Pedestrian traffic needs to be accurately quantified to predict effectively pedestrian traffic accidents, however, pedestrian traffic is more difficult to measure than vehicle traffic. In this study, we suggest the time-and cost-effective application of mobile closed-circuit television (CCTV) using a smartphone as an alternative that can collect and analyze real-time data with little. In the present investigation, the pedestrian-vehicle conflict that can develop into an accident was defined as the pedestrian accident exposure. After installing mobile CCTV in 40 sections of Dongseong-ro, Daegu, the pedestrian accident exposure was estimated through negative binomial regression analysis using the collected data. The results of the analysis showed statistically significant changes in the pedestrian accident exposure variables. Based on the present results, a pedestrian accident exposure estimation model was developed which can be used in sections where pedestrian accidents may occur.

This study identified the factors which affect pedestrian behavior using the tobit model with a descriptive analysis. Individual characteristics, household characteristics, zone characteristics were selected as the independent variables. Walking frequency and walking time was adopted for the variables which represent walking behavior. The results showed that the walking time models were superior than the walking frequency models. The model for education purpose had the most lowest fitness and the model for others purpose had characteristics mixed up the various purposes. Futhermore, this research found that independent variables: individual, household and zone characteristic variables affected walking activities of elderly pedestrian by purpose. The walking activity decresed when a pedestrian grew older or had a vehicle or a driver's license. The Elderly facilities promoted the walking activity of seniors. As the floor area of neighborhood and business facilities was wide, the walking activities were animated. In addition, the compacted downtown developments decreased the elderly's walking activities, so it is needed to consider those results in terms of the urban planners.

This study aims to analyze region-based pedestrian evacuation behaviors and information offering effect using Social Force Model, which is micro simulation. All pedestrians were assumed to move to shelters through pedestrian roads according to guidance information at emergency situations, and the pedestrians were classified into adults and the handicapped. According to the results of the road network analysis and simulation analysis, the shelters to which pedestrians can move within the shortest time from each zone were selected as optimum shelters. From this study, the analysis showed that the information provision effects are informative even though total evacuation time increases due to the increase of pedestrian conflict. This study can be used as baseline data for urban area's pedestrian disaster prevention plans.

This study aims to identify the throw distance in terms of truck weight, bumper height, and speed in a truck and pedestrian collision, and to propose a model for throw distance estimates. For this purpose, a simulation analysis is performed using the PC-crash program with the following experiment conditions: Truck weight of 5t, 15t, and 25t, Bumper height from 0.3m to 0.6m by 0.1m, and speed from 10km/h to 100km/h by 10 km/h. Experimental results show that the truck speed and bumper height are found to be significant factors for pedestrian throw distance, but truck weight is not a significant factor. Also, a regression model is developed for pedestrian throw distance estimate from the multiple regression analysis. The adjusted $R^2$ value of the model is 93.3%, which is very good explanatory power.

Object recognition is one of the key technologies of the monitoring system for the prevention of various intelligent crimes. The height is one of the physical information of a person, and it may be important information for identification of the person. In this paper, a method which can detect pedestrians from CCTV images and estimate the height of the detected objects, is proposed. In this method, GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model) method was used to separate the moving object from the background and the pedestrian was detected using the conditions such as the width-height ratio and the size of the candidate objects. The proposed method was applied to the CCTV video, and the height of the pedestrian at far-distance, middle- distance, near-distance was estimated for the same person, and the accuracy was evaluated. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can estimate the height of the pedestrian as the accuracy of 97% for the short-range, 98% for the medium-range, and more than 97% for the far-range. The image sizes for the same pedestrian are different as the position of him in the image, it is shown that the proposed algorithm can estimate the height of pedestrian for various position effectively.
A number of standard type of steel-box pedestrian bridges are constructed in th metropolitan high way or heavy traffic urban area. Although it has the advantage of speedy construction because of its simple structural form and prefabricated erection method, it has been reported that many of these bridges are deteriorated or damaged and thus are in the state such that it would give unsafe and uncomfortable feeling to pedestrians. In the paper, for the realistic assessment of safety and load carrying capacity of deteriorated and/or damaged steel box pedestrian bridges, an interactive non-linear limit state model is formulated based on the von Mises' combined stress yield criterion. It has been demonstrated that the proposed model is effective for the reliability-based safety assessment and load carrying capacity evaluation of steel-box pedestrian bridges. In addition, this study suggests an effective and practical field load test method for pedestrian bridges.
This study developed a methodology for estimating the fatality reduction by introducing technical regulation on pedestrian protection in pedestrian-vehicle collisions. Modeling a probabilistic pedestrian fatality model with logistic regression approach was one of keen interests, which employed in estimating the fatality reduction. Collision speed obtained from the accident reconstruction was used in the model development. The effects of fatality reduction, in case various Head Injury Criterion (HIC) and collision speeds are applied for the regulation. were presented as the major outcome of this study. It is expected that the outcome of this study would be an invaluable tool to assist in developing various technologies and policies for pedestrian protection.
The government continues to make efforts to improve effectiveness, integration and connectivity of public transportation systems. But there have been only a few studies about it. This paper addresses the quality evaluation of pedestrian facility service in transfer stations at urban railroad. LOS (Level Of Service) model of urban railroad by facility based on the body ellipse and density recalculated considering the recent Korean body standard and the suggested Pedestrian Moving Equivalent (PME) and Pedestrian Waiting Equivalent (PWE). For LOS model for the ticket booths and ticket vending machines, queuing theory has been applied to determine LOS of Pedestrians. And the importance weights among the pedestrian facilities is obtained by applying AHP analysis. Lastly, this paper shows and discusses the evaluation results of overall LOS of pedestrian facilities of five urban railroad transfer stations in Seoul.

Under the current law or system, the range of traffic accident on the crosswalk does not reflect the characteristics of traffic accident and the pedestrian's walking pattern. Thus, this study conducted a video recording survey on the 250 spots which are high to traffic accident rate of pedestrian-vehicle to reset the range of traffic accident on or near the crosswalk considering the characteristics of traffic accident and the pedestrian's walking pattern. Based on the collected data through a video recording survey, this study analyzed the pattern of pedestrians and extracted the variables influenced in the pedestrian's walking pattern. After conducting the regression analysis, this study made the model of measuring the range of traffic accident on the crosswalk. Through all processes these, this study reset the range of traffic accident on the crosswalk which could minimize the disadvantages of pedestrian when they have an accident on the crosswalk and ensure the right of way of pedestrian.
The study of pedestrian behavior covers wide topics, including way finding, choice and decision make, as well as spatial cognition and environmental perception. To address the problem, simulation is now put forward as suitable technique and method for analyzing human spatial behavior. In the paper we present a development architecture for simulating tracking pedestrian in a distributed environment. We introduce and explore the potential of using mobile agent-enabled distributed implementation model as a tool for development and implementation of the simulation. Three kinds of mobile agents are designed for implementation of managing and querying data of pedestrian. Finally, simulation result of JR 10,000 passengers’ movement is developed and implemented as a case study.
