  • Grounding grid design of substation and power generating plant has been conducted based on IEEE Std 80 or 665, which provides simple formula to estimate grounding performance such as grounding resistance, max. step and touch voltage. Although these formula are applicable for many situations, they contains many assumptions and consequent limits of application. This paper shows the limits of IEEE formula and the virtue of estimating grounding performance of grid using numerical method or computer program.

  • Most large commercial aircrafts and high performance military aircrafts use fly-by-wire (FBW) or fly-by-light systems to improve their controllability, comfort, and safety. A flight envelope protection technique is used with flight control systems utilizing the FBW technique. Such flight envelope protection systems prevent these aircraft from exceeding the structural/aerodynamic limits and control their surface limits. This is accomplished by predicting the values of the future state variables and adaptively compensating the control action. In this study, the conventional dynamic trim algorithm of the flight envelope protection is modified to increase the method accuracy and to handle cases with multiple variables. Numerical simulation is also performed to verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm in formulating a performance index for contingency selection method considering voltage security. Security limits defined-in terms of real power line flows and voltage magnitudes are considered in normalized subspaces where in critical contingencies are identified by a filtering algorithm using the infinite norm. Two types of limits, warning limit and emergency limit, are introduced for voltage and line flow. Usually performance indices have been constructed for real power line flows and voltages with each different criterion. This paper, however, presents a method that constructs them with the same criterion in use of the norm properties, so that we can assess security considering both of them. Rapid contingency simulation is performed using one iteration of fast decoupled load flows with LMML(Inverse Matrix Modification Lemma).

  • In this study, we establish bootstrap control limits for EWMA chart by applying the bootstrap method, called resampling, which could not demand assumptions about pre-distribution when the process is skewed and/or the normality assumption is doubt. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows : bootstrap EWMA control chart is developed for applying bootstrap method to EWMA chart, which is more sensitive to small shifts of process. With the purpose of eliminating a skewness of the resampling distribution, the bootstrap control limits are established by using a modified residual, and its performance is analyzed by ARL. It is shown that the bootstrap EWMA control chart developed in this study includes the properties of standard EWMA control chart that is sensitive to a small shift, and detects process in out of control more quickly than standard EWMA chart.

  • This paper pay attention to silent puppets which appear in the traditional puppet performance. Not only movement of silent puppets which are involved with expression of body of the mime, but also various methods overcome limits of the silent are studied in this paper. Through the study of performance method and historic unfolding aspects, I confirm two main points. First point is that overcome limits of the silent, through the diversity of performance aspects. Second point is that silent puppets have been existed since the early stage of history, and show typical unfolding aspects on their way. Combining two main points, We can say that silent puppets go through continuous unfolding aspects on their way and have meaning of existence. The meaning of existence are that silent puppets seek deviant desire which deviate from everyday life and transcendental desire which seek a freedom through an imagination or an idea. It is interesting that the reasons of existence are associated with the emphasis of necessity which is encouragement of audience's desire and imagination that are necessary of accomplish of mime. After all, silent puppets say that diverse attempts which overcome limits of the silent are accomplished with the performance aspects and historic unfolding aspects, and through that sought unusual communication. Through the performance methods and signification aspects, silent puppets say that diverse groping for which maximize of audience's imagination, stimulation of imagination for audience's spontaneousness, and diverse groping for audience mind performance have been performanced as well. I think that those are the voice of silent puppets for activity of mime in the korea.

  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the connections of the seismic-performance values for domestic-performance-based designs. Basic research on the performance design method has been increasing of late, along with performance-based organization investigations. These investigations concern the performance level state of steel structure buildings. According to the performance limit state, seismic-performance values should be presented as appropriate steel structure engineering amounts. The first step, based on the full-scale steel structure experiments, involves researching on the making of a basic document. The moment-rotation angle relationship results of the experiment on the moment-frame connection were used to assort the functional and undamaged limits, which were assumed to be less than the yield moment. Moreover, the repairable and safety limits, which were assumed to exist between the yield and maximum moments, were assorted by investigating the accumulated plastic deformation ratio.

