한국과 일본여대생의 체형인식과 자아존중감, 신체만족도 및 신체이미지가 유행선도력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Perception of Body Shape, Self-esteem, Body Cathexis, and Body Image on Fashion Leadership by Korean and Japanese Female College Students)

  • This study compares the perceived body image of female college students in Korea and Japan as well as explains the difference in the level of self-esteem, body cathexis, body image and fashion leadership based on nationality and body. The sense of fashion leadership affected by these factors was also analyzed. A high ratio of Korean and Japanese female students perceived themselves as obese compared to actual body physique. It was shown that body was highly distorted. They showed a comparatively low level of satisfaction with appearance in contrast to their high interest in their appearance and weight. Thin bodied individuals showed a high level of self-esteem and body cathexis; however, persons with an obese body showed a low level of body cathexis. They showed high interest in appearance regardless of body physique; however, they remain unsatisfied with their appearance. Individuals with an obese body and a standard somatotype showed a high concern with weight. A high fashion opinion leadership was reciprocal to a high interest in appearance and satisfaction with appearance. Korean female students showed an indirect positive effect on fashion opinion leadership through body cathexis, self-esteem, interest in appearance, and satisfaction with appearance. A thin body showed a positive effect on fashion opinion leadership and an obese body had a negative effect. Fashion innovativeness was directly influenced persons with a high degree of self-esteem and interest in appearance. Japanese female students were directly affected by fashion innovativeness; however, Korean female students were indirectly affected by fashion innovativeness through self-esteem and interest in appearance.

Who has experienced better or worse health conditions since the outbreak of COVID-19?: results from a representative cross-sectional survey in Seoul

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected the entire world population in many ways. This study aimed to analyze the patterns of changes in eating, food purchasing and preparation, physical activity, and subjective health after COVID-19 outbreak by various sociodemographic factors and to understand the factors associated with changes in subjective health. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A cross-sectional survey using a representative sample from Seoul was used for the analysis. The data collection was conducted from September to October 2020. A total of 3,833 citizens aged more than 18 years old participated in the Seoul Food Survey. Descriptive statistics and generalized ordinal logistic regression models were used to understand the changes in health behaviors, health indicators, and subjective general health by various socioeconomic status. RESULTS: It was shown that the changes in household income, food expenditure, food consumption and physical activities differed significantly by age, education, occupation, income, weight, and food security status. Low-income and food-insecure households were affected more severely by the pandemic. Older age, household food insecurity, income reduction, increased home cooking and frequency of having instant foods, decreased physical activity and weight gain were significant factors explaining worse perceived health during the COVID-19 pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that focusing on older populations and low-income families with food insecurity should be prioritized during infectious disease outbreaks. In addition, the role of physical activities and instant food consumption in explaining perceived health should be investigated further in this prolonged battle with the pandemic situation.

Sucrose solution for alleviating needle pain during inferior alveolar nerve block in children aged 7-10 years: a randomized clinical trial

  • Background: Intraoral local anesthesia is essential for delivering dental care; however, injection of this local anesthetic is perceived as the most painful and distressing agent for children, parents, and healthcare providers. Reducing pain as much as possible is essential to ensure smooth subsequent treatment procedures, especially in pediatric dentistry. In clinical practice, oral sucrose administration has been reported to decrease the pain during heel lance and cold pressor tests in neonates and children. This study aimed to determine whether the prior administration of a 30% sucrose solution reduced the pain related to inferior alveolar nerve block in children. Methods: A total of 42 healthy children aged 7-10 years requiring dental treatment of mandibular molars involving inferior alveolar nerve block were recruited. The participants' demographic details were recorded, height and weight were measured, and the anesthetic injection was delivered after receiving the respective intraoral sucrose solution and distilled water by the intervention (group 1) and control (group 2) group participants for 2 min. The subjective pain perceived during injection was measured using an animated emoji scale. The pain scores between the groups were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The median pain score and range for the intervention and control groups were 4 (2 - 6) and 6 (4 - 8), respectively, and statistically significant differences (P < 0.001) were observed in the intervention group. Age, sex, height, and weight did not influence the analgesic effect of the sucrose solution. Conclusion: Oral administration of sucrose may relieve pain associated with inferior alveolar nerve block in children.

