Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in social quotient and sensory processing function between completed-toileting and incomplete-toileting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We aims to provide a basis for the training of children with autism spectrum disorders. Methods : The subjects of this research were children with ASD, aged from 4 to 7, receiving sensory integration therapy at the H-Child Development Research Center in Busan, South Korea. After recruiting 30 parents who had children with ASD, we interviewed them and we divided their children into completed-toileting group and incomplete-toileting group based on the past researches. We assessed them using the Social Maturity Scale and Sensory Profile. Spearman correlation was used to analyze between the sensory processing score and social quotient. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the Sensory Profile scores of the two groups. Results : The social quotient was correlated with the sensory processing score in the most of component as for auditory processing, vestibular processing, touch processing, multisensory processing, orosensory processing, except for visual processing. The groups of completed-toileting and incomplete-toileting group showed statistically significant intergroup difference in sensory seeking, emotional reactive, oral-sensory sensitivity, and inattention/distractibility in the sensory factor region. No statistically significant difference from intergroup was observed in any modulation areas, nor in behavioral & emotional response domains. Conclusion : A significant intergroup difference was observed in the most of sensory processing areas, except for modulation areas and behavioral & emotional response domains. The result revealed that toileting is significantly correlated with sensory processing. Therefore, this study suggests that the sensory processing function should be considered in the toilet training of children with ASD.
The principal objective of this study was to evaluate the consumption behavior of housewives in the Jeonju area with respect to their use of environmentally-friendly agricultural products(EAPs) and to assess the need for EAPs in childcare centers also in the Jeonju area. Self-administered questionnaires were given to and collected from 278 housewives 42.4% of whom employed and 57.6% were unemployed. Statistical data analysis was performed on the data collected using SPSS v. 12.0. The average score of awareness about EAPs was $3.57{\pm}0.56$. The percentage of subjects who purchased EAPS was 76.3% regularly. On this group, 40.3% purchased EAPs 1~2 times in week. Unemployed housewives purchased more than employed housewives by a statistically significant margin(p<0.05). The most-purchased EAPs were vegetables. The average satisfaction score that housewives reported in relation to foodservice provided in childcare centers was $3.66{\pm}0.58$. About 65% of the respondents felt that the EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers was an important factor for them in choosing of a childcare centers. Approximately 42% of the housewives responded that EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers was needed to improve the safety of foodservice provided in chidcare centers. The percentage of subjects who wanted to expand EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers even though the parents would have to bear some of the financial burden was 42.5%. A higher proportion of employed housewives wanted to expand EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers more than unemployed housewives, and this finding was statistically significant(p<0.05).
Gender and intelligence of children, parenting practices and socioeconomic status of parents were studied to investigate whether they functioned as protective factors for resilient children. Total of 556 children of 12 years of age were contacted for the study. Teachers were asked to rate the children's interpersonal competence. Children reported their experience of stressful life events on a checklist. Based on the competence scores and the experience of stressful life events, 107 children were classified into adaptive, resilient, and maladaptive group. IQ scores were assessed using an intelligence test for the 107 children. Mothers reported their parenting practices and their socioeconomic status through a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-squares, t-tests, and one-way ANOVAs were performed to analyze the data. There was no difference in their experience of stressful life events between boys and girls. Girls were rated as being more competent by their teachers. There were more girls in the adaptive and the resilient group and more boys in the maladaptive group. Children in adaptive and the resilient group had higher intelligence scores than the maladaptive group. Mothers of resilient children replied as being warm and acceptive and more refusing and controlling than mothers of the adaptive children Group differences in socioeconomic status of the family were not found. Thus, being a girl and having higher IQ scores were the protective factors for the resilient children.
