An experimental study on the tensile performance of joints depending on joint type (접합부 형태에 따른 접합부 인장성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In complex waterproofing method, the stability of the joint is an important factor. The joints should not be broken for repeated movements and tensile forces. Therefore, we tried to confirm the stability of joints in newly developed joints and general joints. Repeated fatigue resistance performance tests and joint tensile strength tests were carried out on four types of joints. The fatigue resistance performance test showed no abnormality in all four types. It was confirmed that the newly developed top-down joint has higher stiffness than existing joints.

  • This paper describes insulation design and its reliability evaluation of ${\pm}80kV$ HVDC XLPE cable. Recently, the construction of HVDC transmission system, which is combined overhead line with underground cable, has been completed. This system is installed with existing 154 kV AC transmission line on the same tower. In this paper, the lightning transient analysis is firstly reviewed for selection of basic impulse insulation level and nominal insulation thickness. Then the electrical performance tests including load cycle test and superimposed impulse test based on CIGRE TB 496 are performed to evaluate the reliability of newly designed HVDC cable. There is no breakdown for ${\pm}80kV$ HVDC XLPE cable during electrical performance test. Finally, this system is installed in Jeju island based on successful electrical performance test (Type test). After installation tests are also successfully completed.

Experimentally evaluating the seismic retrofitting of square engineered cementitious composite columns using CFRP

  • The present experimental study evaluated the seismic performance of six engineered cementitious composite (ECC) columns strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates under cyclic lateral loading. The ECC columns damaged and crushed in the first stage of cyclic tests were repaired using the ECC with a certain polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and strengthened with flexural and sheer CFRP laminates and then re-assessed under the cyclic loading. The effects of some variables were examined on lateral displacement, energy absorption and dissipation, failure modes, crack patterns, load bearing capacity and plasticity, and the obtained results were compared with those of the first stage of cyclic tests. The results showed that retrofitting the ECC columns can improve their performance, plasticity and load-bearing threshold, delayed the concrete failure, changed the failure modes and increased the energy absorbed by the strengthened columns element by over 50%.

  • This paper describes a study of performance prediction of an electric propulsion system for multirotor UAVs. The electric propulsion system consists of motors, propellers, batteries and speed controllers, and significantly affects performance characteristics of the platform. The performance of the electric propulsion system for multirotor UAVs was predicted using an analytical model derived from the characteristics of each component, operation experiments and statistical analyses. Ground performance tests and endurance flights were performed to verify the reliability of the proposed performance prediction method. A quadrotor platform was designed to demonstrate the parcel delivery service used in the endurance flight. From the result of verification tests, it was confirmed that the proposed method has a good agreement.

  • Robust analogues of the likelihood ratio test are considered for testing of hypotheses involving multiple discrete distributions. The test statistics are generalizations of the Hellinger deviance test of Simpson(1989) and disparity tests of Lindsay(1994), obtained by looking at a 'penalized' version of the distances; harris and Basu (1994) suggest that the penalty be based on reweighting the empty cells. The results show that often the tests based on the ordinary and penalized distances enjoy better robustness properties than the likelihood ratio test. Also, the tests based on the penalized distances are improvements over those based on the ordinary distances in that they are much closer to the likelihood ratio tests at the null and their convergence to the x$^2$ distribution appears to be dramatically faster; extensive simulation results show that the improvement in performance of the tests due to the penalty is often substantial in small samples.

  • This paper explains environmental tests of vessel-launched missiles, verifying if a fully assembled missile performs properly from disturbance on delivery by vehicles or naval vessels. We also have operated vibration tests by ground and naval transportation as well as shock tests by naval transportation before firing. The environmental tests have adopted Military Standard Specification and confirmed missile's reliability by performance tests, followed by missile's development. However, this significant testing which have meaning was dong by the missile's body and not with parts.

