B-site Cationic Ordering Structures of Donor-Doped Relaxor Ferroelectric $Pb({Mg_{1/3}}{Nb_{2/3})}O_3$ (전자 주게가 첨가된 완화형 강유전체 $Pb({Mg_{1/3}}{Nb_{2/3})}O_2$의 B자리 양이온 질서배열구조)

  • Single phase $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics doped by 10 mol% of electron donors such as $La^3,\; Pr^{3+,4+},\; Nd^{3+},\; Sm^{3+}$, were synthesized and their B-site cationic ordering structures were investigated by XRD and TEM. In the XRD patterns, only fundamental reflections were observed for the undoped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$, while the (h/2 $\textsc{k}$/2ι/2)(h,$\textsc{k}$,ι all odd) superlattice reflections resulting from the 1:1 ordering induced unit cell doubling were also observed for the donor-doped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. In the TEM selected area diffraction patterns, the (h/2 k/2 l/2)(h,k,l all odd) superlattice reflection spots as well as the fundamental reflection spots were observed for all the samples, but the relative intensities of the superlattice reflection spots to the fundamental reflection spots were significantly enhanced by the donor-doping. In the TEM dark-field images, antiphase boundaries were observed only for the donor-doped $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. It was therefore experimentally verified that doping by electron donors such as $La^3,\; Pr^{3+,4+},\; Nd^{3+},\; Sm^{3+}$, enhances the B-site cationic 1:1 ordering in $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$. These experimental results were interpreted in terms of the charge compensation mechanism.

  • Pb(In$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_3$의 제조시 전구체로서 tetragonal pyrochlore(Pb$_3$Nb$_2$O$_{8}$)를 사용하였을 때, 페로브스카이트상의 상합성을 촉진시키고 유전특성을 향상시키기 위해 A(B$_1$,B$_2$) 구조에서 A자리에 해당하는 PbO와 B$_1$자리에 해당하는 In$_2$O$_3$를 각각 과량으로 첨가하여 900-110$0^{\circ}C$의 소결온도범위에서 상합성, 소결특성, 유전특성에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다. 과량으로 첨가된 PbO는 상합성 및 소결특성을 향상시킬 수 있어서 유전특성을 향상시킬 수 있었으나 과량으로 첨가된 In$_2$O$_3$에서는 그러한 결과를 얻을 수 없었다. 이러한 원인은 Pb$_3$Nb$_2$O$_{8}$을 전구체로 사용할 경우, PbO 공융액상이 페로브스카이트상 형성 직전까지 남아 있어서 활발한 PbO 휘발이 일어나는데, 과량으로 첨가된 PbO가 이를 효과적으로 보상하기 때문인 것으로 판단된다.

  • PbO contained multicomponent glass and fibers have been obtained by melting process and double crucible method. PbO containing glass is most promising for fabrication of high-numerical aperture optical fiber. In this study, main composition is $SiO_2$, PbO and glass composition mix component oxide such as $K_2O$, $Na_2O$, $B_2O_3$, $A1_2O_3$. Also, the optical, mechanical and structural properties of manufactured fibers by double crucible method are investigated.

  • Single phae Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-based solid solutions, the Mg2+ of which are replaced by 20mol% of Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and the Pb2+ of which are replaced by 0∼20 mol% of La3+, were synthesized and their ordering structures of B-site cations were investigated by XRD and TEM. The B'-site cations (Mg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+) are disordered while these B'-site cations and the B"-site cations (Nb5+) are nonstoichiometrically 1:1 ordered within the ordered nano-domains dispersed in the Nb5+-rich disordered matrix. The charge imbalance between the B'-rich ordered nano-domains and the B"-rich disordered matrix are compensated by the doping of electron donor such as La3+, which enhances the degree of nonstoichiometric 1:1 ordering. For a given La3+ content, the degree of nonstoichiometric 1:1 ordering increases as the average ionic size difference between the B'-and B"-site cations increases, Ni2+

Uptake and Tolerance to Lead in Populus alba × glandulosa and Betula Schmidtii (현사시와 박달나무의 Pb 흡수능력(吸收能力) 및 내성(耐性))

  • This study was conducted to estimate the capability of Populus alba ${\times}$ glandulosa and Betula schmidtii for the uptake of Pb from the lead-contaminated soil and their tolerance to lead. Rooted cuttings in the former species and germinated seedlings in the latter species were planted in pots and irrigated with Pb-containing water for 60 days. In both tree species, growth inhibition was observed in 800, and 1,500ppm of $Pb(NO_3)_2$. Most Pb was accumulated in plant roots and only a small portion was transported to the shoots. The translocation rates of Pb for B. schmidtii and P. alba ${\times}$ glandulosa were 1.6-2.6% and 1.2-1.6%, respectively. The maximum Pb content accumulated in shoots was 468.0mg/kg d.w. in P. alba ${\times}$ glandulosa, and 602.0mg/kg d.w. in B. schmidtii. Although tolerance to lead was generally higher in B. schmidtii than P. alba ${\times}$ glandulosa, the highest tolerance to lead was observed in P. alba ${\times}$ glandulosa clone, 72-16. Finally, we discussed the applicability of P. alba ${\times}$ glandulosa and B. schmidtii for phytoextraction based on their Pb uptake ability, high biomass production, and easiness in large-scale cultivation.

