Development of Data Model for Design Information Representation of Steel Bridges (강교량 설계정보 표현을 위한 데이터모델 개발)

  • In each industry field, many engineers have tried to develop integrated environments using information technology. The core technology in building integrated environments is the database based on standardized information. To meet the requirements, this study builds a database with detailed design information as a part of integrating digital information generated from every work of steel bridges. The data model used to build the database was developed based on the international standard, namely ISO/STEP. The data model is classified into geometric and non-geometric parts to represent the design information of steel bridges. The geometric parts are represented by a three dimensional solid model so that they may be able to reuse existing information. Also, the non-geometric parts represent information requirements that are analyzed by the development method of standard data model. To verify the data model, this study validates the syntax of the model on EXPRESS Engine and verifies the validation of the model by applying the design data of Hannam bridge to the database.

  • Today the tastes of consumers change rapidly and the kinds of the products become diverse. Therefore the product life cycle becomes shorter and shorter. Moreover the save of resources and the recycling for the environmental preservation are the essential theme. On this the necessary information for the product development increases enormously. For the right use of the information the design process should be supported by the proper design tool. For this the 'design catalogue system for recycling' is suggested here. This system consists of four parts, that is, 'the existing automobile system database', 'working principle database', 'assessment system of the ease of disassembly' and 'one's own product development database'. By the use of this system the product development period could be reduced about $30\%$ drastically.

  • The planning of part feeder and other manufacturing automation equipments is almost always underestimated. Planning ahead for those crucial pitfalls can permit steps to take to minimize heir impacts, especially if the problems can be discovered in the planning phase, not on the shop floor. Planning process is an engineering process, namely a series of trade-offs. The effective trade-offs in the shortest amount of time can be possible with the help of a computer-aided ngineering (CAE) technique. The main parts of CAE fur part feeder are database system of fabricated workpiece parts, part feeders, part feeder components. In this study, a planning process of part feeder is presented. Especially, a systematic analysis of workpiece parts and part feeders is performed for the design of databases of CAE system.

Construction of a Spatial Database for Realizing Precision Farming (정밀농업 구현을 위한 공간 데이터베이스 구축)

  • Database as a supporting system for decision-making is one of essential parts for realizing precision farming. Application models on constructing a database for precision farming, including collection of spatial and attribute data, were suggested using a GPS, DXF files, AutoCAD, a Java application program and PostgreSQL DBMS in this study. The constructed spatial database based on the schema design of spatial and attribute data table was evaluated as a supporting system for decision-making by a simulation of a virtual variable-rate chemical applicator. The applicator could extract the values of soil property at its consecutive location in the tested field in communication with the constructed database, and prescribe the corresponding variable-rate of chemicals. The results of the study suggested the possibility that the constructed database can function a supporting system for decision-making for precision farming.

A comparison of three design tree based search algorithms for the detection of engineering parts constructed with CATIA V5 in large databases

  • This paper presents three different search engines for the detection of CAD-parts in large databases. The analysis of the contained information is performed by the export of the data that is stored in the structure trees of the CAD-models. A preparation program generates one XML-file for every model, which in addition to including the data of the structure tree, also owns certain physical properties of each part. The first search engine is specializes in the discovery of standard parts, like screws or washers. The second program uses certain user input as search parameters, and therefore has the ability to perform personalized queries. The third one compares one given reference part with all parts in the database, and locates files that are identical, or similar to, the reference part. All approaches run automatically, and have the analysis of the structure tree in common. Files constructed with CATIA V5, and search engines written with Python have been used for the implementation. The paper also includes a short comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of each program, as well as a performance test.

  • Purpose of this paper is to accummulate database of automotive steel sheet from mild steel to high strength steel in cold rolled steel sheets. Physical properties, mainly mechanical properties, of steel sheet are tested and all data are arranged to one sheet. Methods of test are composed of FLD, tensile strength test, chemical composition, surface roughness and product conditions. Finally this database will be helpful to automotive body designers and die designers to design automotive body parts and tools in a material point of view.

  • The object of this work is to develop an assessment system for pipeline integrity. The internal algorithm and the database of the system are described in this paper. The system consists of four module applications; the effect of corrosion in pipeline, crack, SCC (stress corrosion cracking) and fatigue module. The database of the system is separated to mainly four parts; geometry of pipeline, material properties, boundary condition and general properties. This system may give a guideline for maintenance and modifications.

  • In this paper, an automated design system of suspension and steering parts is developed. The system automates the processes of 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting of the parts. In addition, the BOM and dimension data of the designed part is also automatically transferred to the database of ERP system. The system is developed by using the functions of parametric design and API(application Programming Interface) of the a commercial solid modeler.

  • Quality elements and evaluation methods should be considered according to the characteristics of spatial database. The purpose of this study is to propose specific methods for quality evaluation focusing on land database which are an important parts of spatial database. Through the study, of quality evaluation for selected quality elements are specified, which are based on the construction processes of the topogaphical database, cadastral database, and zoning database. Position accuracy, attribute accuracy, consistency, completeness, temporal accuracy, believability, and lineage are selected as the quality elements of land database. A various statistical and mathematical skills are proposed for measurement and assesment methods of quality elements.

  • The globally used PV qualification tests and reports the pass/fail only. Therefore, the reliability of new PV materials and parts can't be compared quantitatively with the reliability of the PV parts and materials in the market. Global PV materials and parts companies test and compare their materials, parts, and modules using the failure-to-test (FTT). However, it takes a long accelerated stress test (AST) until failure. It also needs to test the new and existing materials and parts. Therefore, it requires excessive equipment time and cost. In order to reduce the time and cost, a new reliability enhancement methodology has been developed. It tests the PV materials, parts, and modules in the global market and stores them in the PV reliability database. It reduces the time and cost of the comparison and enhancement of PV reliability. An example of the reliability enhancement of the PV encapsulant, EVA is presented.