Nonparametric two sample tests for scale parameters of multivariate distributions

  • In this paper, a notion of data depth is used to propose nonparametric multivariate two sample tests for difference between scale parameters. Data depth can be used to measure the centrality or outlying-ness of the multivariate data point relative to data cloud. A difference in the scale parameters indicates the difference in the depth values of a multivariate data point. By observing this fact on a depth vs depth plot (DD-plot), we propose nonparametric multivariate two sample tests for scale parameters of multivariate distributions. The p-values of these proposed tests are obtained by using Fisher's permutation approach. The power performance of these proposed tests has been reported for few symmetric and skewed multivariate distributions with the existing tests. Illustration with real-life data is also provided.

Clinical Evaluation for System Performance of Image Intensifiers (상강화기의 임상평가)

  • The image intensifier is the key component which determines the imaging characteristics in a fluoroscopic imaging system. A system performance program for clinical evaluation of two image intensifiers, that is simple, non-invasive and time effective, was described. Tests were grouped into three headings: x-ray generator, image quality, and collimation. For the x-ray generator, the kVp accuracy and the automatic exposure control operation were compared. Low- and high-contrast resolution measurements, and mesh pattern study belong to the image quality tests and those tests were performed for the video monitor and photospot images. For the collimation, usable field diameter and image distortion of image intensifiers were measured and quantified. The procedures and the results are hoped to be used for the clinical evaluation of system performance and/or acceptance tests for image intensifiers.

Comparison of Combustion Performance between Single Injector Combustor and Sub-scale Combustor (액체로켓엔진 연소기용 단일 분사기 연소기와 축소형 연수고 수류/연소시험 결과 비교)

  • This paper describes the results of cold flow test and hot firing tests of an uni-element coaxial swirl injector and hot firing tests of a subscale combustor, as to the development effort of coaxial swirl injector for high performance liquid rocket engine combustor. A major design parameter for coaxial swirl injector is the recess number of a bi-swirl injector. The results of hot firing tests of the uni-element injector combustor and the sub-scale combustor are analyzed to investigate the effect of the recess number influencing on the combustion performance and pressure fluctuation. The test results of a cold flow test of the unielement combustor shows that it was shown that the change in recess number has significant effect on mixing characteristics and efficiency, while the effect of recess number on atomization characteristic is not The results of a series of firing tests using unielement and subscale combustor show that the recess length significantly affects the hydraulic characteristics, the combustion efficiency, and the dynamics of the liquid oxygen/kerosene bi-swirl injector. As a point of combustion performance, combustion efficiencies are 90% for unielement combustor and 95% for subscale combustor. The difference in the characteristic velocities between the unielement combustor and the subscale combustor may be caused by the difference in thermal loss to the combustor wall and the relative lengths of the combustion chamber. For a mixed type coaxial swirl combustor, the pressure drop across the injector increases as recess number becomes larger. The low frequency pressure fluctuation observed in unielement combustor can be related to the propellant mixing characteristics of the coaxial bi-swirl injector. The effect of the recess number on the pressure fluctuation inside the combustion chamber is more significant in un i-element combustor than the subscale combustor, of which the phenomena are also observed in time domain and frequency domain.

Numerical analysis of the seismic performance of RHC-PVCT short columns

  • This paper presents the results of cyclic loading tests on new high-strength concrete (HC) short columns. The seismic performance and deformation capacity of three reinforced high-strength concrete filled Polyvinyl Chloride tube (RHC-PVCT) short columns and one reinforced high-strength concrete (RHC), under pseudo-static tests (PSTs) with vertical axial force was evaluated. The main design parameters of the columns in the tests were the axial compression ratio, confinement type, concrete strength, height-diameter ratio of PVCT. The failure modes, hysteretic curves, skeleton curves of short columns were presented and analyzed. Placing PVCT in the RHC column could be remarkably improved the ultimate strength and energy dissipation of columns. However, no fiber element models have been formulated for computing the seismic responses of RHC-PVCT columns with PVT tubes filled with high-strength concrete. Nonlinear finite element method (FEM) was conducted to predict seismic behaviors. Finite element models were verified through a comparison of FEM results with experimental results. A parametric study was then performed using validated FEM models to investigate the effect of several parameters on the mechanical properties of RHC-PVCT short columns. The parameters study indicated that the concrete strength and the ratio of diameter to height affected the seismic performance of RHC-PVCT short column significantly.
