  • The purpose of this study was to report the effect of Korean medicine and acupuncture in jaw tremor with Agitation. We studied two inpatients who had jaw tremor with agitation in the OO University Korean medicine hospital. They was treated with acupuncture (LU8, LR4, HT3, LR2) and herbal medicine. The effect of treatment was evaluated by Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and motor examination of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRSIII). Both VAS of jaw tremor symptom and agitation and UPDRSIII score of tremor were decreased. The result suggest the combination treatment of herbal medicine and acupuncture might be effective for the jaw tremor with agitation.

  • Spasmodic dysphonia, essential tremor, and vocal tremor related with Parkinson's disease are different disorders showing fairly similar symptoms such as difficulty in the speech onset, and tremble in the voice. However, the cause and the resulting treatment of these diseases are different. Spasmodic dysphonia is a vocal disorder characterized by spasms of the laryngeal muscles during a speech, invoking broken, tense, forced, and strangled voice patterns. Such difficult-to-treat dysphonia disease is classified as central-origin-focal dystonia, of a yet unknown etiology. Its symptoms arise because of intermittent and involuntary muscle contractions during speech. Essential tremor, on the other hand, is characterized by a rhythmic laryngeal movement, resulting in alterations of rhythmic pitch and loudness during speech or even at rest. Severe cases of tremor may cause speech breaks like those of adductor spasmodic dysphonia. In the case of hyper-functional tension of vocal folds and accompanying tremors, it is necessary to distinguish these disorders from muscular dysfunction. A diversified assessment through the performance of specific speech tasks and a thorough understanding for the identification of the disorder is necessary for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of patients with vocal tremors.

  • Purpose: To investigate whether there are significant changes in regional brain metabolism in patients with Parkinson's disease after thalamotomy using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (lH MRS). Methods: Fifteen patients with Parkinson's disease of mean age 56.5 years (7 males and 8 females; mean age, 56.5 years) that have treated with levodopa were included. All patients with tremor experienced amelioration of their symptoms on the side contralateral to the thalamotomy. As a single-voxel technique, 1H MR spectra were obtained from the volume of interested regions in thalamus and primary motor cortex. Spectral parameters were: 20 ms TE, 2000 ms TR, 128 averages, 2500 Hz spectral width, and 2048 data points. Results: We found that NAA/Cho ratios showed generally low levels in thalamus in Parkinson's disease patients with clinical improvement following thalamotomy. Conclusions: 1H MRS may be a useful utility for the aid in better understanding the pathophy-siologic process in Parkinson's disease patients on the basis of the variation of NAA/Cho ratio. Acknowledgement: This study was supported by a grant of the Center for Functional and Metabolic Imaging Technology, Ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea (02-PJ3-PG6-EV07-0002).

  • One of the methods for Parkinson's disease(PD) tremor evaluation is the Clinical Tremor Rating Scale(CTRS). However, the method has some limitations that clinician ratings can vary because the scores are subjectively rated. In addition, most researches usually collected data measured on the more affected arm. In this study, we developed a portable wearable system(SNUMAP system) for measuring PD tremor. The SNUMAP system captures 3-dimensional motion using tri-accelerometer and tri-gyroscope on finger and wrist. 40 PD patients participated in resting tremor and postural tremor tasks, while wearing the system on both hands simultaneously. Estimated tremor scores from Leave-One-Out Cross Validation for regression were highly correlated to the average clinician CTRS scores for rest tremor($r^2$ = 0.87, RMSE = 0.48) and postural tremor($r^2$ = 0.82, RMSE = 0.48). Therefore, the quantitative assessment model can improve treatment of PD patients.

  • Tremor is an most common abnormal movements disease which is to-and-fro shaking. It is caused by problems -with the nerves supplying certain muscles. It can affect the whole body or just certain areas. Parkinson's disease, Brain disease like injury of Frontal lobe, Cerebellum and Brainstem, drug and alcohol caused this symptom. It could be occured by physiological and Essential cause. In this paper, authors report three cases who showed tremor after Cerebral infarction. And we suggest that 'Ssanghwa-Tang' should be helpful for tremor patients.

  • Objectives : This study aims to sort out prescription candidates for four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease from Korean traditional medical publication, "Dongeuibogam". Methods : Medical terms related to four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease were primarily selected from "Dongeuibogam". Prescriptions that include at least one or more medical terms which are selected above were classified by the four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and finally analyzed to sort the most effective candidates. Results & Conclusions : 1. There are 18 medical terms in efficacy ($ch{\grave{i}}$ $z{\grave{o}}ng$, $j{\bar{u}}$ $lu{\acute{a}}n$, $j{\bar{i}}ng$${\check{u}}$ $ju{\check{a}}n$($ju{\check{a}}n$, $qu{\acute{a}}n$) $lu{\acute{a}}n$, $j{\bar{i}}ng$${\check{u}}$ $lu{\acute{a}}n$($lu{\acute{a}}n$) $t{\grave{o}}ng$, $j{\bar{i}}n$ $lu{\acute{a}}n$, $j{\bar{i}}n$ $t{\grave{i}}$, $sh{\check{o}}u$ $zh{\grave{e}}n$, $y{\acute{a}}ng$ $sh{\check{o}}u$, $lu{\acute{a}}n$ $j{\acute{i}}$, $lu{\acute{a}}n$ $b{\grave{i}}$, $r{\grave{o}}u$ $r{\acute{u}}n$, $zh{\grave{a}}n$ $di{\grave{a}}o$, $zh{\grave{a}}n$ $y{\acute{a}}o$, $zh{\grave{i}}$ $z{\acute{u}}$, $ch{\grave{e}}$ $t{\grave{o}}ng$, $ch{\bar{o}u}$ $ch{\grave{e}}$, $f{\bar{e}}ng$ $ch{\grave{u}}$, $ch{\grave{u}}$ $nu{\grave{o}}$) related to tremor, one of four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease. 2.