The purpose of this study is to enhance elementary students' awareness of environment-friendly life and help them to prepare for a better life in the future. To achieve this purpose we examined the effect typical environmental experience-based learning activities, which were based on the local circumstances with high environmental-educational potential, have on the attitudes toward environment-friendly life. This study was carried out on the basis of typical environmental experience-based learning in the small class size. The research group used was composed of one sixth grade elementary school class called Sangroksu, whose total students were 9. The research period lasted from March 2005 to February 2006. To analyze the result of this study, two research methods were applied simultaneously : quantitative research methods and qualitative research methods. Especially statistical analysis in quantitative research methods by self-administrated questionnaire was done with SAS program. Qualitative research methods were analyzed in a cyclic pattern, including the processes of domain analysis, classification analysis, and factor analysis which continued to be associated with data-collecting methods. This research shows the following results. First of all, students have shown meaningful differences after typical environmental experience-based learning activities.(p<.05). Followings are fields of the differences - students‘ interest on the subject, their understanding levels of necessity for basic environmental facilities around us as well as for the kinds of environmental experience-based learning, awareness levels of various environmental problems, consciousness on environment conservation, and the practicing ability of environment - friendly lifestyles. Secondly, We have discovered improvements in the following fields after this study - the knowledge and understanding levels on our environment and human relationships, students' fundamental abilities to work out environmental problems, right ideas and appropriate attitudes on environment protection, the practicing ability of environment-friendly life styles, and their parents' understanding levels on the education related to environment. In conclusion, typical environmental experience-based learning activities have a positive effect on the improvement of elementary school students' environment-friendly life styles.
The purpose of this study was to examine the ethical attitudes of consumers in consumption situations by using the consumer ethics scale(CES). Self-administrated questionnaires were completed by 492 consumers, and the resulting data were analysed by frequency, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and cluster analysis. We found four different groups of consumers were identified according to their ethical attitudes in consumption situations: 1) the unethical onlooker consumer group, 2) the socialized unethical consumer group, 3) the ethical consumer group, and 4) the severely unethical consumer group. The unethical onlooker consumer group was most widespread prevalent among university students who were in their 20s and down or under, and who received spending money from their parents, and the socialized unethical consumer group was most prevailing prevalent among the higher educated consumers. The women who consumers slightly outnumbered men in an the ethical consumer group, slightly outnumbered the men who did, and many of the university-educated large income earners fell into this group consumed in that way as well. The severely unethical consumer group was quite uncommon among those who were at the age of 41 and up over, and not many of the higher educated people and larger income earners consumed in an the severely unethical consumer group, either. Thus, it's proven this study proves that in terms of the propensity to consume, the consumers' were different from one another in ethical attitudes and behaviors differ according to their demographic characteristics.
Nursing science is focusing increasingly on family health care. Especially during the launching stage of family the grown-up sons daughters, and middlescent parents daughters have experienced a lot of change. The purpose of this study is to investigate the family health during the launching stage of the family by utilizing the family health assessment tool based on Roy's adaptation model. The Roy adaptation model was used as it is the best practice-based framework for Family Health Nursing Care. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The structure of the questionnaire was developed from the Family Health Assessment Tool by S.O. Jang(1996). The sample of 276 subjects was a convenient sample and data was obtained from November 14, 1996 to December 4, 1996. In order to analyze the collected data, this study utilized frequency, percentile, average, ANOVA, Cronbach's, and factor analysis. The results from this research are summarized as follows : 1. The degree of family health is average $95.24{\pm}9.40$ ranged in middle. 2. The significant difference between general characteristics and family health was only revealed with the major decision making person in the family. This research thus suggests the following : 1. The legal system is needed in order to check the family members' health state regularly. 2. With family nursing care, it has to identify who is the major decision maker in that family. 3. There is a need to redefine the family health assessment tool. 4. Further research will attempt to investigate family health in each family's developmental stage.
The purpose of this study was to identify middle-school boys' purchase behavior according to their shoes shopping orientation. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect from 314 subjects. Factor analysis, Chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA were done using SPSS PC (Ver. 18.0). Most middle-school boys selected shoes that were 255~270mm, possessed on to two pairs of school shoes, searched for information for about five days before purchase, had spent 50,000~150,000 won on one to two pairs of shoes during the previous six months, saw design, comfort, and brand as their selection criteria, chose their shoes by themselves, shoes specialty stores, had favorite brands, preferred athletic shoes made of achromatic canvas, and bought new shoes when their old ones wore out. Factors of shoe shopping orientation were fashion and brand, economy, conformity, and comfort, and students were grouped into an active shopping group, an underdeveloped shopping orientation group, and a value pursuit group. The active shopping group bought more shoes, spent more on shoes, selected their shoes themselves, patronized discount shoe stores or specialty stores, and preferred national brand shoes. The underdeveloped shopping orientation group accepted their friends' opinions when selecting shoes and bought cheaper shoes. The value pursuit group accepted their parents' opinions when selecting shoes, patronized internet shopping malls or traditional markets, and selected cheaper shoes. The shoe shopping orientation of middle-school boys was immature, but they showed strong consumption needs.