건설업 산업안전보건관리비와 안전관리비의 항목별 중요도 및 영향도 분석 (Exploration of the Importance and Impact of Cost Items in Occupational Safety and Health Management Funds and Safety Management Expenditures in Construction)

  • 본 연구에서는 건설사의 건설안전 전문가 70명을 대상으로 설문 조사와 그룹 인터뷰를 통해 산업안전보건관리비와 안전관리비의 항목별 중요도와 영향도를 평가하였다. 통계분석 결과, 산업안전보건관리비에서 안전시설비와 안전·보건관리자 임금이 가장 중요한 항목으로 나타났으며, 중요도와 영향도에서 다른 세부 항목 간에 차이가 있음을 확인했다. 한편, 안전관리비에서는 세부 항목 간에 중요도와 영향도에서 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 산업안전보건관리비의 중요도와 영향도는 보통 양의 상관관계가 나온반면, 안전관리비의 경우 약한 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 국내 건설 프로젝트의 안전성 향상과 사고 예방을 위한 중요한 참고 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

광주.전남 일부 지역 중학생들의 BMI 수준에 따른 식행동, 체형인식 및 체중조절 양상에 관한 연구 (A Comparison Study on Middle School Students of Gwangju and Jeonnam in Terms of Dietary Behavior, Body Perception and Weight Control Concerns According to BMI)

  • 본 연구는 광주 전남지역 중학생 732명을 대상으로 BMI 수준에 따른 식습관, 식행동, 체형인식 및 체중조절 실태에대해 조사하였으며 이에 대한 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. BMI 수준에 따른 조사대상자의 분포는 남학생이 저체중군 27.8%, 정상체중군 45.9%, 과체중군 26.3%이었으며, 여학생은 저체중군이 26.2%, 정상체중군 53.6%, 과체중군 20.2%이었다. 남녀 중학생의 평균 BMI는 각각 $20.7{\pm}1.0$$20.6{\pm}0.2$이었다. 점수로 평가한 식습관과 식행동에서 남자중학생은 과체중군이 저체중군에 비해 빨리 먹는 점수가 높으며, 저녁식사의 양과 야식섭취 및 식품선택 시 기호보다 영양을 고려하는 점수는 낮았다. 여자 중학생은 과체중군이 과식과 스트레스 시의 음식 섭취와 식품선택 시 가격보다 영양을 고려하는 점수는 높았고, 야식 점수가 낮았다. 조사대상자의 신장은 남자 중학생 저체중군이 정상체중군과 과체중군에 비해 유의적으로 낮았으나, 여자 중학생은 그룹간 차이가 없었으며, 남녀 중학생 모두 실측한 신장보다 더 크기를 원하였다. 조사대장자의 체중은 남녀 중학생 모두 그룹간의 차이가 유의적이었다. 남자 중학생은 과체중군에서만 체중감소를 희망한 반면, 여자 중학생은 과체중군뿐아니라 정상체중군에도 체중의 감소를 희망하였는데, BMI가 클수록 원하는 체중과 실측체중간의 차이가 컸다. 본 연구대상자들의 인지체형은 남녀 중학생 모두 해당 군별 체형에 근접하였으나, 정상체중군에서 인지체형에 대한 왜곡경향이 높았으며, 희망체형과 인지체형의 차이가 과체중군에서 가장 컸다. BMI가 높을수록 체중조절에 대한 관심과 경험이 높았는데, 남자 중학생은 건강을 위해서, 여자 중학생은 날씬한 외모를 갖고 싶어서가 체중감량의 이유로 가장 많았다. BMI가 클수록 체형만족도가 낮으며, 희망체형과 인지체형간의 차이 값이 컸으나 스트레스는 BMI가 낮을수록 컸다. 또한 희망체중과 체형에서 실측체중 및 인지체형을 뺀 값이 클수록 체형만족도가 낮았다. 본 연구의 결과, 과체중군은 정상체중군과 저체중군에 비해 과식, 스트레스 시의 음식섭취에서 보다 바람직하지 않았으며, 스트레스와 체중 조절관심도 및 경험이 더 많아, BMI 수준에 따라 식생활 양상에 차이를 보였는데, 과체중군의 식행동과 태도가 보다 바람직하지 못하였다. 따라서 남녀 중학생을 대상으로 올바른 체형인식과 더불어 체계적인 영양교육의 필요성을 제시하는 바이다.

