In this paper, we propose an emotion recognition system that can discriminate human emotional state into neutral or anger from the speech captured by a cellular-phone in real time. In general. the speech through the mobile network contains environment noise and network noise, thus it can causes serious System performance degradation due to the distortion in emotional features of the query speech. In order to minimize the effect of these noise and so improve the system performance, we adopt a simple MA (Moving Average) filter which has relatively simple structure and low computational complexity, to alleviate the distortion in the emotional feature vector. Then a SFS (Sequential Forward Selection) feature optimization method is implemented to further improve and stabilize the system performance. Two pattern recognition method such as k-NN and SVM is compared for emotional state classification. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method provides very stable and successful emotional classification performance such as 86.5%. so that it will be very useful in application areas such as customer call-center.
Hysteretic steel damper has been applied mainly to steel buildings. However, the usage in RC buildings is rapidly increasing recently. In order to apply the steel hysteretic damper in RC buildings, supporting elements of the damper should have sufficient strength and stiffness suitable for transferring damper forces to beams and walls. But due to the inevitable damage in reinforced concrete elements due to cracking, identification of the load transfer mechanism from damper to supporting element and hysteretic characteristics of the supporting element are extremely important in evaluating the damper behavior. Experiments were carried out on connection details between RC walls and supporting elements of the steel plate typed damper such as EaSy damper. The test results showed that fracture patterns of all specimens were almost identical except in the crack number and pattern associated with shear loading condition. Among the specimens, HD-3 shoed a well distributed cracks patterns along with good performance with respect to energy dissipation capacity, stiffness deterioration, and strength degradation.
To study the working mechanism and size effect of an innovative dovetail UHPC joint originated from the 5th Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, a large-scale testing subject to negative bending moment was conducted and compared with the previous scaled specimens. The static responses, i.e., the crack pattern, failure mode, ductility and stiffness degradation were analyzed. It was found that the scaled specimens presented similar working stages and working mechanism with the large-scale ones. However, the post-cracking ductility and relative stiffness degradation all decrease with the enlarged length/scale, apart from the relative stiffness after flexural cracking. The slab stiffness at the flexural cracking stage is 90% of the initial stiffness while only 24% of the initial stiffness reserved in the ultimate stage. Finite element model (FEM) was established and compared with the experiments to verify its effectiveness in exploring the working mechanism of the innovative joint. Based on this effective method, a series of FEMs were established to further study the influence of material strength, pre-stressing level and ratio of reinforcement on its deflection-load relationship. It is found that the ratio of reinforcement can significantly improve its load-carrying capacity among the three major-influenced factors.
This study presents an experiment and analysis to compare the seismic behavior of full-scale reinforced concrete beam-column joint strengthened by prestressed steel strips, externally bonded steel plate, and CFRP sheets. For experimental investigation, five specimens, including one joint without any retrofitting, one joint retrofitted by externally bonded steel plate, one joint retrofitted by CFRP sheets, and two joints retrofitted by prestressed steel strips, were tested under cyclic-reserve loading. The failure mode, strain response, shear deformation, hysteresis behavior, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation and damage indexes of all specimens were analyzed according to experimental study. It was found that prestressed steel strips, steel plate and CFRP sheets improved shear resistance, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation behavior and reduced the shear deformation of the joint core area, as well as changed the failure pattern of the specimen, which led to the failure mode changed from the combination of flexural failure of beams and shear failure of joints core to the flexural failure of beams. In addition, the beam-column joint retrofitted by steel plate exhibited a high bearing capacity, energy consumption capacity and low damage index compared with the joint strengthened by prestressed steel strip, and the prestressed steel strips reinforced joint showed a high strength, energy dissipation capacity and low shear deformation, stirrups strains and damage index compared to the CFRP reinforced joint, which indicated that the frame joints strengthened with steel plate exhibited the most excellent seismic behavior, followed by the prestressed steel strips.

Even though extensive research results have been applied to wireless cellular systems to improve their capacity and coverage, severe performance degradation experienced in cell boundary areas still remains as a major limiting factor to prohibit further improvement of user equipment (UE) throughput. In the Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) standard of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Some advanced techniques have been introduced to overcome this "cell-edge problem", including coordinated multipoint transmission and reception (CoMP) and inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC). In this paper, we propose yet another strategy to improve the performance of low-tier UEs by using the concept of multiple beam direction patterns (BDPs). Such multiple BDPs can be implemented using multi-layer antenna arrays stacked vertically at base station (BS) sites to transmit signals in different main beam directions. In comparison to conventional three-sector antennas with a fixed beam pattern, the proposed methods makes signal transmission in a rotational fashion to significantly enhance the reception quality of UEs located near sector (or cell) edge areas, preventing the situation where certain UEs are marginally covered by the BS for the whole transmission time. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional three-sector transmission by 171% in low 5% UEs in terms of the UE throughput.

