  • Two dimensional diffusion model test was conducted to investigate the sedimentation properties and consolidation process of reclaimed ground using dredging coarse soil which is composed of passing amount 20 percentage and 45 percentage of #200 sieve size respectively. The passing amount of #200 sieve size affected on sedimentation properties. The coarse soil which is passing amount of 20 percent showed that the sedimentation structure was layered type and passing amount of 45 percentage was wall-partition type according diffusion distance. Furthermore, the water content of surface and section, and distribution of fine soil were changed according to diffusion distance. and the change amount of pore water pressure and strength property when soil is diffused, segregated and accumulated can be applied efficiently in design of dredging and reclamation.

  • Results of this study on the influence of percent passing of No. 200 sieve on soil compaction are as follows; 1. The higher maximum dry density of soil is, the lower optimum moisture content is. Maximum dry density is highest value and optimum moisture content is the lowest value in twocases that percents of No. 200 sieve are 30% in soils of which percents retained on No. 10 sieve are 5% and 10% respectively. 2. Maximum dry density increases according as uniformity coefficient increase. Maximum dry density is the highest when uniformity coefficient is approximately 300 in soil of which maximum diameter is 4.76mm. 3. Maximum dry density has a tendency to become large according as value of Cu Caincrease. Correlation between maximum dry density and $Log_{10}$(CuCa) shows straight line. 4. Maximum dry density increases according as n increase and reaches the peak when n equal 0.35 in condition that the index of talbot formula n is less than 0.35 in soil of which maximum diameter is 4.76mm. 5. Maximum dry density has a tendency to increase according as value of Cg $(Cg=\frac{P_{50}^2}{P_{10}{\times}{P_{200}}$) decrease.

  • This study is to investigate the application of concrete with crushed sand on site. As a result, it is showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand is very desirable for obtaining workability and strength of concrete, and the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand is 50% with sea sand. After all, the crushed sand could be sufficiently used as a fine aggregate for concrete in the aspect of economical efficiency and quality, but the particle shape and microsand passing No.200 sieve should be firstly improved for increasing workability of concrete on site.

  • The density of soil is one of the most important of its engineering properties, and many soil-engineering operations directed toward improving the density characteristics of matecal. This report is a study on relationship between density, permiabilty and other physical properties of compacted soil in various desity grades. The results of the study can be summariged as follow: 1. The optimum moisture content of soil increses with increasing of fine particles and a relationship between both parameter is $w_0=0.1765.n$ Where, n is passing percentage from #200 sieve. 2. The porosity of soil increases with increasing of optimum water content as $e=aw_0+b$ without having relation to compaction ratio. 3. The increment of permeability of soil is high when the compaction ratio is increased and the phenomenon is conspicuous in case of course soil and non-plastic soil. 4. The permeability of soil decreases with increasing of optrimum water content and the phenomenon is conspicuous when compaction ratio decreases. And the permeability is almost constant when optimum water content is more than 25 percent, even though compaction ratio changes. 5. The permeablity of soil increanses when the amount of fine particles is very few, the permeability is almost constant as being impervious condition without having relation to compaction ratio when there in more than 90 percent of fine particles(less than #200 sieve).

  • This study is to investigate the properties of concrete with crushed sand on site and to propose a quality guideline for its use as artificial sand and concrete. From our experimental result in laboratory and site, we found that demand water of concrete with crushed sand for target slump increased by 18kg/m3 compared to mixed sand and l8kg/m3 compared to sea sand respectively. The compressive strength increased by around 3∼6% when compared to concrete with sea sand. Accordingly, our study showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand would be desirable to obtain workability and strength of concrete including dry shrinkage and bleeding test. Furthermore, the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand was 50% with sea sand. As such, crushed sand would be sufficient as fine aggregate for concrete in terms of economic efficiency and quality. Crushed sand, on the other hand can only be used as fine aggregate when VFS(Very Fine Sand) is below 3.5 percentage of weight of sand and particle shape is above 55 percentage. Also, the particle shape and microsand passing NO.200 sieve should continually be improved to increase workability of concrete on site.

  • This study investigates relative density test of standard sand and bottom ash which were devided into No.40, No.60, No.100, No.200 and resonant column tests were conducted for samples with the relative density of 40%, 55%, and 70% on the basis of the test results. Resonant column tests were also conducted for each residual bottom ash which contains the passing sample of No.200 with the relative density of 55%. By compressing each residual sample with the compaction energy of A-compact mold test, the passing percentage of No.200 sieve increased up to 30%, which led to the adjustment of relative density to 10%, 20%, and 30%. Test results show that maximum shear modulus and damping ratio of bottom ash are smaller than those of standard sand because crushing strength and unit weight of the former are smaller than those of the latter.