서울 일부 지역 여고생의 체중조절 및 이와 관련된 요인 (A Study of Weight Control and Associated Factors among High School Female Students)

  • The study purpose was to examine weight control status and related factors among 370 high school girls in Seoul. Factors examined included interest toward weight control, body satisfaction, body image, beliefs regarding weight control and self-efficacy. $65.1\%$ had attempted to control weight and were categorized into attempt group. Those in the attempt group had higher body weight (p < 0.001) and BMI (p < 0.001) than the counterparts. They tried to control weight 2.9 times on average (22.4 days each time). The major information sources for weight control were internet ($62.8\%$), and TV/radio ($17.1\%$). Exercise was most commonly used for weight control, followed by reducing meal amount and skipping dinner. The attempt group was less satisfied with body size (p < 0.001) and perceived their body size as heavier than the counterparts (p < 0.001), but they showed more interest toward weight control (p < 0.001). The ideal body size of society or the body size that they want was very thin in both groups. Twelve out of 20 beliefs regarding weight control were significantly different between the two groups. The attempt group believed more strongly on the advantages such as increased self-confidence, appearance, attractiveness (p < 0.001) and 'good for making friends' (p < 0.01) In contrast, the attempt group believed less strongly about the disadvantages including harmful effects on health (p < 0.001), parents' dislike, feelings of discouragement (p < 0.01) and becoming (p < 0.05). The attempt group showed lower overall self-efficacy to control overeating (p < 0.05) than the counterparts. Especially, the attempt group felt less control of overeating in situations such as eating-out, after school, when they are with family (p < 0.01) or with friends, when they feel hungry, during examination periods and when others offer food (p < 0.05). This study suggested that weight management education for adolescents include strategies for changing body image and beliefs regarding weight control, as well as increasing self-efficacy to control overeating. 군산지역 대학생의 체중 조절 태도와 이상식이습관과의 상관관계 연구 (Relation of Body Weight Control and Eating Disorder of University Students in the Gunsan Area)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the body weight controls and eating disorders of university students in Gunsan. The subject of the present study included 229 male students (53.8%) and 197 female students (46.2%), totalling 426 students from Kunsan University. The subjects consisted of 56 underweight (13.1%), 265 with normal weight (62.2%), and 105 overweight (24.6%). Especially, in females, 20.8% of them were underweight, which is 6.6% higher than males, showing a significant difference (p<0.001). Regarding body image, 21.8% of the males thought they were fat, while 40.6% of the females thought they were fat. Regarding the perceived body type, shown in the difference between their own size and the ideal size, males recorded 0.03, while females recorded 1.75, showing a major significant difference (p<0.001). Regarding body satisfaction, 33.2% of the males were unsatisfied, while 52.8% of the females were unsatisfied (p<0.001). The social expectations of the male subjects' sizes and weights recorded 2.04, while that of females recorded -2.51, showing that people's opinions expected the female subjects' bodies to be thinner (p<0.001). Additionally, the social expectation of the subjects' weight control recorded an average of 15.22 (13.92 for males, 16.73 for females), showing that the female subjects' felt that people's opinions wished them to lose their weight (p<0.001). Regarding the recognition on weight control, interested males were 49.4%, while interested females were 86.8%, showing the females superior rate (p<0.001). The beliefs in relation to weight control recorded an average of 62.01, with the score of females of 67.89 being significantly higher than that of males which was 56.96. The subjects showed a relatively positive response towards weight control (p<0.001). EAT-26 score was employed to determine the eating attitudes in relation to gender. Here, the final score of males was 15.46, which was significantly lower than that of females, which was 22.21 (p<0.001). Furthermore, regarding the score of eating attitudes in relation to obesity index, the eating disorder scale scores on the questions related to bulimia and diets to lose weight as weight increases were high. However, the eating disorder scale score on oral control, which actually controls food, was low. To control the expansion of excessive weight control attempts and their side effects, the recognition of the students' body types needs to be corrected, and nutrition education programs on eating habits and eating disorders to foster proper weight loss are deemed necessary.

