  • For the exact classification of the arm motion this paper proposes EMG pattern recognition method with neural network. For this autoregressive coefficient, linear cepstrum coefficient, and adaptive cepstrum coefficient are selected for the feature parameter of EMG signal, and they are extracted from time series EMG signal. For the function recognition of the feature parameter a radial basis function network, a field of neural network is designed. For the improvement of recognition rate, a number of radial basis function network are combined in parallel, comparing with a backpropagation neural network an existing method.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a computer simulation program for analyzing load transmission characteristics of a helical gear system in design stage. In this analysis, the rotational delay, load distribution, root stress, and contact area are investigated. That is, the influence function of deflection is obtained by finite element analysis and the influence function of approach and gear tooth error are considered. Load distribution, rotational delay, and contact area are calculated by solving load-deflection equation which includes these influence functions and tooth error, and the influence function of the bending moment is obtained by finite element analysis. The root stress is calculated by the load distribution and the influence function of the bending moment. The results of the simulation are cross-checked through a specially designed experimental set-up.

  • A trend in software reliability engineering is to take into account the coverage growth behavior during testing. A coverage growth function that represents the coverage growth behavior is an essential factor in software reliability models. When multiple competitive coverage growth functions are available, there is a need for a criterion to select the best coverage growth functions. This paper proposes a selection criterion based on the prediction error. The conditional coverage growth function is introduced for predicting future coverage growth. Then the sum of the squares of the prediction error is defined and used for selecting the best coverage growth function.

  • Baldwin defined the approximate reasoning using truth function mapping. In paper [4], we defined two truth function mappings and applied these truth function mappings to generalized modus ponens. In this paper, we introduce the results of generalized modus tollens using these two truth function mappings.

  • This study aimed to determine the effect of McKenzie lumbar support on pulmonary function in Stroke patients. Twenty subjects (n=20) were divided into two groups: a McKenzie lumbar support group (MLS group=10), a control group (n=10). Pulmonary function was performed to assess its effectiveness. A spirometer was used to measure the forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow (PEF). The intervention was conducted for four weeks. In the MLS group, FEV1, FVC, and PEF were increased after McKenzie lumbar support. (p<0.05), while no significant differences in the variables were found in the control group (p>0.05). There were no significant differences in variables between the MLS group and the control group (p>0.05). Our findings suggest that applying Mckenzie lumbar support may be an alternative maneuver to improve pulmonary function in stroke patients.

  • The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of kinesio taping on pulmonary function in stroke patients using manual wheelchairs. Twenty stroke patients were divided into a wood chair group (WCG, n=10), a wheelchairs group (WG, n=10), and a kinesio taping with wheelchairs group (KWG, n=10). Taping with wheelchairs group was applied kinesio taping on back muscles (vertical paraspinal strips and oblique strips). All three groups were trained in upright seated posture for 30 minutes. Pulmonary function tests were performed with forced expiratory volume in one second, forced vital capacity and peak expiratory flow as spirometer. There was a significant increase in forced expiratory volume in one second and forced vital capacity only in KWG. The results of this study demonstrate that kinesio taping has an immediate effect on the improvement of pulmonary function in stroke patients using manual wheelchairs.

  • In this paper, we suggest a combined cost function to find out the optimal operation of an envelope tracking system, and evaluated its performance with Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) waveform, with which envelope tracking coefficients for the peak drain efficiency and the bandwidth of power amplifiers are determined. Based on the classical envelope tracking theory, the operation of the supply modulator, which is a key part of the envelope tracking process, is modeled and analyzed mathematically. Then characteristics of the modulator by setting envelope shaping function as a cubic polynomial and sweeping the coefficients of this function was analyzed. By sweeping the coefficients, efficiency and bandwidth at each condition with 64-QAM signal was used to obtain optimal point of the supply modulator. Compared to the conventional shaping functions, the optimized function showed the bandwidth reduction by 12.7 percent point while the efficiency was maintained.

  • In this paper, we consider inner inheritance of parent objects to their child objects in SR DEVS. The inheritance process of function is implemented by the inside inheritance function when the inherited parent object is determined. In the inside inheritance, the integrity and fragment inheritance can be divided as th asset property. Also, the function process is requested when the inheritance selection in th inheritance is occurred to several assets. The child object can receive assets from the parent object through the determination method of selection function to the inside inheritance.

  • The line simplification method based on the turning function is studied in this paper for conversion of ground plan data to geospatial data to update the digital map. This method eliminate vertices effectively by estimating the length and the angle between the vertices based on the turning function which is useful to express the shape of linear feature. As the result, this method shows high shape similarity, high elimination rate of vertices and 100% of satisfaction degree to the drawing rules. Thus this line simplification method is judged to be effective in updating the digital map with ground plans.
