  • Mining sequential patterns is an important research issue in data mining and knowledge discovery with broad applications. However, the existing sequential pattern mining approaches consider only binary frequency values of items in sequences and equal importance/significance values of distinct items. Therefore, they are not applicable to actually represent many real-world scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for mining high-utility sequential patterns for more real-life applicable information extraction from sequence databases with non-binary frequency values of items in sequences and different importance/significance values for distinct items. Moreover, for mining high-utility sequential patterns, we propose two new algorithms: UtilityLevel is a high-utility sequential pattern mining with a level-wise candidate generation approach, and UtilitySpan is a high-utility sequential pattern mining with a pattern growth approach. Extensive performance analyses show that our algorithms are very efficient and scalable for mining high-utility sequential patterns.

  • Dan-chung had many great traditional patterns of Korea. By investigating its patterns, which comprise the integral part of the formative features, and analyzing the aesthetic characteristics and formative beauty, the foundation was set to use the patterns as the motives of art makeup works. A focus was made on the basic elements, compositions and symbolic meanings of Dan-chung patterns. The representative patterns that were used a lot in Dan-chung made the motives of the four art make-up designs, which tried to integrate the aesthetic senses of the Dan-chung patterns into the art makeup venues. The four patterns were each based on the phoenix, bat, ghost face, and crane. The major colors used were white, black, red, blue and yellow, which were also the cardinal Five Colors of Dan-chung. They were changed in terms of luminosity and coma and manipulated to make harmony with intermediate colors so that the designs would ooze out the Korean aesthetic senses.

  • Mental health issues related to depression and individual's patterns of interest impact development. This study is to identify patterns of interest and their effects on depressive symptoms in young adults. This cross-sectional study involved 40 participants. The participants were assessed for depressive symptoms, patterns of interest in daily life, and social participation. The depressive symptoms and patterns of interest were assessed by a well-trained interviewer using a face-to-face method. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and logistic regression analysis were implemented using SPSS 22.0. In terms of depressive symptoms, 32.5% of participants reported no depression, while 67.5% were depressed. When comparing interest patterns from the past, present, and future, the degree of depression was significantly correlated with interests in the past (p<.05). The effect of patterns of interest on depressive symptoms was not statistically significant (p>.05). Participation in a variety of activities can help prevent depressive symptoms. Participation in activities of interest can, therefore, be of great help during middle- and late-adult development.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the visual effect of stripe patterns in one-piece dress. The results of the visual effects are as follows; 1. Comparision with experimental stripe patterns; experimental stripe patterns are likely to appear to be fat and wide in shape, and to be rhythmic, active, modern, unstable, not beautiful and dislike in sense. 2. The correlation between terms; there is a considerable correlation between 'the whole body looks fat 'and' the upper body looks fat'(r=0.84) when experimental stripe patterns are compared with vertical stripe pattern. When experimental stripe patterns compared with horizontal stripe patterns, there is a considerable correlation between 'rhythmic' and 'active' (r=0.90). 3. The results of factor analysis: commonly, factor 1 resulted in character of bodily shape and factor 2 resulted in sensuous charactor.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fitness according to drafting method of the block patterns for women in Korea. The major findings of this study are as follows: 1. According to each sensory test of the frontal view, back view, side view and silhouette Block Pattern I is the best of them in summation of the sensory tests score. Block, Pattern D and I have good shape too. However the best block Pattern D shows good score in evaluation of overall fitness and silhouette. 2. Most of block patterns, which show high scores in sensory tests, are the Compromise Method taking merits of the Proportional Method and Short Measure Method among the Pattern Drafting Methods. Box-shape patterns show low score in the sensory tests. 3. Regarding to the number of measurement, the patterns of the Compromise Method using 6-8 measurements seem to be optimal. In degree of fitness, loose fit type basic patterns are better than other patterns from a viewpoint of the total satisfaction.

  • A model for teaching traditional Korean rhythmic patterns using Orff's ear training approach was developed and implemented with aim that it could be used as basic data for the operation of Korean music education. Children's rhythmic sense improved through teaching of sound searching, body rhythm, playing instruments, and improvising. Teaching the order of connective rhythmic patterns and a basic patterns-centered approach was more effective than teaching modified rhythmic patterns. With ear training, children perceived the stress of rhythmic patterns in advance and they perceived the length of sound. These results show that this model can be used as a basic approach in the operation of Korean music education.

  • The writer did a survey of current textile patterns for the purpose of identifying a motif trend. After identifying a current motif trend the writer used an IBM PC 386 Computer and Lumena Software to design actual patterns. The results are as follows: 1. The most common currently used prints are floral patterns. 2. Knowing that floral patterns are most popular, the writer established a motif using the Rose of Sharon, the national flower of Korea. 3. Using computer graphics to move, enlarge and scale-down motif, the writer has been able to design various textile patterns. 4. Creating patterns with computer graphics was not only more efficient, but it also produced more accurate designs and a greater variety of designs. 5. Using the many computer graphic functions avaliable, a greater variety of patterns changes and compositions can be displayed than would be possible if produce by hand. 6. Computer simulations of textiles and clothing made it possible to evaluate the printed fabric or finished product. Faults in the printed fabric or clothing could be corrented before production. Through simulation then it is possible to create higher quality garments and readuce costly mistakes. Thereby greater profits will be realized from the finished garments.

  • Recently, neural network methods have been studied to find out more valuable information in data bases. But the supervised learning methods of neural networks have an overfitting problem, which leads to errors of target patterns. And the unsupervised learning methods can distort important information in the process of regularizing data. Thus they can't efficiently classify data, To solve the problems, this paper introduces a hybrid neural networks HACAB(Hybrid Algorithm combining a Competition learning model And BP Algorithm) combining a competition learning model and 8P algorithm. HACAB is designed for cases which there is no target patterns. HACAB makes target patterns by adopting a competition learning model and classifies input patterns using the target patterns by BP algorithm. HACAB is evaluated with random input patterns and Iris data In cases of no target patterns, HACAB can classify data more effectively than BP algorithm does.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine contents and activities of patterns and functions in the 7th national curriculum for elementary school mathematics and textbooks developed based on it. Through examination, several conclusions were drawn as follow. First, pattern need to be introduced as a way of doing mathematics not as a subject of mathematics. Finding patterns is one of the most important mean to do mathematics. Second, activities for patterns and functions must be organized coherently. Coherent means that mathematical ideas are linked to and build on one another so that students' understanding and knowledge deepens and their ability to apply mathematics expands. Third, independent lessons for patterns and functions are needed. In these lessons, various activities need finding patterns can be introduced to help students understand mathematics. Fourth, the linkage between patterns and functions should be strengthened.

  • Transferring patterns from mold to PDMS stamp is very useful technology in micro-fabrication, complex and three-dimensional structures. First experimentation, mold's patterns wens transferred to PDMS stamp. Comparing with PDMS stamp and Mold, patterns were transferred about 97.9%. Second experimentation, PDMS stamps were made several times by only one mold, scale and distance of transferred patterns were uniform about 89.3%. We proved that transferring patterns from mold to PDMS stamp is accurate. The uniformity of stamps is the same after mold was used several times. Transferring patterns from mold to PDMS stamp has uniformity and accuracy, it will be useful technology.