Because of the defect in design, damage in using period, and deterioration in long term exposure to severe environmental condition, degradation of performance in RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures has occurred. This paper contains durability performance evaluation in railway bridges which covers eight districts through field investigation. For the target structures, durability performance is evaluated and the critical problems in use are derived. Additionally, service lifes for the deteriorated structures are evaluated through Durability-Environment index method based on the results from field investigation, and the results are compared with those from the condition assuming the structures without defect, damage, and deterioration. The target structures which consist of RC T girder, PSC girder, RC box, and Rahmen are investigated and the critical damage patterns are derived. They are evaluated to be cracks in PSC girder end, flexural cracks in PSC girder, crack around EPT anchor, and flexural cracks in RC T girder and RC box. The reasons for the critical patterns are also investigated. This study can be utilized for the repair planning considering the different district and the structure types.

Data distribution of SPMD(Single Program Multiple Data) pattern is one of main features of HPF (High Performance Fortran). This paper describes design is sues for such data distribution and its efficient execution model on TICOM IV computer, named SPAX(Scalable Parallel Architecture computer based on X-bar network). SPAX has a hierarchical clustering structure that uses distributed shared memory(DSM). In such memory structure, it cannot make a full system utilization to apply unanimously either SMDD(shared Memory Data Distribution) or DMDD(Distributed Memory Data Distribution). Here we propose another data distribution model, called DSMDD(Distributed Shared Memory Data Distribution), a data distribution model based on hierarchical masters-slaves scheme. In this model, a remote master and slaves are designated in each node, shared address scheme is used within a node and message passing scheme between nodes. In our simulation, assuming a node size in which system performance degradation is minimized,DSMDD is more effective than SMDD and DMDD. Especially, the larger number of logical processors and the less data dependency between distributed data, the better performace is obtained.
Steel-precast ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) composite beams with demountable high-strength friction-grip bolt (HSFGB) shear connectors can be used for accelerated bridge construction (ABC) and achieve excellent structural performance, which is expected to be dismantled and recycled at the end of the service life. However, no investigation focuses on the demountability and reusability of such composite beams, as well as the installation difficulties during construction. To address this issue, this study conducted twelve push-out tests to investigate the effects of assembly condition, bolt grade, bolt-hole clearance, infilling grout and pretension on the crack pattern, failure mode, load-slip/uplift relationship, and the structural performance in terms of ultimate shear strength, friction resistance, shear stiffness and slip capacity. The experimental results demonstrated that the presented composite beams exhibited favorable demountability and reusability, in which no significant reduction in strength (less than 3%) and stiffness (less than 5%), but a slight improvement in ductility was observed for the reassembled specimens. Employing oversized preformed holes could ease the fabrication and installation process, yet led to a considerable degradation in both strength and stiffness. With filling the oversized holes with grout, an effective enhancement of the strength and stiffness can be achieved, while causing a difficulty in the demounting of shear connectors. On the basis of the experimental results, more accurate formulations, which considered the effect of bolt-hole clearance, were proposed to predict the shear strength as well as the load-slip relationship of HSFGBs in steel-precast UHPC composite beams.

Extraction and selection of the informative features play a central role in pattern recognition. This paper describes a modified back-propagation algorithm that performs selection of the informative features and trains a neural network simultaneously. The algorithm is mainly composed of three repetitive steps : training, connection pruning, and input unit elimination. Afer initial training, the connections that have small magnitude are first pruned. Any unit that has a small number of connections to the hidden units is deleted, which is equivalent to excluding the feature corresponding to that unit.If the error increases, the network is retraned, again followed by connection pruning and input unit elimination. As a result, the algorithm selects the most im-portant features in the measurement space without a transformation to another space. Also, the selected features are the most-informative ones for the classification, because feature selection is tightly coupled with the classifi-cation performance. This algorithm helps avoid measurement of redundant or less informative features, which may be expensive.Furthermore, the final network does not include redundant parameters,i.e.,weights and biases, that may cause degradation of classification performance. In applications, the algorithm preserves the most informative features and significantly reduces the dimension of the feature vectors whiout performance degradation.
The effect of reinforcing concrete members with high strength steel bars with yield strength up to 600 MPa on the overall seismic behavior of concrete moment frames was studied experimentally and numerically. Three geometrically identical plane frame models with two bays and two stories, where one frame model was reinforced with hot rolled bars (HRB) with a nominal yield strength of 335 MPa and the other two by high strength steel bars with a nominal yield strength of 600 MPa, were tested under simulated earthquake action considering different axial load ratios to investigate the hysteretic behavior, ductility, strength and stiffness degradation, energy dissipation and plastic deformation characteristics. Test results indicate that utilizing high strength reinforcement can improve the structural resilience, reduce residual deformation and achieve favorable distribution pattern of plastic hinges on beams and columns. The frame models reinforced with normal and high strength steel bars have comparable overall deformation capacity. Compared with the frame model subjected to a low axial load ratio, the ones under a higher axial load ratio exhibit more plump hysteretic loops. The proved reliable finite element analysis software DIANA was used for the numerical simulation of the tests. The analytical results agree well with the experimental results.
