바퀴/4 족 동작 전환으로 계단 및 문턱 오르기가 가능한 서비스 하이브리드 이동 로봇 개발 (Development of a Service Hybrid Mobile Robot for Climbing Stairs and Thresholds by Switching Wheel and Leg Gait)

  • In this paper, we developed a new hybrid mobile robot which can climb stairs and go over thresholds by crawl gait with embedded real-time control software. This robot is also categorized into hybrid robot that has advantages of wheeled mobile robot and legged mobile robot, but adopts gait feature of crocodile named belly crawl. We imitated the belly crawl using four legs of 2 DOF, four omni-directional wheels, and embedded control software which controls legs and wheels. This software is developed using RTAI/Linux, real-time drivers. As a result, the new hybrid mobile robot has crawl gait. Using this feature, the new hybrid mobile robot can climb stairs and go over thresholds just by path planning of each leg with size of stairs and thresholds, and computing the movement distance of robot body center without considering stability. The performance of our new hybrid mobile robot is verified via experiments.

  • An analytic solution approach to the time-varying obstacle avoidance problem is pursued. We formulate the problem in robot joint space(JS), and introduce the view-time concept to deal with the time-varying obstacles. The view-time is a set of continuous times in which a time-varying obstacle is viewed and approximated by an equivalent stationary obstacle. The equivalent stationary obstacle is transformed into the JS obstacle. In JS, the path and trajectory avoiding the JS obstacle is planned.

  • This paper describes the path planning method in an unknown environment for an autonomous mobile robot equipped with CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) camera. The mobile robot moves along the guideline. The CCD camera is useful to detect the existence of a guideline. The wavelet transform is used to find the edge of guideline. Using wavelet transform, we can make an image processing more easily and rapidly. We make a fuzzy control rule using image data then make a decision the position and the navigation of the mobile robot. The center value that indicates the center of guideline is the input of fuzzy logic controller and the steering angle of the mobile robot is the fuzzy output. Some actual experiments for the mobile robot applied fuzzy control show that the mobile robot effectively moves to target position.

Self-organization of Swarm Systems by Association

  • This paper presents a framework for decentralized control of self-organizing swarm systems based on the artificial potential functions (APFs). The framework explores the benefits by associating agents based on position information to realize complex swarming behaviors. A key development is the introduction of a set of association rules by APFs that effectively deal with a host of swarming issues such as flexible and agile formation. In this scheme, multiple agents in a swarm self-organize to flock and achieve formation control through attractive and repulsive forces among themselves using APFs. In particular, this paper presents an association rule for swarming that requires less movement for each agent and compact formation among agents. Extensive simulations are presented to illustrate the viability of the proposed framework.

  • Currently, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is spreading from recreational purposes to the public- and commercial-use product areas. Various efforts are being made worldwide to ensure the safety of UAVs and expand their service applications and convenience, because autonomous flights are becoming increasingly popular. In order for a UAV to perform autonomous flight and mission without operator assistance, environmental perception technology, path planning technology, and flight control technology are needed. In this article, we present recent trends in these technologies.

  • In this paper, we present a deployable bio-inspired robot called the Pillbot-light, which utilizes a safe autonomous navigation system. The Pillbot-light is mounted the station robot, and can be operated in a disaster relief operation or military operation. However, the Pilbot-light has a challenge to navigate autonomously because the Pilbot-light cannot be equipped with various sensors. As a result, we propose a new robot system for autonomous navigation that the station robot controls Pillbot-light equipped with vision camera and CPU of high performance. This system detects obstacles based on the edge extraction using vision camera. Also, it cannot only achieve path planning using the hazard cost function, but also localization using the Particle Filter. And this system is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • A collision-free trajectory planning algorithm using the iterative learning concept is proposed for dual robot arms in a 3-D workspace to accurately follow their specified paths with constant velocities. Specifically, a collision-free trajectory minimizing the trajectory error is obtained first by employing the linear programming technique. Then the total operating time is iteratively adjusted based on the maximum trajectory error of the previous iteration so that the collision-free trajectory has no deviation from the specified path and also the operating time is near-minimal.

  • Large-scale three-wheeled cleaning robots are utilized to clean large spaces such as warehouses and manufacturing plants where significant floor contamination occurs. Although there are autonomous cleaning robots, user-operated cleaning robots are often preferred because they are easy to repair and inexpensive. Therefore, workers have to spend extra time on cleaning, which reduces work efficiency. In this paper, we propose an autonomous driving system designed to automate the operation while maintaining the structure of existing cleaning robots. The contributions of this paper are as follows: 1) Hardware modules that control the driving and steering components. 2) A LiDAR-based autonomous driving system and path point generation system considering the mechanical characteristics of the cleaning robot. 3) The proposed system is implemented on an actual cleaning robot and driving tests are performed. As a result, when path planning is performed to cover the cleaning area, the average RMSE for each straight path is 0.0802 m, which is smaller than the minimum cleaning overlap of 0.3 m that occurs during the straight cleaning of the robot. This shows that the proposed system effectively covers the entire cleaning area.

  • 스테레오 카메라를 갖춘 인간형 로봇이 자율적으로 주변 상황을 인지하면서 목적지까지의 경로를 실시간으로 생성 및 수정하는 간단한 알고리즘을 제시한다. 특징점들을 시각적 이미지에서 추출함으로써 주위의 장애물들을 인지한다. 인간형 로봇의 뒤뚱거리는 보행 움직임을 모델링함으로써 로봇의 중심부 기준에서의 실제 경로를 유추하여 계획된 경로와 비교함으로써 시각적 피드백 제어를 구현하고 성공적인 네비게이션을 수행한다. 실제 인간형 로봇의 네비게이션 실험을 통해 제안된 알고리즘의 가능성을 입증한다.

영상처리와 확장칼만필터를 이용한 쿼드로터의 동적 물체 추종 (Dynamic Object Tracking of a Quad-rotor with Image Processing and an Extended Kalman Filter)

  • This paper proposes a new strategy for a quad-rotor to track a moving object efficiently by using image processing and an extended Kalman filter. The goal of path planning for the quad-rotor is to design an optimal path from the start point to the destination point. To lengthen the freight time of the quad-rotor, an optimal path is required to reduce the energy consumption. To track a moving object, the mark signed on the moving object has been detected by a camera mounted first on the quad-rotor. The center coordinates of the mark and its area are calculated through the blob analysis which is one type of image processing. The mark coordinates are utilized to obtain information on the motion direction and the area of the mark is utilized to recognize whether the object moves backward or forward from the camera on the quad-rotor. In addition, an extended Kalman filter has been applied to predict the direction and speed of the dynamically moving object. Through these schemes, it is aimed that the quad-rotor can track the dynamic object efficiently in terms of flight distance and time. Through the two different route freights of the quad-rotor, the performance of the proposed system has been demonstrated.