  • Dredged and reclaimed ground in progress at the West Coast has a high content of coarse particles. There will be different behaviors depending on the location of outlet and engineering properties of soil when its ground is dredged by a pump. Therefore, the experiments were conducted that were manufactured about the chamber equipment of length 2,650mm, width 770mm, height 735mm, experimented step filling method and water content about 300%, 500% and 700% respectively with SM and ML samples in order to realize segregating sediment characteristics of dredged ground with changing much fine. With results of analysis, ML sample by higher initial water content was reached to the period of complete sedimentation and coefficient of sedimentation consolidation increased with increases of diffusion distance. SM samples showed behavior of coarse soil with diffusion distance 120cm, diffusion distance of more than 120cm showed a similar tendency with ML sample under the influence of fines. In ML sample, it could be also found that lower depth and the more increasing diffusion distance increase in percentage of sieve #200 but water content decreases. In SM sample, it could be also found that coarse soil was piled at near the diffusion distance zone but fine soil was piled at the far diffusion distance zone and prominent difference showed between percentage of sieve #200 and water content(%) by boundary point 120cm~160cm of both samples. Also, shear strength was expressed ML-maximum 2.97kPa, SM-maximum 10.2kPa with diffusion distance.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the relationships between the geotechnical properties and the CBR values of the subgrade materials used in the rural roal construction. A total of 77 Soil samples was investigated and tested from 45 agricultural and industrial sites in Kyungpook Province. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The maximum dry densities of the coarse grained soils are larger than those of the fine grained soils. The optimum moisture contents of the coarse grained soils are smaller than those of the fine grained scils. 2. The mean values of the medified CBR values of the soils classified by the USCS, are decreased in the order of GP-GM, SW-SM, GM, SC, SP-SM, ML, CL-ML. And, those classified by the AASHTO are decreased in the order of A-i-a, A-i-b, A-2-4, A-3, A-4, A-6, A-7-6. 3. As passing percentage of No.200 sieve is increased, the CBR Value of soils is decreased gradually. 4. As the optimum moisture contents of the soil is increased, the CBR values is decresed the maximum dry density of the soils increased, the CBR values increased. 5. The CBR values are decreased as Group-lndex(GI) are increased. And Activity(A) is showed no relation with the CBR values. 6. The relation ships between the modified CBR value and standand proctor compaction CBR value at 95% compaction ratio can he expressed as the following equation : Y(CERmod)= 2.3638 + 0.8922X(CBR25).

  • A series of one-dimensional cylinder sedimentation test, seepage consolidation test and two-dimensional deposition model test were conducted to examine the characteristics of deposition and volume change of dredged soils containing the high water content, and these experimental results were compared with the sedimentary conditions of actual dredged-reclaimed fields to obtain the relations of a volume change by settling what is required for design. In addition, the change of water content and the distribution of fine grained soils after sedimentation were investigated. Thus, it was concluded that deposition height increased lineary as substantial soil volume increased, and also the elevation of interface increasea proportionately at both the starting time and the finishing time of virtual self-weight consolidation in one-dimensional sedimentation. Furthermore, the two-dimensional model test results were shown to describe the plain distribution of water content and fine grained silt where dredged soil was deposited by two dimensional flowing, and the water content was distributed to wide range from the minimum water content 30% to maximum 180% according to the passed amount of №200 sieve percentage.

  • Sedimentation and pH neutralization has been investigated as preteatment of acid contaminate water. The settling and neutralizing process derive more effective degradation efficiency as the pre-treatment process before the removal process of adsorption, volatile, biodegradation, or oxidation. Settling velocity, uniformity coefficient, coefficient of curvature, and grain size index can define in the sedimentation process for characteristics of the soil. The stainless steel sieve has been used to separate each particle size of the dry soil by assembling in order of 4, 10, 20, 40, 80, 100, and 200 mesh sizes. The soil from Gamcheon Port in Busan drops upper side of the sieve and shakes back and forth to separate each different size of the particle. The 1L of Imhoff cone and 200 mL of the mass cylinder were used as settling tanks to calculate settling velocity. Stokes' equation was used to figure out the average density of dry soil with a value from settling velocity. In the results, the average particle density and lowest settling velocity were 1.93 g/cm3 and 0.11 cm/s, respectively. These values can detect the range of settling points of sediment to prevent chemical accidents. In pH neutralization, the initial pH of 2, 3, 4, and 5 of nitric acid and sulfuric acid are used as an acid solution; 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 M of sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide are used as a base solution. The main goal of this experiment is to figure out the volume percentage of the acid solution becomes pH 7. The concentration of 0.001 M of base solution exceeds all the conditions, 0.01 M exceeds partially, and 0.1 M does not exceed 5 v/v% except pH 2. Calcium hydroxide present less volume than sodium hydroxide at pH neutralization both sulfuric and nitric acid.
