  • The role of The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) in predicting relapse is limited. We aimed to assess whether this model can be utilised to predict relapse during the action stage. The participants included 120 smokers who had abstained from smoking for at least 24 hours following two Malaysian universities' smoking cessation programme. The smokers who relapsed perceived significantly greater advantages related to smoking and increasing doubt in their ability to quit. In contrast, former smokers with greater self-liberation and determination to abstain were less likely to relapse. The findings suggest that TTM can be used to predict relapse among quitting smokers.

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate if and how country-of-origin as product characteristics and attitude toward imported brand and brand familiarity as consumer characteristics have impacts on consumer satisfaction with imported apparel. Disconfirmation paradigm was used as a theoretical framework. 570 consumers who had buying experiences of imported apparel were interviewed in department stores. The results showed that the most influential factor on consumer satisfaction with imported apparel was perceived clothing product performance. Country-of-origin and expectations had little effects. Country-of-origin appeared effective on consumer satisfaction only in the case of European products. Consumers were satisfied less as their expectations level were high, which indicated expectations had contrast effects on clothing satisfaction.

  • Consumer demand for high quality image/video services led to growing trend in image quality enhancement study. Therefore, recent years was a period of substantial progress in this research field. Through careful observation of the image quality after processing by image enhancement algorithms, we perceived that the dark region in the image usually suffered loss of contrast to a certain extent. In this paper, the low-light stretch preprocessing algorithm is, hence, proposed to resolve the aforementioned issue. The proposed approach is evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively against the well-known histogram equalization and Photoshop curve adjustment. The evaluation results validate the efficiency and superiority of the low-light stretch over the benchmarking methods. In addition, we also propose the 255MHz-capable hardware implementation to ease the process of incorporating low-light stretch into real-time imaging systems, such as aerial surveillance and monitoring with drones and driving aiding systems.

  • When evaluating the quality of images and displays, it is important to combine the characteristics as perceived by the human visual system and measured by equipment using subjective and objective methods, respectively. In the case of objective methods, the quality of a display is measured using colorimetric or radiometric devices according to existing standards covering the color temperature, gamut size, gamma characteristic, and device characterization. Meanwhile, subjective methods assess the quality of an image using the human visual system based on a comparison with a reference or counterpart using such metrics as the sharpness, noise, contrast, saturation, and color accuracy. Objective and subjective methods are usually used together in comparison, as ultimately it is observers watching images on a display. In addition to existing objective methods, a new image quality metric is also introduced as regards the JPEG compression ratio that is reflected in the relationship between the gamut size and the color fidelity in CIELAB color space.

  • The image quality of CRT displays is descnbed by the physical characteristics such as luminance, contrast, address ability, viewing distance, and so on. However, the final evaluation of rmage quality is deteITIlllled by not phYSICal data, but subjective perceived Image quality. Therefore the correlation is compared the score of subjective image qualIty accompli~hed by several persons with calculated SQRI (SQuate Root Integral) value uSlllg 4 kInds of CRT monitors. And the influence of tile physical chatac1eristics for subjective Image quality is analyzed on the basis of the validity of SQRI method as a metric for the evaluation of subjective image quality. ality.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of a model, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), that predicts the intention of a problem gambler to abstain from gambling. In order to investigate attitudes toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, and intentions to abstain from gambling, we surveyed 100 problem gamblers who used community-based service centers. Furthermore, we analyzed by the structural equation model whether attitude toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control can influence the intention to abstain from gambling. The analysis of the study model revealed that the most powerful predictor of the gambling abstinence intention is perceived behavior control, followed by a positive attitude toward gambling abstinence. In contrast, subjective norms did not show a significant influence on intentions for gambling abstinence. Based on these results, we propose cognitive-behavioral interventions to improve attitudes and self-efficacy toward gambling abstinence in order to help problem gamblers recover. In other words, continuous support and coping-skills training are needed to reinforce the belief that people can recover from a gambling problem, and information and education on problem gambling to improve positive attitudes can also be helpful. Therefore, it is possible to consider not only the treatment of gambling problems, but also to provide preventive interventions centering on the addiction management institution.

