Development of a Performance Appraisal Tool for Postoperative Anesthesia Care Unit Nurses (회복실간호사 업무수행평가 도구 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a performance appraisal tool (PAT) for postoperative anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses. Methods: This study was a descriptive, non-experimental methodological study. The PAT was developed through a literature review and tests for validity and reliability. Results: Subsequent to a review of the literature on nursing performance of PACU nurse, a 63 item questionnaire was developed. Through factor analysis, 61 items in 3 domains with 8 factors were derived. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient of the final instrument was .99. Conclusion: This tool is an efficient PAT for PACU providing meaningful feedback for professional growth in PACU nurses.

  • This paper describes domestic technical standard of Photovoltaic(PV) PCS(Power Conditioning Systems)-Characteristics of the utility interface. This standard tests utility compatibility and personnel safety and equipment protection of PV inverter performance functions. Especially utility compatibility part includes test items of 1)voltage, current and frequency, 2)normal voltage operating range, 3)DC injection, 4)normal frequency operating range, 5)harmonics and 6)waveform distortion, 7)power factor of PV inverter. Therefore in this paper each test item of domestic technical standard is studied and analyzed and finally full tested by PV inverter performance function.

Economic Design of a Two-Sided Two-Stage Screening Procedure with a Prescribed Outgoing Quality

  • An economic two-stage screening procedure is presented when both lower and upper specification limits are given on the performance variable. A screening variable which is highly correlated with the performance variable is used first to decide whether an item should be accepted, rejected, or undecided. The performance variable is then used to classify the undecided items. The two variables are assumed to be jointly normally distributed. A cost model is constructed on the basis of six cost components; inspection costs of screening and performance variables and costs caused by type I and type II misclassification errors related with lower and upper specification limits. Optimal cutoff values on the screening variable are determined so that the average outgoing quality exceeds a prespecified level. Solution methods are provided for both known-parameter and unknown-parameter cases.

  • Performance assessment has Problems about possibilities of assessment fault by appraisal, fairness, reliability, and validity of grading, ambiguity of grading standard, difficulty about objectivity security etc. This study proposes fuzzy Performance assessment system to solve problem of the conventional performance assessment. This Paper presented an objective and reliable performance assessment method through fuzzy reasoning, design fuzzy membership function and define fuzzy rule analyzing factor that influence in each sacred ground of performance assessment to account principle subject. Also, performance assessment item divides by formation estimation and subject estimation and designed membership function in proposed performance assessment method. Performance assessment result that is worked through fuzzy Performance assessment system can pare down burden about appraisal's fault and provide fair and reliable assessment result through grading that have correct standard and consistency to students.

Difference Between Nursing Demand and Perceived Nursing Performance in Hemodialysis Patients (혈액투석 환자의 간호요구도와 지각된 간호수행도 차이)

  • Purpose: In the present study, the difference in patients' nursing demands and nursing performance as perceived by the patients was examined. Methods: The participants were 272 patients on maintenance hemodialysis at five university hospitals. Nursing need and nursing performance were measured using the tool developed by Lee for this study. Results: The mean score for nursing demand was 3.35 points out of 4. The scores were higher for participants with middle school graduation or less, those not professing religion, and those whose medical insurance was of the medicaid type. The mean score for perceived nursing performance was 3.22 points out of 4. Nursing performance as perceived by hemodialysis patients was lower than nursing demand for 22 of 28 items. The item with the largest difference between nursing performance and nursing demand was 'Give a pain-free injection', followed by 'Explain about insurance benefits and supports' and 'Maintain quiet environment in the hemodialysis unit enabling rest during hemodialysis'. Conclusion: The results show that nursing performance as perceived by hemodialysis patients was lower than nursing demand. This result indicates a need to develop appropriate strategies to enhance nursing performance, especially for items that showed low nursing performance.

Recognition and Utility Properties of Menu Development Derived from the Performance of Food Styling for Cooks in a Super Deluxe Hotel (특1급 호텔 조리사의 푸드 스타일링 수행현황에 따른 메뉴개발 인식 및 활용속성)

  • This study surveyed the performance of food styling and recognition and utility properties of menu development for cooks in a super deluxe hotel. The questionnaires developed for this study were distributed to 400 males and females aged 20 and over. A total of 375 questionnaires were used for analysis (93.8%), and statistical analysis was completed using SPSS (version 14.0) for descriptive analysis and ${\chi}^2$-test. The most important item in food styling was 'harmony of food shape' (40.2%), and second ranked was 'harmony of food color' (23.4%). The most difficult item in food styling was 'lack of professional knowledge' (38.3%) followed by 'lack of creativity' (27.7%). In recognition of menu development, the importance of menu development and promotion was 3.82, and personal satisfaction after menu development was 3.29. Important items in menu development were 'taste' (41.8%) and 'use of new ingredient' (28.5%). When using newly developed menu, the ratio of selling new menu was '30~50%' at 42.7%, and the average selling period of new menu was '3~6 months' at 40.5%. For the effect of new menu on sales, 94.1% were aware of this effect, and to actively promote menu development, 'providing incentive' (35.7%), 'training in/out of country' (20.8%), 'self motivation' (17.3%), 'financial support' (14.7%), and 'motive' (11.5%) were all necessary requirements. In order to improve cooking performance, continued education on food styling and menu development along with the company's full support are required. Further, thorough training of employees is needed along with a high quality incentive policy needs to be done. In addition, to make the new menu profitable, an active marketing strategy must be employed, which will require further study.

