  • This study aims to evaluate the cultural street and to find ways to revitalize a culture street. To achieve this, the study relied on empirical study method and the descriptive method; additionally, present condition survey was performed with a user interview. As a result, the item of 'night visit' shows the highest mean and the item of 'convenience of walking' follows. It means that this street has such a good condition in the convenience and accessibility of physical environment that it gives pedestrians pleasure like night activity and satisfying their curiosity. 5 lowest items of inquiry, however, are all about regional history and origin. It means that this cultural street did not reflect the history and embody the original form of the street. Also, this study proposes 4 type of street; a street with contents, a street with sequence, a street for pedestrians, and a street with identity.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the characteristic of residential life and space in Cohousing and the harmony of privacy and community in it. First consideration is to figure out concepts and case studies of Cohousing. Then, the harmony(of privacy and community) in Cohousing is evaluated within two domains, namely, domestic life and residential space. Consideration of such harmony(of privacy and community) in domestic life focuses on community relations as they manifested, that is, in traditional neighbours roles of caring, and mutual support and in community roles of active participation, common meal and share. Consideration of such harmony within residential spaces is based on the role of Common House, pedestrian traffic and shared outdoor areas. By these means, Cohousing demonstrates new possibilities for a more harmonious residential environment.

  • This paper descries design concepts, structure and charracteristics of personal communications system based on wideband CDMA under developing for general low-tier mobile telecommunications services as the first step of the next generation mobile telecommunications systems that provide timely exchange of various types of information with anyone, from anywhere, at anytime. Also, wedesign a reverse linktransmitter/receiver structure for personal communications system based on wideband CDMA and validata the performance of the designed structure and establish the each parameter via computer simulation. Simulaation results on the effects of reverse link synchronous transmission and the effects of power control and control and channel coding in pedestrian environment for low-tier services are presented.

  • Navigation system or way finding in Wearable computer help disabled and impaired persons and it is impossible to be safe and efficient for drivers as well as pedestrian. Wearable computing situation must be multi-tasking simultaneously and users need minimal attention. In this paper, we used virtual environment as real way-finding similarly. The direction cues of navigation system are investigated as visual only, visual & auditory, and visual & speech. In the paper, the trial demonstrates the difference of performance in detection of directing and performance of motor and subjective satisfaction of user.

  • We present the required handover capacity of personal communication service exchange(PCX). We use the flow-based mobility model. The dimension of PCX area and the number of radio port controller(RPC) in a PCX are determined according to the traffic carrying capacity of switching system and RPC. For the rectangular or square-shaped PCX/RPC area and the personal communication service environment with pedestrian traffic, we perform numerical computations to investigate the sensitivity to cell size, portable station(PS) terminating traffic, its density, and its average speed. The results how that the size of PCX/RPC area decreases as the PS terminating traffic and the PS density increase, and the PCX handover capacity required is more than 73,000 in the number of transactions per hour.

  • Cyclic delay diversity (CDD) is considered as a simple approach to exploit the frequency diversity in OFDM system. In this paper, we apply CDD to the conventional STBC/SFBC/STFBC-OFDM transmit diversity schemes for Rayleigh fading channels. We compare the performances of STBC/SFBC/STFBC with and without CDD schemes. Simulation results show that the combination of block coding with CDD works well when using the ITU-R M. 1225 channel for both Pedestrian A (Ped A) channel with the mobility of 3 km/h, and Vehicular A (Veh A) channel with the mobility of 120km/h. For a BER of $10^{-3}$, compared to the conventional block coding schemes, a gain of 2dB, 4dB, and 5dB is obtained under the Ped A channel environment by STBC-OFDM, SFBC-OFDM and STFBC-OFDM with CDD, respectively Under the Veh A channel. gains by the combined schemes are 6dB, 2dB, and 4dB, respectivcly.

  • This paper presents a sensor-based cane mechanism for walking aid of the visually impaired person. We also describe an approach to decide properly the length of the specified cane mechanism. The cane mechanism has some sensors to identify the possibility of a collision between the cane user and an object and/or a person, and a signal processing unit that enables the user to recognize such a collision is attached in the mechanism. Thus, the walker using this cane can recognize in advance the possibility of such a collision in his walking process. Consequently, it is helpful for the visually impaired person to walk on a pedestrian road safely. The feature of the proposed cane mechanism and its availability have been shown through experimental works in a typical walking environment.

  • According to traffic accidents-related statistics, 57.6 percent of the fatality of vehicle-to-pedestrian accident, occurred on crosswalk in rural highways. Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in South Korea is conceiving to reduce in the number of the fatality. This study is to reestablish the criteria of implementing lighting through field experiments and to develop an effective alternative of crosswalk lighting.

  • Application examples of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the planning stage of high-rise buildings are introduced. First, we introduce examples of applications in the environmental field. The pedestrian wind environment was one of the earliest practical examples of CFD. CFD was also employed to validate the heat island mitigation measures proposed as part of the new construction plan. Second, application examples of wind-force evaluations are introduced. Prediction examples are presented for the peak wind pressure around a complex-shaped building and the wind force evaluation for a base-isolated building. The results prove that the results of the proper execution of CFD are equivalent to those of the wind tunnel experiment. As examples of CFD applications of other issues related to high-rise building planning, we introduce snow accretion on outer walls and high-temperature exhaust from emergency generators. Finally, the future prospects for the use of CFD are discussed.
