The rate of traffic accidents that occurred in Korea last year is 10 out of every 100,000 people, ranking it 6th among the 35 OECD member countries. The accident rate of children with disabilities and elderly people is also high. The purpose of this study is to introduce traffic safety facilities which have been developed for the reduction of traffic accidents in non-urban areas in Korea through an analysis of the related literature, the accident factors using traffic accident analysis system data and traffic accident characteristics. Traffic safety integrated facilities for ICT-based pedestrian crossings are subject to cross-sectional coverage of child protection zones. The smart safety fence prevents vehicles from parking illegally and informs pedestrians that there is an access vehicle on the pedestrian crossing. The smart bump is designed to warn drivers who are not aware of the pedestrians. In order to standardize the appropriate form and size of the traffic safety facilities for pedestrian crossings, we constructed a standard model for each type, considering the road function, press classification, power, lane number, geometric form, etc. As a result, the rate of traffic accidents involving vulnerable people was reduced. In addition, it is anticipated that the maintenance costs will be reduced by the use of a solar power supply and their compatibility with the existing installed safety fences.

Efforts are being made to prevent traffic accidents within the child protection zone. Efforts are being made to prevent accidents by enacting safety facilities and laws to prevent traffic accidents in the school zone. However, traffic accidents in school zones continue to occur. If the driver can know the situation in the child protection zone in advance, accidents can be reduced. In this paper, we design a camera that eliminates blind spots in school zones and a number recognition camera system that can collect pre-traffic information. Design a LIDAR system that recognizes vehicle speed and pedestrians. Design an LED guidance system that delivers information to drivers without smart devices. We study time series analysis and artificial intelligence algorithms that collect and process pedestrian and vehicle information recognized by cameras and LIDAR. In the artificial intelligence traffic accident prevention system learned by deep learning, before entering the school zone, the school zone information is sent to the driver through the Force Push Service and the school zone information is delivered to the driver on the LED sign. try to reduce accidents.
Crosswalk detection is an important part of the Pedestrian Protection System in autonomous vehicles. Different methods of crosswalk detection have been introduced so far using crosswalk edge features, the distance between crosswalk blocks, laser scanning, Hough Transformation, and Fourier Transformation. However, most of these methods failed to detect crosswalks accurately, when they are damaged, faded away or partly occluded. Furthermore, these methods face difficulties when applying on real road environment where there are lot of vehicles. In this paper, we solve this problem by first using a region based binarization technique and x-axis histogram to detect the candidate crosswalk areas. Then, we apply Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classification method to decide whether the candidate areas contain a crosswalk or not. Experiment results prove that our method can detect crosswalks in different environment conditions with higher recognition rate even they are faded away or partly occluded.
Focusing on the drastic increase of smart devices, machine generated data expansion is a general phenomenon in network services and IoT (Internet of Things). Especially, built-in multi sensors in a smart device are used for collection of user status and moving data. Combining the internal sensor data and environmental information, we can determine landmarks that decide a pedestrian's locations. We use an ANOVA method to analyze data acquired from multi sensors and propose a landmark classification algorithm. We expect that the proposed algorithm can achieve higher accuracy of indoor-outdoor positioning system for pedestrians.
This paper proposes the design of Vehicular Cyber-Physical Systems (called VCPS) based on vehicular cloud for smart road networks. Our VCPS realizes mobile cloud computing services where vehicles themselves or mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets of drivers or passengers in vehicles) play a role of both cloud server and cloud client in the vehicular cloud. First, this paper describes the architecture of vehicular networks for VCPS and the delay modeling for the event prediction and data delivery, such as a mobile node's travel delay along its navigation path and the packet delivery delay in vehicular networks. Second, the paper explains two VCPS applications as smart road services for the driving efficiency and safety through the vehicular cloud, such as interactive navigation and pedestrian protection. Last, the paper discusses further research issues for VCPS for smart road networks.