  • Purpose: This paper introduces new 2-of-3 main and supplementary runs rules to increase the performance of the classical $\bar{X}$ control chart for detecting small process shifts. Methods: The proposed runs rules are compared with other competitive runs rules by numerical experiments. Nonlinear optimization problem to minimize the out-of-control ARL at a specified shift of process mean for determining action and warning limits at a time is formulated and a procedure to find two limits is illustrated with a numerical example. Results: The proposed 2-of-3 main and supplementary runs rules demonstrate an improved performance over other runs rules in detecting a sudden shift of process mean by simultaneous changes of mean and standard deviation. Conclusion: To increase the performance in the detection of small to moderate shifts, the proposed runs rules will be used with $\bar{X}$ control charts.

  • To protect digital communications and broadcasting that are expected to be increasingly used at frequencies above 1GHz, there is a need to determine permissible disturbance limits for frequency bands above 1GHz according to indicates that better correlates with interference level in digital systems. The quality of digital communications is expressed in terms of bit error rate(BER) or throughput. In this regard, it has been reported that degradation of BER or throughput can be estimated from the amplitude probability distribution (APD) of disturbance amplitude. Therefore, if the APD can simply be measured with a high accuracy, APD will be an optimal index for the assessment of interference in digital communications. In this paper, we show that a measurement method using statistic model of APD has compatibility about performance reduction estimation of WLAN. And through approach of this inspection, we propose numeral models about interference effects of peak value and time rate of spurious.

  • Statistical analysis has found useful application in the design of experiments (DOE) especially optimization of concrete ingredients however, to be able to apply the concept properly using computer aided applications there has to be an upper and lower limits of responses fed to the system. In this study, the production of high-performance steel fiber concrete (HPSFC) at five different fiber addition levels by volume with two aspect ratios of 60 and 83 were studied under two curing methods completely dry cured (DC) and moist cured (MC) conditions. In other words, this study was carried out for those limits based on material properties available in North Cyprus. Specimens utilized were cubes 100 mm size casted and cured for 28 days and tested for compressive strength. Minitab 18 statistical software was utilized for the analysis of results at a 5 per cent level of significance. Experimentally, it was observed that, there was fluctuation in compressive strength results for the two aspect ratios and curing regimes. On the other hand P-value hypothesis evaluation of the response showed that at the stated level of significance, there was a statistically significant difference between dry and moist curing conditions. Upper and lower limit values were proposed for the response to be utilized in DOE for future studies based on these material properties. It was also suggested that for a narrow confidence interval and accuracy of the system, future study should increase the sample size.

  • Aiming at studying the plastic hinge (PH) evolution regularities and failure mode of rocking wall moment frame (RWMF) structure in earthquakes, the whole-working history analysis of seismic performance state of RWMF structure based on co-operation performance and PH evolution was carried out. Building upon the theoretical analysis of the elastic internal forces and deformations of RWMF structures, nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) methods were employed to perform both Pushover analysis and seismic response time history analysis under different seismic coefficients (δ). The relationships among PH occurrence ratios (Rph), inter-story drifts and δ were established. Based on the plotted curve of the seismic performance states, evaluation limits for the Rph and inter-story drifts were provided for different performance states of RWMF structures. The results indicate that the Rph of RWMF structures exhibits a nonlinear evolution trend of "fast at first, then slow" with the increasing of δ. The general pattern is characterized by the initial development of beam hinges in the middle stories, followed by the development towards the top and bottom stories until the beam hinges are fully formed. Subsequently, the development of column hinges shifts from the bottom and top stories towards the middle stories of the structure, ultimately leading to the loss of seismic lateral capacity with a failure mode of partial beam yield, demonstrating a global yielding pattern. Moreover, the limits for the Rph and inter-story drifts effectively evaluate the five different performance states of RWMF structures.