  • This study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of $PbO_2$ electrode for the purpose of degradation of N,N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of OH radical), generation of ozone and decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water. The effect of the applied current (0.2~1.2 A), electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl and $Na_2SO_4$), electrolyte concentration (0.0~2.5 g/L) and solution pH (3~11) were evaluated. Experimental results showed that RhB and RNO removal were increased with the increase of current, NaCl dosage and decrease of pH. Ozone generation tendencies appeared with the almost similar to the RhB and RNO degradation, except of solution pH (Ozone generation was increased with increase of pH). Optimum current for RhB degradation and consumption of electric power was 1.0 A. The RhB degradation with Cl type electrolyte were higher than that with the sulfate type. Optimum NaCl dosage for RhB degradation was 1.0 g/L.

Characteristics of Superconductive Pb shield for a Whole Head MEG System (헬멧형 뇌자도 장치로의 활용을 위한 Pb 초전도 차폐의 특성)

  • We have investigated the characteristics of a superconductive Pb shield for hemispherical shape and plate to improving signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of biomagnetism. We measured the shielding factor for the position of helmet shape Pb and for changing the distance from Pb surface. To make a uniform magnetic field, a $1.5m{\times}1.5m$ set of the helmholtz coils activated at several frequencies. The shielding factor of hemispherical shape Pb was from 20 to 57 dB and of Pb plate was about $6{\sim}26dB$ as a function of distance from the lead surface. The shielding factor was rapidly reduced as increasing the distance from Pb surface. The white noise of superconductive quantum interference device(SQUID) with a superconductive shield was about $12fT/Hz^{1/2}$ at 1 Hz, $7fT/Hz^{1/2}$ at 100 Hz. The white noise was more increased about two times than conventional SQUID system without Pb shielding. An auditory signal was measured by first order gradiometer and magnetometer with Pb superconductive shield and compared the SNR. The SQUID system with Pb shield had better performance at low frequency noise level.

Electronic Structure Study of the Formal Oxidation States of Lead and Copper in $Pb_2Sr_2ACu_3O_8$ (A=Ln, Ln+Sr, or Ln+Ca) and Their Possible Changes upon Oxidation

  • We examined the formal oxidation states of Pb and Cu in the Pb2CuO4 slab of Pb2Sr2ACu3O8(A=Y1-xCaxor Nd1-xSrx) and their possible changes by oxygen incorporation in the Cu layer of the slab by performing tight-binding band electronic structure calculations on the Pb2CuO4+δ slab. Our results show that the most likely oxidation state of Pb is +2 and that of Cu is +1 for the Pb2CuO4 slab prior to oxidation. With small δ values, the oxygen incorporation occurs by the formation of such chain fragments as in YBa2Cu3O7-y along the a+b axis. The four-coordinate Cu atoms in the chain fragments are in the +3 oxidation states. For values of δ larger than 0.5, however, an additional oxygen (Oad) goes to the site along the b axis to form short Pb-Oad distances oxidizing Pb2+ to Pb4+. This change in the Pb oxidation state leads to the suppression of superconductivity due to the decrease of holes in the CuO2 layer.

Effects of ZnO and PbO on the Magnetic Properties of Sr-ferrite (ZnO와 PbO가 Sr-페라이트의 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of ZnO, PbO and SiO2 on the grain growth and magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite were investigated. (1) Addition of ZnO to Sr-ferrite increased remanence, but decreased coercivity and maximum energy product. (2) Addition of PbO up to 0.5 wt% increased (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite, but addition more than 0.5 wt% decreased (B$.$H)mzx (3) SiO2 addition to the 0.5 wt% PbO doped Sr-ferrite decreased remanence and increased coercivity. The coercivity increase in due to the grain refinement effect of SiO2. But addition of SiO2 more than 0.5 wt% invoked a decrease of coercivity and (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite due to abnormal grain growth. Sr-ferrite magnet having maximum energy product of 3.7MGOe was fabricated by using the roasting product of Pyrrhotite.
