The measuring system of the Partial discharge(PD) is very essential to investigate the hazard defects in the insulation systems of the high voltage engineering. We will discussed this research which has included two parts. The proposed method of Foil Sensor Array(FSA) and the normally used method in the practice. Firstly, it will be shown the improved sensitivity of a FSA sensor, which is our aim, compare with the existing normal foil sensor. And then, the linearity of detecting sensitivities of various kinds of FSA sensors was shown. According to our experiments, we can see that FSA sensor is more sensitivity than normal foil sensor and the linear increment property of FSA sensitivities.
In this study, we developed intelligent spacer built in the internal type UHF PD sensors. 3-Dimensional electro-magnetic simulations were performed to analyze electric-field distribution of the single-phase GIS and three-phase GIS. After considering the spacer's specification, Sensor structures were designed and analyzed using the 3-D EM Simulator. As a result of the simulation the internal type UHF PD sensors were built in. Performance of the sensor built into real scale GIS spacer was measured in terms of return loss and detected Max voltage. And we identified a character of the intelligent spacer by using 5pC partial discharge cell.
This paper dealt with the frequency spectrum analysis of acoustic signal produced by partial discharge (PD) in insulation oil and the positioning of PD occurrence to apply in diagnosis of oil insulated transformers. Three types of electrode system ; the needle-plane, the plane-plane, and the wire-wire structure were assembled to simulate partial discharges in oil insulated transformers. A low-noise amplifier and a decoupling circuit were designed to detect acoustic signal with high sensitivity The frequency spectrum of the acoustic signal were 50 kHz ${\sim}$ 260 kHz in the needle-plane, 50 kHz ${\sim}$ 250 kHz in the plane-plane, and 45 kHz${\sim}$195 kHz in the wire-wire electrode system. Their peak frequencies were 145 kHz, 130 kHz and 114 kHz, respectively The position of PD occurrence was calculated by the time difference of arrival (TOA) using three acoustic emission (AE) sensors, and we could find the position within the error of 1 % in the experimental apparatus.
The objective of this paper is to effectively detect partial discharges in XLPE power cables. In this field, we have been usually applied several sensors for such partial discharges. This study used a type of beyond compare antenna based on the influence of background noises. Also, we designed a new structure that is able to easily apply in the adhesion of planar patch types for XLPE power cables in measurement sensitiveness elevation. A high frequency simulation tool (CST-MWS) was applied to the antenna used in this study, and it was used to evaluate certain characteristics. We fabricated an antenna using the simulation data obtained from a specific test. After checking the sensitivity of this Planar Patch Sensor in the Lab, it was tested in an actual site. This paper analyzed the data as a part of time and frequency domain using an oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer, respectively.

Detecting acoustic emission (AE) provides an appropriate method to diagonize on-line transformers, since acoustic signal is not influenced by strong electric field. Then AE versus AE signal processing method is investigated. But this processing is difficult that decision of starting point of AE wave with acoustic noise. This problem is sloved by correlation which calculate time interval between two signals eactly. This paper presents a technique locating the eact position of the partial discharge (PD) in a power transformer by the correlation of the AE signals from two ultrasonic sensors. And PD position is displayed on monitor. Laboratory tests confirmed that the proposed method can be used for locating the PD in power transformer.
This paper presents an acoustic emission(AE) technique using ultrasonic sensors to diagonize power transformers. Conventional methods detect and measure the electrical signal of the partial discharge(PD) of transformers in operation. The proposed techniques measures the acoustic signal generated by the partial discharge, and counts the number of the waveforms above a threshold to diagonize transformers. Experiments showed that the proposed method improved diagonosis capability over the conventional PD method.
The UHF electromagnetic waves excited by PD pulses propagate along the GIS busbar not only TEM mode, but also TE and TM mode. Generally the waves detected by the UHF sensors are those of high order modes and such waves can only propagate higher than cut-off frequency. In this paper, the cut-off frequency of 362[kV] GIS for each modes is computed and the electromagnetic field of each propagation modes is simulated by FEM(Finite Element Method) program. Frequency band of each TEmn/TMmn modes was determinated by simulation results and was discussed optimal position of UHF sensor from this results.
In recent the on-line partial discharge (PD) measurement using sensors, such as EMC, SSC, RTD and RFCT, as an indicator of stator winding insulation condition has been developed. RFCT sensor was placed arounding a grounding lead of surge capacitor to detecting PD. Trend of PD magnitude/phase angle/pulse number over time are useful parameter to diagnosis aging state. We have developed Radio Frequency Current Transformer(RFCT) sensor which is suitable for PD diagnostic measurement in 6.6kV rotating machines. In this paper, we describe the characteristics of RFCT sensor, such as frequency and PD magnitude using 6.6 kV model stator winding in Lab.
A study for discharge pattern analysis partial and fault location by use of UHF sensors in GIS. However, in the latter case, the results considered the velocity of EM waves modified by the waveguide characteristics of GIS bus bar were not reported yet. In this paper, UHF wide band sensor to detect partial discharge signals have been designed and manufactured to get the widest band characteristic by an application of Fat-Dipole UHF antenna and the result that the transmission velocity of EM waves is 2/3 of the light have been got through the consideration of waveguide characteristics. Also, to verify applicability on site of the developed method, self-designed external type UHF sensor have been installed on operating GIS in Korea Midland Power co. and detected location of the fault. Through the fault have been found at the location, the reliability of the developed method have been proved.