This study is about the investigation of the walking environment of the First Experimental Elementary School in Shapingba District of Chongqing City and the Zaozilanya Elementary School in Yuzhong District and the analysis of the pedestrian's consciousness. The improvement plan is obtained by comparing and analyzing the walking environment around the school. The survey results are as follows. According to the survey results of the walking environment around the school, the sidewalks of the two schools are relatively narrow, and there are more pedestrians crossing the road. There is a phenomenon of parking in both schools. The phenomenon of parking in Zaozilanya Elementary School is even more serious. In investigating the most important elements of the school's pedestrian environment, the setting of the signpost, the setting of the crosswalk and signal lights, the setting of the fence, the setting of the vehicle's deceleration facilities, and the control of the school gate are all necessary. Therefore, in order to create a safe and comfortable improvement plan for the surrounding environment of the school, first of all, in the improvement of the facilities around the school, the setting of the fence, the setting of the speed bump, the improvement of the crosswalk and the signal light. Second, in terms of restrictions, the scope of protection around the school needs to be expanded, and restrictions on parking and restrictions on vehicle traffic need to be implemented. Third, in terms of education and publicity, it is not only necessary to provide safety guidance for students to go to school, but also to provide drivers with driving safety education and publicity.
Due to the rapid increase in the number of vehicles, the physical and human losses caused by traffic accidents have become serious social problems. In the global trend, there have been active studies conducted on improving safety level of automobile in order to reduce the number of automobile accident. As a result of such research, traffic accidents continue to decline. In the case of South Korea, however, rate of death by automobile accident is 8.5 per 10,000 people and it is a seven rank among the countries in OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). This average rate is almost double compared to average automobile accident rate per 10,000 vehicles, of other OECD countries in 2015. Consequently, many studies and policies currently have been conducted and made for increasing safety of pedestrians; however, they are only emphasizing characteristics of pedestrians and drivers. For this reason, this study suggests scenarios for establishment of test standard corresponding with domestic environment and international standard of AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) and conducts a real car test by scenarios by setting up a goal with a function for remaining distance after braking and then examine equation by comparing real car tests results and outcome after calculation. This is a theoretical method to predict a relative remaining distance after AEB prior to conducting a real car test for evaluation of safeness of automobile with AEB and it is expected that it solves problem of complication of real car test.
A school zone means a certain section designated among facilities, such as schools, childcare facilities, academies, etc., to protect children from the risk of traffic accidents. Since the school zone was established in September 1995, school zone accidents have not decreased even though it has been strengthened through a total of nine revisions until January 2021. This paper aims to present a standard model for child protection zones based on disaster prevention design. Methods of research included literature research, empirical research, and cognition research. Awareness survey was conducted on children, parents and drivers. Environmental surveys included crosswalks, motorways, pedestrian roads, and traffic lights. The investigation found that visual recognition of school zones by vehicle drivers was difficult, and found that motorcycles using pedestrian roads were a very threat to children. Accordingly, improved school zone standard model design centered on disaster prevention design was presented.

Since the mid 1990s, policies have been actively promoted to improve safety and pedestrian environment around the school such as the improvement of School zone. However, the prevention of accidents was not effective because it did not extend to the school road where the main transportation route for children's commuting takes place. In addition, due to the rapid increase of automobiles, trunk road traffic in the peak time bypasses the back roads, which threatens children's safety and the environment by invading the school area, which is the main living space of children. In this study, the characteristics of domestic children's traffic accidents were investigated and the problems were analyzed by conducting a field survey on Yeouido Secondary School in Seoul and Unjung Elementary School in Gyeonggi Province. In addition, Variable speed limit signs and Beacons were installed in the pedestrian road of comunity including School zone, and the effects of facilities on the speed of vehicles were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the Variable speed limit sign showed a deceleration effect of about 8.3km/h, and the Beacon showed a phenomenon in which the traveling speed of 0.8km/h increased only slightly. In addition, the traffic violation rate of passenger cars, buses, and lorries decreased by about 3% as a result of investigating the number of traffic violation vehicles before and after installation.
Detecting remote targets is important to active protection system (APS) or infrared search and track (IRST) applications. In normal situation, the well-known constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector works properly. However, decoys in APS or closely spaced targets in IRST degrade the detection capability by increasing background noise level in the CFAR detector. This paper presents a context aware CFAR detector by the intensity sorting and selection of background region to reduce the effect of neighboring targets that lead to incorrect estimation of background statistics. The existence of neighboring targets can be recognized by intensity sorting where neighboring targets usually show highest ranks. The proposed background statistics (mean, standard deviation) estimation method from median local pixels can be aware of the background context and reduce the effects of the neighboring targets, which increase the signal-to-clutter ratio. The experimental results on the synthetic APS sequence, real adjacent target sequence, and remote pedestrian sequence validated that the proposed method produced an enhanced detection rate with the same false alarm rate compared with the hysteresis-CFAR (H-CFAR) detection.