취약계층 골관절염 여성의 건강증진 프로그램 효과 (The Effect of Health Promotion Program in Vulnerable Women with Osteoarthritis)

  • Purpose: This study was to develop and evaluate a health promotion program for women with osteoarthritis. Methods: The research adopted the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 34 in the experimental group and 34 in the control group sampled among vulnerable women aged over 40. The independent variable was the health promotion program, and the dependent variables were perceived health status, balance, K-WOMAC, depression, life satisfaction and health promoting behavior. The health promotion program was performed for 50minutes each session, twice a week and for 8 weeks. Data were collected from July 1 to September 11, 2010. Results: The experimental group showed significant differences in perceived health status, balance, WOMAC pain, WOMAC difficulty of performing activity, depression, and health promoting behavior compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in WOMAC stiffness, waist, weight, and life-satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the health promotion program can be applied in degenerative arthritis education to improve self-care.

경주지역 일부 중학생의 건강관련 위험행동 (A Survey of the Health Risk Behaviors of Middle School Students in Kyungju)

  • The purpose of this study was to collect basic data to develop school health policy and health promotion program. This survey measured the levels of risk behaviors in six categories in a middle school students in Kyungju(n=490). The data was collected from November to December 2000. It was done using a 1999 version of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey of CDC, which was translated and make a partial modification. The major results were as follows. Many middle school students engaged in behaviors that will increase the likelihood of death or illness. 1) A high percentage of middle school students engaged in behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and school-related violence (42.1 -78%) 2) Students who perceived their school life are happy experienced more depression(p=.000) and Students who perceived their school and family life are so-and-so seriously considered attempting suicide(p = .000) than other subgroup. 3) In spite of they were normal weight, 14.5% of students considered themselves overweight. 4) There was significantly difference or correlation between health risk behaviors and grade, parents educational level perception of school life and performance, perception of family life and religion. Based on this results of study, it is necessary to develop school health program and school health policy to prevent health risk behaviors and improve health promotion especially considering characteristics of middle school students.

크론병 환자의 삶의 질에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Quality of life of the Patients with Crohn's Disease)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the quality of life among the patients with Crohn's disease. Method: Data were collected from 97 Crohn's disease patients between September 17 and October 20 in 2009. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS program. Results: There were significant differences in the participants' quality of life depending on their age, economic status, pain, diarrhea, weight loss, Crohn's disease activity index (CDAI), and use of medications such as antidiarrhotica, steroid, and analgesics. The results also showed the correlations between the participants' qualities of life and thier pain, CDAI, anxiety, depression, perceived health condition, and of body image. Finally, the factors affecting the quality of life in patients with Crohn's disease included anxiety, perceived health state, pain, and CDAI. The explanatory power of these factors was 79.5%. Conclusion: The results imply that controlling the patients' pain and providing emotional support for anxiety reduction are crucial. In a similar vein, tailored nursing interventions considering individual patients' conditions are believed to help the patients positively perceive their disease. A future research, can conduct further investigations of these factors from more diverse perspectives, which is expected to promote more effective nursing strategies for Crohn's disease patients.