  • As a critical element for success of community based tourism, festivals and special events play a significant role in enticing visitors from outside of the host community. More importantly, festivals and events contribute to improve the life quality for both hosts and guests. The purpose of this study is to develop a market segmentation strategy based on the perceived festival impacts among visitors to Poonggi Ginseng Festival so that each segment can be treated and communicated with separatedly for utmost visiting satisfaction. In this study, two market segments based on visitors' socio-cultural and environmental evaluation of the festival were identified, namely high appraisal group and low appraisal group. Two groups contrast sharply in terms of their behavioral patterns and perceived value and overall satisfaction. Practical marketing strategies are suggested accordingly.

  • Given the interdependence of a marital couple, this study examined the effects of both cultural challenge and economic hardship on intention to divorce among the multicultural couple using the actor-partner interdependence model(APIM), and explored dyadic patterns of actor and partner effects. 415 couples(n=830) participated in this self-administered questionnaire study. Results of path analyses based on APIMs revealed that for Korean husbands perceived cultural challenge contributed positively to divorce intention of the couple showing both actor and partner effects, whereas for immigrant wives such perception showed only an actor effect. In contrast, perceived economic hardship among the husbands had little effect on divorce intention of both husbands and wives, whereas such perception by wives had both actor and partner effects on divorce intention. Results of dyadic pattern analyses performed by Bootstrap indicated the actor-only pattern and the couple pattern of perceived cultural challenge on divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. In case of perceived economic hardship comparison of the effect size suggested the partner-only pattern and the actor-only pattern for divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. These findings implied that in order to promote conjugal harmony and to prevent the multicultural family from being dissolved, Korean husbands need to develop greater cultural competence so as to tolerate cultural differences between the couple, whereas immigrant wives and their families need to develop greater economic competence so as to foster a hope for economic reliance.

  • Most of the prior researches in brand extension evaluation have utilized purchase intention as a n effective variable to assess the effectiveness of brand extensions. In contrast, the author proposes that trial intention is to better predict consumers' behavioral response in the newly launched brand extension markets where relate to high risk and uncertainty. Furthermore, the study explores the effects of attitude toward parent brand and consumers' characteristics (perceived similarity and consumption experience) on trial intention of brand extensions. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the data collection was conducted for actual consumers who had experience using parent brand products. This study employed experiment and questionnaire survey and collected data of 186 was analyzed using clustering analysis and regression analysis. The main results are as follows. First, attitude toward parent brand has a positive effect on trial intention of the extensions. Second, perceived similarity and consumption experience of parent brand have moderating effects on the relation of attitude toward parent brand and trial intention of brand extensions. The results provide that both industry and academic researchers with a guide to process trial intention of brand extension from a comprehensive perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of parental overprotection on Korean college students' moral behaviors. To test the prediction that overprotected participants will show more immoral behaviors in moral dilemma situations, we measured perceived parental overprotectiveness and morality. Participants were 113 college freshmen. Two types of modified experimental paradigms were used to assess participants on their levels of justice-oriented and prosocial morality. Based on whether they displayed moral behavior (i.e., honest or helping behavior) or not, participants were included in either moral or immoral group. Second, the levels of perceived maternal overprotectiveness and paternal overprotectiveness were assessed using Korean-Parental Overprotection Scale (K-POS) and were compared between moral and immoral group. For justice-oriented morality, the results showed that the immoral group reported a significantly higher level of perceived maternal overprotection compared to the moral group (t = 2.16, p < .05). On the contrast, paternal overprotection was not related to participants' honesty. The results indicate that participants who experienced overprotective parental care are more likely to act immorally in moral dilemma situations dealing with justice. Meanwhile, for prosocial morality, both maternal and paternal overprotection levels did not result in significant difference between two groups. More Implications and limitations were discussed.
