  • Diesel particulate trap is a core technology for the reduction of PM from diesel vehicles This study presents the features and the characteristics of DPF system when using pellet type filters. In comparison with wall-flow filter, the pellet filter has the advantages of cracking free during regeneration and shape flexibility. Experiments are conducted in a test bench simulated as diesel engine exhaust condition. Pressure drop and particle loading rate was compared by using two pellet filters having the porosity of 70% and 0%. Also its regeneration was tested.

  • A discharge plasma reactor using a ferroelectric pellet packed bed is now used as a removal means of pollutant gases, such as NOx, SOx and VOCs. When an ac voltage is applied to this plasma reactor, then the pellets are polarized, and great electric fields are formed at each top and bottom contact points of the ferroelectric pellets. Thus the points of each pellet become covered with intense corona discharges, where an electrophysicochemical reaction is taking place strongly However these strong discharges also elevate the temperature of the pellets greatly and concurrently decrease the output ozone generation, as a result, the overall removal efficiency of gas becomes decreased greatly A new configuration of discharge plasma reactor using a ferroelectric pellet layer and a wire-to-wire electrode has been proposed and investigated experimentally. It is found that an intensive microdischarge is taking place on the surface of ac corona-charged ferroelectric pellet layer of the proposed reactor, which concurrently enhances the efficiency of plasma generation greatly And, this type of configuration of plasma reactor utilizing a wire-to-wire electrode and a ferroelectric pellet layer could be used as one of effective plasma reactors to remove pollutant gas.

  • The sintering characteristics of PVA-Al(III) complex added $UO_2$ pellet and AlOOH added $UO_2$pellet were compared. The major phase of PVA-Al(III) complex and AlOOH decomposed at $1000^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$atmosphere was $\theta-Al_2O_3$. Compared with the apparent density of pure $UO_2$, that of AlOOH added $UO_2$ powder was higher but that of PVA-Al(III) complex was lower. the densification of AlOOH added $UO_2$ pellet was initiated at about $800^{\circ}C$, the densification of PVA-Al(III) complex added $UO_2$ pellet was initiated at about $900^{\circ}C$ respectively. In a view of pore size distribution, the PVA-Al(III) complex added $UO_2$ pellet appeared as monomodal type, whereas the AlOOH added $UO_2$ pellet appeared as bimodal type. The grain size of AlOOH added $UO_2$ pellet was about $13\mu\textrm{m}$ but the grain size of PVA-Al(III) complex added $UO_2$ pellet was increased up to about $36\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • Development of pellet-type artificial diet for insect was tried by using a twin screw extruder(TSE). Screws were arranged several times and two reverse screws were equipped on the foreparts of 2 axes of TSE. Pellet-type diet could be produced successfully under conditions of TSE set as the following. : 300 rpm of main motor speed, 228 rpm of feed motor speed, $75m{\ell}/min$ of running water speed and 5 mm of extrusion diameter. The optimum adding quantity of water to the manufactured diet was $1.2{\sim}1.5$ times of dry diet. On the rearing results of beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua and common cutworm, Spedoptera litura with the pellet-type diet, the final survival ratio (emergence rate) of these two species was over than 50%, and so it was concluded that the manufactured pellet-type artificial diet was sufficient dietetically to rear those insects.

  • During fuel irradiation tests, all parts of cylindrical structure with multiple holes act as heat sources due to fussion heat and ${\gamma}$-flux. The high temperature is especially generated in the center of pellet. Because of the high temperature, many problems occur, such as melting of pellet and declining of heat transfer between cladding and coolant. In this paper, it is attempted to minimize the temperature of pellet using optimization method. For thermal and optimization analysis of structure, the finite element method code, ANSYS 5.7 is used. Through the optimum design process, the temperature of SBT diminished 10% and the temperature of OBT diminished 18%.

  • The wood pellet is standardized of woody type fuel which of small cylindrical shape that is produced compress wood remnants in process of woody processing. The pellet is critical energy which expects to increase of the amount used in future. It consumes fuel which of home, common facilities stove and boiler, district heating, and CHP, etc. This study was to develop a movable pellet manufacturing equipment that can be mounted on a truck. The pellet production volume is approximately 309kg per hour, daily output is about 2ton. One days work based on the expected revenue of approximately \268,000 feasibility is considered sufficient.

  • This study investigates compressive strength of ice pellet strip which is potential medium for Natural Gas Hydrate(NGH) extruded from die holes of Twin-roll Press for Continuous Pelletizing(TPCP). Recently, the prototype of TPCP is newly developed where ice powder is continuously fed and extruded into strip-type pellet between twin rolls. The system is specifically designed for future expansion towards mass-production of ice pellet strips or solid form of natural gas hydrate. It is shown that the compressive strength of pellet strip heavily depends on factors in extrusion process such as disk size, surface smoothness, ring size, taper shape, feeding mechanism, and rotational speed. Here, the mechanism of TPCP, along with compressive strength of pellets is discussed in terms of its feasibility for producing NGH pellets in the future.

  • The yield performance and nutrient quality of barley for pellets making from whole crop material were discussed during 1993-1994. Barley (cv. Olbori) was grown on paddy land after rice cutivation and was harvested at early stage of physiological maturity. A column type of whole crop pellets was produced by 1.5cm diameter and 2.5cm height. Barley war evaluated as a suitable materials for whole crop pellet making. Barley produced higher yield and better qualitative roughage in the utilization of pellet making than in the silage making. Dry matter yields were obtained 12.02 MTha in pellet making and 11.70 MT/ha in silage making. Net energy value of barley pellet were 6.54 MJ in net energy lactation and 635 SV in starch equivalent net energy. Feeding of barley pellet improved milk production of daily cattle Daily milk yields per head were 25.1 liter in silage feeding and 25.9 liter in pellet feeding. Production cost of pellets and silages made from whole crop barley were 169.07 won/kg and 124.15 won/kg dry matter, respectively.

[n this study, it is attempted 10 minimize the temperature of pellet using optimization method about geometric variables. For thermal and optimization analysis or structure. the finite element method code. ANSYS 5.7 is used. In this procedure. subproblem approximation method is used to the optimization methods. Through the optimum design process, the temperature of sealed basket type is reduced from $2537^{\circ}C$ to $2181^{\circ}C$ and the temperature of open basket type is reduced from $2560^{\circ}C$ to $2106^{\circ}C$.

  • In the Korea, 80 percent of livestock manure were converted into compost and used as organic fertilizers. The livestock manure compost has two types of powder and pellet type (ID= 5~10 mm). The aim of this study was to investigate the properties of two types of cow manure compost pellet (cylinder and sphere type). Nitrogen concentrations of cylinder type and sphere type of compost pellets were 1.23 and 1.24%, respectively. There were similar with nitrogen concentration of cylinder and sphere types of compost pellets. As a result of analyzing the effect of granulation processing, it was found that the moisture content of the raw material was the most influential factor in the granulation processing in both of the processing types of the screw pressing method and the rotating cylinder method. When the cylinder and sphere types of compost pellets were dry to 20% of moisture content, the specific gravities of these compost pellets were 1.38 and 1.13, respectively. The compressive strength of cylinder type pellet and sphere type pellet were 27.6 and $11.3kg/cm^2$, respectively.
