  • 본논문은 n이 음이 아닌 정수로서 X+A>O 일 때, f(x)=(X+A)$^{-n}$ 모양의 확률변수 X의 기대치를 구하는 문제를 연구한 것이다. 이 문제는 이미 CHAO, STRAWDERMAN에 의해서 연구된바 있으나, 여기서는 더욱 간단하게 단순한 결과를 얻었으며 n=1일 때는 양 결과는 일치한다.

  • We discuss some aspects of mathematics for teachers such as algebra for teachers, geometry for teachers, statistics for teachers, etc., which can be taught in teacher preparation courses. Mathematics for teachers should consider the followings: (a) Various solutions for a problem, (b) The dynamics of a problem introduced by change of condition, (c) Relationship of mathematics to real life, (d) Mathematics history and historical issues, (e) The difference between pure mathematics and pedagogical mathematics, (f) Understanding of the theoretical backgrounds, and (g) Understanding advanced mathematics.

  • The phospholipase $A_2$-catalyzed transesterification of phosphatidylcholine (PC, 95%) with nervonic acid (NA, 95%) was successfully carried out in an organic solvent. The maximum yield after 48 h was 10.3% (w/w) at $50^{\circ}C$ with an initial water activity ($a_w$) of 0.16, and a molar ratio of NA to PC of 20 in 5 ml ethyl acetate.

  • Hirabayashi Ichiei has sought theoretical improvement of educational studies in mathematics from the standpoint that educational studies in mathematics should be practical. His beliefs and subsequent attempts have many implications for Korean educational studies in mathematics. In this regard, it is meaningful to examine his theory of mathematics education. But he is not well-known in Korean community of educational studies in mathematics today. For this reason, His life and theory of mathematics education are outlined.

  • The education of mathematics in generalized schooling should aim to concentrate on the cultivation of mathematical abilities necessary for social life. Mathemeatical abilities for social life run as follows: A. Utilitarian aspects 1. classification and numbers 2. traffic network and connection of segments of lines 3. expectation of getting the winning number in a lottery 4. interests in dealing in unharvested rice crop B. Aesthetic aspects 1. finding the optimum value and 2. successful candidates in accordance with election methods Every nation has its own peculiar customs and circumstances. Therefore, in order to achieve the expected results, the education of mathematics should develop what every nation has on its own and apply them to school education.

Education and Professional Development of Mathematics Teachers in Korea

  • It is undeniable that teachers play the principal roles in education. This is why education and professional development of teachers are so important. Some of recent works have made this fact clearer. In America, in particular, many reports and research papers have recently been published on these problems. In this paper, we first introduce briefly the current system of education, employment, and professional development of mathematics teachers in Korea. And then we mention a research project on education of mathematics teachers. The final report of the project contains some suggestions for curriculums of the department for education of mathematics teachers. We describe one example of extended syllabus which implements those suggestions. The example is on Modern Algebra I.
