus weight of the HS -WS rats were greater than those of the control group. No change was observed in fiber type percentage of the developing soleus muscle after 1 week of hindlimb suspension plus weight support activity. Type I and II fiber cross-sectional areas of the developing soleus muscle were 50.45% and 43.39% lower in the HS group than in the control group (p〈0.0001), type I and II fiber cross-sectional areas of the developing soleus were 24.49% and 29.93% greater in the HS - WS group than in the HS rats (p〈0.0001), whereas Type I and II fiber cross-sectional areas of HS - WS group were less than those of the control group, The results suggest that periodic weight support activity can ameliorate developing soleus muscle atrophy induced by hindlimb suspension, even in type II fibers that would not have been expected to be recruited by this type of neuromuscular demand. Clinical experimental study is needed to deter-mine the effect of periodic weight bearing exercise on developing atrophied leg muscle based on these results.

  • Long-term performance of the enthalpy exchange element is a topic of current interest due to the concern of possible performance degradation over time. In this study, a 350 CMH enthalpy recovery ventilator equipped with an enthalpy exchange element was installed in an office room, and the performance has been traced over the past 5 years. The appearance, overall dimension, thermal performance, leakage ratio and anti-bacterial performance were checked annually. Results showed that the change in thermal performance (sensible, latent and enthalpy efficiency) was negligible with periodic cleaning with an air gun. However, the leakage ratio increased with time, measuring 7.3% after 5 years. Anti-bacterial test revealed that no bacteria were found during the test period. The largest change in the dimension occurred at the middle location of the element, although the change was less than 2% of the initial value.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the change in evacuation time at high schools according to the change in hallway width using an evacuation simulation program and to analyze the result of such change. In order to measure the evacuation time according to the change in the hallway width according to the 「Rules on the Standards for Evacuation and Fire Protection Structures of Buildings」 and to analyze the change in evacuation time resulted from the increase in the number of occupants, a scenario was constructed by applying the 「performance-oriented design method and standard for firefighting facilities, etc.」. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the evacuation time was the shortest when the width of the hallway was the widest, which was 3m. On the other hand, the evacuation time took the longest at 1.8m, which was the width of the second narrowest hallway. For the safety of high school students who spend a lot of time at school, it is necessary to secure a wide hallway width when building a new school or to provide periodic safety education in the case of an existing school whose hallways are considered narrow.

  • This study investigated whether there was a difference of the change in perspective of the nature of science depending on subjects of the history of science, after designing for two kinds of topics of role play programs based on the history of science to be transformed into a modern perspective. Before the history of science-role plays, the degree of the modern perspective was statistically no difference between group I(the atomic model transition-role play) and group II(the Mendeleev's periodic table-role play). However after treatment of the history of science-role plays for the each group, the degree of group I was higher than the degree of group II in the modern perspective. The results of this study indicate that the degree of changes into modern perspective of the nature of science by performing a history of science-role play may be depend on the subject of the history of science combined with the role play, and suggest the possibility that may be more effective to change the nature of science into the modern perspective, in case of performing of role play based on the history of science that includes the scientific knowledge established by a number of scientists with time series.

  • For the solution of population problem, a population education is urgently need since family member size(that is population size) will be on the decrease fro the reason of changes in family consciousness by population education. The population education should be carried out interdisciplinary, but, above all, home economics is more suitable to the population education. In this study, the issues are the contents of population education in relation to family relations of home economics. Those contents are as follows: 1. A change in family consciousness through the value of child 1) Conventional value of child 2) Criticism about conventional value of child 3) Current value of child 4) Desirable number of children 2. A change in family consciousness through the preparation for one's declining years 1) Analysis of periodic family life cycle by number of children 2) Desirable number of children 3. A change in family consciousness through the parental responsibility 1) Mental responsibility 2) Physical responsibility 3) Economics responsibility 4. A change in family consciousness through the relationship between parents and children 1) Conventional relationship 2) Current relationship 3) Desirable relationship 5. A change in family consciousness through the relationship between husband and wife 1) Conventional relationship 2) Current relationship 3) Effects of children on the relationship of husband and wife By the above contents of population education in the field of family relations of home economics parents will have their deliberate plans and aims.

  • This paper presents a learning controller for repetitive gait control of biped walking robot. We propose the iterative learning control algorithm which can learn periodic nonlinear load change ocuured according to the walking period through the iterative learning, not calculating the complex dynamics of walking robot. The learning control scheme consists of a feedforward learning rule and linear feedback control input for stabilization of learning system. The feasibility of learning control to biped robotic motion is shown via dynamic simulation with 12-DOF biped walking robot.

  • Severe storms are frequently generated in winter along coasts on the Japan Sea side, which are developed by strong northwestern wind caused by periodic passages of low-pressure systems across the sea. The winter storm generally persists for several days, generating strong winds and large waves from northwest. During the storm, strong alongshore currents are also observed in the offshore region, which may continue to flow over a couple of days. (omitted)

  • This paper presents a discriminating algorithm between magnetizing inrush and internal faults of transformers using difference of a differential current. Incase of inrush, change of magnetizing inductance repeats. Thus, second difference of differential current periodically shows pulse while periodic pulse is not represented in case of internal winding fault. The proposed algorithm is suitable irrespective of the amount of remanent flux.

  • A separable minimal surface is represented by the form of f(x) + g(y) + h(z) = 0, where f, g and h are real-valued functions of x, y and z, respectively. We provide exact equations for separable minimal surfaces with elliptic functions that are singly, doubly and triply periodic minimal surfaces and completely classify all them. In particular, parameters in the separable minimal surfaces change the shape of the surfaces, such as fundamental periods and its limit behavior, within the form f(x) + g(y) + h(z) = 0.
