  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the macroscopic spray characteristics and spray pattern of a gasoline direct injection (GDI) injector according to the increase of injection pressure. The macroscopic spray characteristics, such as a spray tip penetration and spray angle, were measured and analyzed from the frozen spray images, which are obtained from the spray visualization system including the high-speed camera, light-source, long-distance microscope (LDM). The spray pattern was analyzed through the deviation of the center of the spray plum and images were acquired using Nd: YAG Laser and ICCD(Intensified charge coupled device) camera. From the experiment and analysis, it revealed that the injection pressure have a significant influence on the spray tip penetration and spray pattern. However, the injection pressure have little influence on the spray angle. The increase of injection pressure induced the reduction of a closing delay. In addition, the deviation of spray center increase with the increase of injection pressure and the distance from a nozzle tip.

  • Considerable number of women are enjoying swimming, however, the chest-region of swimsuits including cup inserts are not stable during swimming. The purpose of this study was to explore alternate designs and methods of stabilizing the breast cup to the swimmer's body by using 3D technology to design and position the pad and cup pattern of the swimming suit. To position the pad optimally, a 3D pattern of a nude woman was divided into blocks and different reduction rates were applied to blocks around the outlines of the breast. Two types of 3D patterns were developed. The first, referred to as the 'basic 3D pattern' provided for the curved surface of the breast point to be maintained with the remaining slack distributed evenly along the neckline, armhole and side seam. The second, referred to as the '1/3 shoulder moved 3D pattern' ignored the curved nature of the breast point by overlapping, with the resulting position of the shoulder strip moved toward the center. Three women of corresponding size and body shape evaluated the two 3D pattern designs as well as the conventional 2D pattern style of swimsuit. Respondents rated the'the basic 3D pattern' design highest in terms of stability and easy of movement in the chest region.

  • Most of the existing pattern mining techniques are capable of searching patterns according to the continuous change of the spatial information of an object but there is no constraint on the spatial information that must be included in the extracted pattern. Thus, the existing techniques are not applicable to the optimal path search between specific nodes or path prediction considering the nodes that a moving object is required to round during a unit time. In this paper, the precision of the path search according to the spatial hierarchy is analyzed using the Spatial-Temporal Optimal Moving Pattern(with Frequency & Weight) (STOPM(FW)) algorithm which searches for the optimal moving path by considering the most frequent pattern and other weighted factors such as time and cost. The result of analysis shows that the database retrieval time is minimized through the reduction of retrieval range applying with the spatial constraints. Also, the optimal moving pattern is efficiently obtained by considering whether the moving pattern is included in each hierarchical spatial scope of the spatial hierarchy or not.

  • A new heuristic method for loading pattern search has been developed to overcome short-comings of the algorithmic approach. To reduce the size of vast solution space, general shuffling rules, a regionwise shuffling method, and a pattern grouping method were introduced. The entropy theory was applied to classify possible loading patterns into groups with similarity between them. The pattern search program was implemented with use of the PROLOG language. A two-group nodal code MEDIUM-2D was used for analysis of power distribution in the core. The above mentioned methodology has been tested to show effectiveness in reducing of solution space down to a few hundred pattern groups. Burnable poison rods were then arranged in each pattern group in accordance with burnable poison distribution rules, which led to further reduction of the solution space to several scores of acceptable pattern groups. The method of maximizing cycle length(MCL) and minimizing power-peaking factor(MPF) were applied to search for specific useful loading patterns from the acceptable pattern groups. Thus, several specific loading patterns that have low power-peaking factor and large cycle length were successfully searched from the selected pattern groups.

  • Six different types of velocity profiles of trolley movement of a container crane are investigated for the minimal sway angle at the target trolley position. Three velocity patterns which include trapezoidal, stepped and notched-type velocity patterns are obtained assuming constant rope length. The notched type velocity pattern is shown to be derived from the time-optimal bang-bang control. The stepped type velocity pattern can be shown to be derived as bang-off bang control as well. Considering the damping effect due to hoist motion a double stage acceleration pattern is also analyzed. The main objective of the paper is to show how much time-reduction can be obtained among several velocity patterns appearing in the literature.

  • As the silence of vehicle is more important, noise reduction of tire is more required. Noise of tire is divided into structure home noise and air borne noise. Tire tread has the property such as Hardness. Pattern Noise is caused by changing of tread hardness. This property has influence on the mechanisms which are Block Impact & Stick-slip sound. In the study, we found that the effect of Hardness is related to more Stick-Slip than Impact.

  • We have investigated pattern scaling down of silicon stamps through the oxidation technique, During oxidizing the silicon stamps, silicon dioxide that has 300 nm and 500 nm thickness was grown, and critical deformations were not observed in the patterns. There was positive effect to reduce size of patterns because vertical and horizontal patterns have different orientation. We achieved pattern reduction rate of $26\%$. In addition, the formation of polymer patterns had been investigated with varied temperature and pressure conditions to improve the filling characteristics of polymers during nanoimprint lithography when pattern sizes were few micrometers. In these varied conditions, polymers had been affected by free space compensation and elastic stress relaxation for filling the cavities. Based on the results, defect control which is an important issue in the nanoimprint lithography were facilitated.

  • The results of a numerical study on the performance of a propeller operating near a free surface are presented. The numerical simulations were performed for the various advance coefficients and the submergence depths of the model propeller. The effects of the model propeller size were investigated using two different model propeller sizes for all cases. The wave pattern of the free surface and the flow structure around the propeller as well as the hydrodynamic characteristics of the propeller were investigated through simulation results. The thrust and torque fluctuated and the trajectory of the tip vortex was distorted due to the interaction with the free surface. The wave pattern of the free surface was related to the tip vortex of the propeller. The decreases in thrust and torque at the small model propeller were greater than those of the large model propeller. The reduction rate of the thrust and torque increased with the advance coefficient.

  • This paper presents a current control strategy to reduce torque ripple of Brushless DC Motor in commutation period with PWM pattern. The torque ripple is mainly caused by the inequality in the rate of change between rising current and decaying one during commutation. And also it is influenced by the shape of real back EMF. Therefore, in the proposed control strategy, considering real back EMF a compensation voltage is generated to equalize the rate of change in these commutating currents. And then, by providing the compensation voltage in commutation period with PWM pattern, the torque ripple can be reduced. The simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed method can reduce the torque and the current ripples significantly.