Purpose: This study intends to clarify the relative importance and character of the college student's attachment to their parents. We examined the effect that the father and mother attachments have en their self-efficacy and adjustment to their college life. Method: The subjects were 271 students who attendee a university. For this study, we used the inventory of the Parent Attachment-Revised version by Armsden and Greenberg, a self-efficacy test by Sherer et al. and the investigation far adjustment to college life by Barker & Siryk. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and simple multiple regression analysis on an SPSS WIN 10.0 program. Results: There was a significant differences in the attachment to the father according to their grades and in the attachment to the mother according to their type of residence. There was a significant difference in the adjustment to their college life according to their grades. Regression analysis on attachment and self-efficacy suggested that attachment has an influence on self-efficacy. Regression analysis on attachment and adjustment to college life suggested that attachment has influence on the adjustment to college life. Attachment also has an influence on academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and institutional adjustment on the subscale of adjustment to college life. Regression analysis on self-efficacy and adjustment to college life suggested that self-efficacy has an influence on adjustment to college life. Further, self-efficacy has an influence on academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and institutional adjustment on the subscale of adjustment to college life. Conclusion: This study shows that there are relationships among attachment, self-efficacy and adjustment to college life. Especially, self-efficacy is a very important factor influencing the adjustment to college life. So, a plan designed to increase students' self-efficacy should be created based on the results of this study.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to test the validity and reliability of FACES III when applied to the only one and two family members, and to use more appropriately in the nursing practice. Method: Data were collected from 105 college students and 105 of their parents in two local nursing colleges. The original questionnaire, which was originally developed by Olson(1989), was modified by based on literature review and analyzed by correlation coefficient, Cronbach's α, Guttmans split coefficients and factor analysis. Result: Cronbach's αof the adaptability and cohesion were .77, .73(Guttmans split coefficient were .76, .71) when applied to the only one family member, and were .81, .77 (Guttmans split coefficient were .81, .77) when applied to two. The Pearson's correlation coefficient of the adaptability and cohesion between two family members were .38, .35. The total-item correlations of the other items except for items 5, 7, 13 were significant. The correlation coefficients between adaptability and cohesion when applied to only one and two were .30, .38(p < .01). When the data was analyzed by principle component analysis and Varimax rotation with the number of factors fixed to two, two factors explained 37.2% of total variance in the case of one member, and 42.2% of total variance in two. Conclusion: These results suggested that the concept and the construction validity of cohesion needed to be more clarified. Also It is required that the reliability and validity of FACES III should be tested in two more family members.
The purpose of this study was to extend the social teaming and imitation theory in an attempt to examine the effect of star-entertainer imitation behavior on clothing behaviors in relation to adolescents' age and gender variables. The research was a survey and the subjects were 895 adolescents in Taejon, Korea. The measuring instruments was serif-administrated questionnaire consisted of star-entertainer imitation behaviors and clothing behaviors. The collected data were analyzed using factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test. Results were as fellows: 1) The results of analysing the response of star-entertainer imitation behaviors showed that adolescents had very positive attitudes and high psychological need to identify self with star-entertainers, however, their actual identification behaviors were not very noticeable because of parents' restraint and school regulations on students' appearances and clothing behaviors. 2) The results of analysing the response of clothing behaviors showed four factors such as 'fashion$.$clothing interest', 'psychological dependency on clothing' , 'clothing exhibition', and 'clothing conformity'. 3) Star-entertainer imitation behaviors had significant effects on clothing behaviors; the group with more star-entertainer imitation behaviors showed more fashion$.$clothing interest, higher psychological dependency on clothing and clothing exhibition, and lower clothing conformity than the group with less star-entertainer imitation behaviors. 4) Clothing behaviors showed the differences according as adolescents' age and gender; the female adolescents showed more fashion$.$clothing interest and clothing exhibition than male, the high school and cortege age groups showed higher psychological dependency on clothing than other age groups. It is concluded that the results of this study support social teaming and imitation theory since TV media give strong influence on the TV viewers through presenting various modeling stimuli to adolescents' lives.
