  • Probabilistic modeling and analysis of correlation metrics have been receiving considerable interest for a long period of time because they can be used to evaluate the performance of communication receivers, including satellite broadcasting receivers. Although differential correlators have a simple structure and practical importance over channels with severe frequency offsets, closedform expressions for the output distribution of differential correlators do not exist. In this paper, we present detection error probability expressions for frame synchronization using differential correlation, and demonstrate their accuracy over channel parameters of practical interest. The derived formulas are presented in terms of the Marcum Q-function, and do not involve numerical integration, unlike the formulas derived in some previous studies. We first determine the distributions and error probabilities for single-span differential correlation metric, and then extend the result to multispan differential correlation metric with certain approximations. The results can be used for the performance analysis of various detection strategies that utilize the differential correlation structure.

  • This paper proposes the architecture of high-performance Viterbi decoder circuit. The proposed circuit does not require additional memory to calculate the branch metrics because it uses the characteristics of the branch data. The speed of the Viterbi decoder circuit is increased up to 75% by rearranging the path metric data in SRAM and registers properly for fast add-compare-select operations. We described the proposed Viterbi decoder circuit in Verilog HDL and synthesized the gate-level circuit using 130nm standard cell library. The synthesized circuit consists of 8,858 gates and its maximum operating frequency is 130MHz.

  • Enormous methods have been proposed for the detection and segmentation of blur and non-blur regions of the images. Due to the limited available information about the blur type, scenario and the level of blurriness, detection and segmentation is a challenging task. Hence, the performance of the blur measure operators is an essential factor and needs improvement to attain perfection. In this paper, we propose an effective blur measure based on the local binary pattern (LBP) with the adaptive threshold for blur detection. The sharpness metric developed based on LBP uses a fixed threshold irrespective of the blur type and level which may not be suitable for images with large variations in imaging conditions and blur type and level. Contradictory, the proposed measure uses an adaptive threshold for each image based on the image and the blur properties to generate an improved sharpness metric. The adaptive threshold is computed based on the model learned through the support vector machine (SVM). The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a well-known dataset and compared with five state-of-the-art methods. The comparative analysis reveals that the proposed method performs significantly better qualitatively and quantitatively against all the methods.

  • Noise predictive maximum likelihood(NPML) detector embeds noise prediction/whitening process in branch metric calculation of Viterbi detector and improves the reliability of branch metric computation. Therefore, PRML detector with a noise predictor achieves some performance improvement and has an advantage of low complexity. This thesis random sequences are applied to linear channel. In perpendicular magnetic recording density KP=2.5, NP(121)ML and NP(1221)ML detection system which is based on a noise predictive PR-equalized signal are evaluated by the Performance through a computing simulation. Therefore, NPML systems are implemented and are verified by VHDL.

  • This paper explores the significance and implications of fixed point results related to orbital contraction as a novel form of contraction in various fields. Theoretical developments and theorems provide a solid foundation for understanding and utilizing the properties of orbital contraction, showcasing its efficacy through numerous examples and establishing stability and convergence properties. The application of orbital contraction in control systems proves valuable in designing resilient and robust control strategies, ensuring reliable performance even in the presence of disturbances and uncertainties. In the realm of financial modeling, the application of fixed point results offers valuable insights into market dynamics, enabling accurate price predictions and facilitating informed investment decisions. The practical implications of fixed point results related to orbital contraction are substantiated through empirical evidence, numerical simulations, and real-world data analysis. The ability to identify and leverage fixed points grants stability, convergence, and optimal system performance across diverse applications.

  • Preamble based synchronization result in performance degradation due to the high time variation in the power delay profile of the channel in fast varying channel. Since most of the timing metric that exploit the preamble is not based on theoretical back ground, it is not easy to find out the reason. In this paper, the behavior of the timing metric in the multipath fading channel is explained.

  • TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) has soft decision scheme so that BM(Branch Metric) calculates the ED(Euclidean Distance) between the received signal and each code words in signal space. For computing the ED, square and square root computations increase the hardware complexity. Some simplified method is known for convolutional codes with QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), PSK(Phase Shift Keying) modulation. But it is not acceptable for QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation)-TCM scheme. In this paper, we suggest that two modified BM computation methods, which is applicable for QAM-TCM. By comparative study, we also assessed two proposed method in the case of hardware complexity and BER (Bit Error Rate) performance.

  • Multiuser detection can significantly increase system capacity and improve service quality compared with the existing matched filter. In this paper, we introduce an method which efficiently calculates the maximum likelihood (ML) metric based on the gradient search (GS). The ML detection needs user powers as well as their spreading codes. A method is also proposed that allows us to detect data bits with the estimation of user powers when they are unknown. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method can nearly achieve the same performance as the GS with perfectly hewn user powers.

  • Untethered nodes in mobile ad-hoc networks strongly depend on the efficient use of their batteries. In this paper, we propose a new metric, the drain rate, to forecast the lifetime of nodes according to current traffic conditions. This metric is combined with the value of the remaining battery capacity to determine which nodes can be part of an active route. We describe new route selection mechanisms for MANET routing protocols, which we call the Minimum Drain Rate (MDR) and the Conditional Minimum Drain Rate (CMDR). MDR extends nodal battery life and the duration of paths, while CMDR also minimizes the total transmission power consumed per packet. Using the ns-2 simulator and the dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol, we compare MDR and CMDR against prior proposals for power-aware routing and show that using the drain rate for power-aware route selection offers superior performance results.

  • In this paper, we propose a CIECAM02-based color edge detection method. The proposed method detects color edges with distance metric based on the characteristics of Human Visual System (HVS). The CIECAM02 is inherently strong in considering HVS. We use a vector gradient edge detector in a JCh components with newly proposed distance metric. The proposed method detect edges clearly. We subjectively confirm the performance with clearly enhanced images.