Reliability and Validity of Korean Version of FACIT-dyspnea 10 Item Short Form in Patients With Cancer (암 환자에 대한 한국어판 FACIT-호흡곤란 10개 항목 단축형 설문지의 신뢰도와 타당도 분석)

  • Background: The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) for Dyspnea was developed to assess multidimensional dyspnea using two subscales (experience of dyspnea and functional limitation) and a total score. Objects: This study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the FACIT-dyspnea 10-item short form questionnaire (FACIT-dyspnea-K). Methods: Subjects were 163 patients with cancer. Dyspnea-related scales (modified Medical Research Council scale [mMRC], European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 [EORTC QLQ-C30], Hospital Anxiety and Depression [HAD], and WHO Performance Scale) were used to validate the FACIT-dyspnea-K. Results: Internal consistency was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha values of 0.90 and 0.95 in factors 1 and 2, respectively. Convergence validity was determined by comparing the two factors and total score of the FACIT-dyspnea-K with conceptually related assessment tools measuring the physical and emotional effects of dyspnea, with which correlations ranged from 0.364 to 0.567. Criterion validity was established by significant differences in the FACIT-dyspnea-K score between groups when the patients were classified by performance status as assessed by the WHO performance scale. Furthermore, the FACIT-dyspnea-K showed notable correlations with other dyspnea scales (mMRC, EORTC QLQ-C30, and HAD) for cancer patients (r = 0.28 to 0.54). The test-retest reliability of the two factors and total score of the FACIT-dyspnea-K appeared to be excellent (Cronbach's alpha = 0.96 to 0.97). Conclusion: This study supports FACIT-dyspnea-K as a valid and reliable instrument to assess the dyspnea experience of cancer patients in clinical settings.

Gender differences in Korean elementary students: An analysis of TIMSS 2011 and 2015 fourth grade mathematics assessment (한국 초등학생들의 성차: TIMSS 2011 2015 수학 학업성취도 평가를 통한 분석)

  • This study examined Korean fourth-grade students' performance by gender on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study(TIMSS) 2011 and 2015 mathematics assessment. We first identified items which had significantly higher mean scores by gender to decide which gender did better on a certain domain(domain-level analysis). Then, we examined the content of items(item-level analysis) to understand which items lead to gender differences in mathematics achievement. Our findings showed that about 80% of the items on both assessments did not show statistically significant differences between males and females. However, there were meaningful gender differences in the other 20% items. On both assessments, females had more items with significantly higher mean scores than males on the Shapes domain, and males had more those items on the Numbers and Measurement domains and all cognitive domains(Knowing, Applying, and Reasoning). In particular, females outperformed males on items related to identifying two- and three-dimensional shapes and drawing lines and angles and identifying them. Conversely, males had higher performance than females on items related to the pre-algebraic thinking, fractions and decimals, estimation of number differences, unit of length, and measuring time, height, and volume. The effect sizes for each item ranged from .12 to .33 and the mean effect size of all items across both assessments was .20, which indicated significant gender differences but small.

  • Today the domestic construction industries are changing. The bigger, higher and more professional are gradually the construction industries, the faster does the fusion into the other industries also undergone. It is gradually needed to estimate the process of the project in the construction industries through this tendency. Consumers or the owner gradually reify their needs and it is essential for an objective appraisal standard to estimate the accomplishment of the project because its level is raised. In this study the problem is understood through the analysis on the existing system of construction industries and it is indicated to new performance measurement system in construction project through the analysis on the influential factors including the qualitative analysis such as consumer satisfaction.

The Effects of Preclinical Clinical Performance Examination on Nursing Students' Confidence in Nursing Skills and Critical Thinking Competence (임상실습 전 임상수행능력평가(CPX)가 간호대학생의 핵심기본간호술 자신감과 비판적 사고능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of preclinical clinical performance examination (CPX) on nursing students' confidence in their nursing skills and critical thinking competence. Methods: The design of this research was one-group pretest-posttest, and the participants were 112 nursing students. The preclinical CPX consisted of a clinical examination, patient-nurse relationship, oral test of related knowledge, written test of the nursing process, and debriefing using comprehensive scenarios based on real patient cases. The confidence of nursing skills consisted of an 8-item NRS and the critical thinking competence consisted of a 12-item 4-point scale developed by researchers and measured in both the pretest and posttest. The collected data were analyzed using paired t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The score for confidence in nursing skills (t=10.60, p<.001) and that for critical thinking competence (t=7.03, p<.001) increased significantly after preclinical CPX. Conclusion: This study showed that preclinical CPX was effective in improving nursing students' confidence in their nursing skills and critical thinking competence. Therefore, preclinical CPX is expected to be utilized in nursing practice education. Additional studies including those on control groups are recommended to compare differences between the preclinical CPX group and control group.
