  • Background: The long-term care (LTC) group has higher rates of chronic disease and disability registration compared to the general older people population. There is a need to provide integrated medical services and care for LTC group. Consequently, this study aimed to identify medical usage patterns based on the ratings of LTC and the characteristics of benefits usage in the LTC group. Methods: This study employed the National Health Insurance Service Database to analyze the effects of demographic and LTC-related characteristics on medical usage from 2015 to 2019 using a repeated measures analysis. A longitudinal logit model was applied to binary data, while a linear mixed model was utilized for continuous data. Results: In the case of LTC ratings, a positive correlation was observed with overall medical usage. In terms of LTC benefit usage characteristics, a higher overall level of medical usage was found in the group using home care benefits. Detailed analysis by medical institution classification revealed a maintained correlation between care ratings and the volume of medical usage. However, medical usage by classification varied based on the characteristics of LTC benefit usage. Conclusion: This study identified a complex interaction between LTC characteristics and medical usage. Predicting the requisite medical services based on the LTC rating presented a challenge. Consequently, it becomes essential for the LTC group to continuously monitor medical and care needs, even after admission into the LTC system. To facilitate this, it is crucial to devise an LTC rating system that accurately reflects medical needs and to broaden the implementation of integrated medical-care policies.

  • This study analyzed the factors related to labor market transition of job injured workers. The Workers' Compensation Insurance Panel data ver.1, which that was surveyed by the Korean Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service in 2013, was used. Four key findings were made: first, the economically inactive populations are 7.2% and unemployed is 22.3% of occupational accident workers who finished the treatment period; second, 31.5% of laborers who returned to a new workplace went into another type of occupation; third, the results showed that socio-demographic factors, such as gender, age and education years, injury-related factors, such as the treatment period and work limitation, and workplace factors, such as company size and employment status, were associated with the return to work; and fourth, a relatively higher proportion of people who has received occupational training could not return to work and the disability grade was not associated with the return to work. These results suggest that policy makers need to understand the characteristics of labor market transition of job injured workers and develop efficient intervention programs based on the transitional labor market.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to develop the strategy of promoting participation on physical activity programs among the disabled through analysis of satisfaction on the Welfare Center for the Disabled-based program. Methods: The subjects were 151 disabled people who had physical disability or brain disorder. They had participated on the physical activity programs which were opened in 13 welfare centers for the disabled of Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The data were collected by the survey for 2 weeks in May, 2011. Results: There were no differences in the satisfaction on physical activity programs by general characteristics and health status. As for cognitive factors, it were significantly different on the satisfaction by the importance of physical activity and the fitness maintenance factor (p<0.05, p<0.01). Significant differences were found in the satisfaction by the participating attitude and the participation motives, such as goal-oriented and activity-oriented motives. It were significantly different on the satisfaction by the duration, frequency per week, time per once, and components in terms of the physical activity program. Conclusions: To revitalize the physical activity-for-all project for the disabled, it needs to develop the strategy and to enhance the health education to improve their health status.

  • Few studies have examined reasons why those with low socioeconomic status do not adequately receive cancer screening. We therefore conducted a qualitative study to assess the barriers to cancer screening in people with low socioeconomic status, and to examine the reasons why Medical Aid Program (MAP) recipients do not participate in the National Cancer Screening Program (NCSP). A focus group methodology was used. Participants included MAP recipients (men aged 45-79 years, women aged 35-79 years) who had been invited to cancer screening at least twice based on the NCSP protocol, but had not been screened for any cancer from 2009-2012. We recruited participants living in the cities of Goyang and Paju. A total of 23 MAP recipients participated in four focus group discussions, including 12 men and 11 women. In this qualitative study, we identified six barriers to screening: lack of trust in the NCSP and cancer screening units; fear of being diagnosed with cancer; discomfort or pain from the screening procedure; lack of time, lack of knowledge about cancer screening or lack of awareness of the existence of the NCSP; physical disability or underlying disease; and logistic barriers. Interventions such as individualized counseling, letters and reminders, or other individually-targeted strategies, especially for those with lower socioeconomic status are required to increase participation and reduce disparities in cancer screening.

  • Most patients with chronic low back pain experience functional disability of trunk muscle, and limitations in physical activity. While there are many types of exercise programs available, in recent years sling exercise has been emerging as the exercise program for spinal stabilization. It has been supported by a great amount of research with positive findings on its effectiveness. This research studies the effects of bridging exercise, conducted on a sling, on pain level and trunk muscle activation in supine, sidelying, and prone positions during a 4 weeks period. 10 healthy people(normal group, n=10) and 28 patients with low back pain participated in this study. 28 patients were divided into two groups; one group participated in exercise with the sling(experimental group, n=14) and the other group exercised without the sling(control group, n=14). They were asked to use the Numerical Rating Scale(NRS) to answer to the level of their pain they felt (no pain: 0 point, severe pain: 10 points). During sling bridging exercises, the muscle activity level in each muscle measured in each position was standardized as three seconds of EMG signals during five seconds MVIC. In conclusion, the experimental group with four weeks of sling bridging exercise experienced a statistically significant reduction in the pain level(p<.05) and increase in the muscle activities of erector spinae when in supine position, internal oblique when in sidelying position, and rectus abdominis in prone position(p<.05). Regular sling bridging exercise reduces the low back pain and enhances other trunk muscle activation, thereby positively affect spinal stabilization.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the level and influence factors of social safety perception of middle-aged and older adults with disabilities. The subjects of the survey were older than 50 with disabilities who responded to the 2018 Social Survey. The results analyzed by Hierarchical regression analyzes showed that factors such as gender, age, place of residence, education level, subjective health status, risk response level, compliance level of others, and compliance with public order had a significant effect on the social safety perception level. Through this study, we could know the importance of personal requirements and social capital for social safety perception of middle-aged and older people with disabilities. In the future, the differences in safety perception by type of disability should be studied too.

For the study was conducted with a total of 534 people college student in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province from 18 March 2020 to 7 April 2020. As a result, the difference in the level of belief in scalp health care according to lifestyle showed significant differences in perceived benefit, perceived disability, and self-efficacy. In addition, the results of the difference in scalp care behavior according to lifestyle were found to be high in the order of social orientation, fashion pursuit, and economic orientation. Through this study, it is thought that it is necessary to open information and education programs that can raise the level of belief in scalp health and to develop scalp care products for each lifestyle type.

  • Children with language developmental disabilities often struggle through their lives from a lot of challenges in everyday life and social activities. They're often easily deprived of the opportunity to engage in social activities, because they find difficulty in understanding or using language, a core means of communication. With regard to this issue, AAC(Augmentative and Alternative Communication) can be an effective communication tool for children who are suffering from language disabilities. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based AI service to make full use of the pictogram as an AAC tool for children with language developmental disabilities to improve not only the ability to interact with others but the capacity to understand language. Using this service, we strive to help these children to more effectively communicate their intention or desire and enhance the quality of life.
