This study examined the relationships of parental behavior control recognized by children and its effect on children's emotional intelligence and conflict resolution strategies in their peer friendships. Subjects were 521 $5^{th}$, $6^{th}$ grade elementary school Children in seoul. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, multiple regression and path analysis. Result showed that parents' control of children's behavior affected children's conflict resolution strategies in peer friendships and affected their emotional intelligence. Path analysis showed that control by parents, demand for maturity and clarity of communication directly affected compromising-integrating strategies. Parental control was affected directly by dominating strategies. Controlling behavior by demand of maturity, clarity of communication and nurture influenced compromising-integrating, avoidance and concession strategies of children's emotional intelligence.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate effective parental controls by age of child. The subjects participating in this study were 10, 12, 15, and 18-year-old school boys residing in Seoul. A total of 1,468 boys was used in the final analysis. Factor analysis and multiple regression of SPSS $PC^+$ were utilized to test the hypotheses. The findings of the analysis showed that the impact of various parental controls on antisocial behavior varied with developmental stages of the children. Younger boys were more susceptible to direct controls, while indirect controls proved more effective for older youngsters.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the intergenerational transmission of the family violence. The focus of the study is on the effect of the parental violent behavior on the child's aggression. For this purpose, 266 6th grade children in Seoul are classified into the two groups according to their aggression rated by their teachers. The results are as follow: 1. There are social class differences in the level of the child's aggression, experience of parent-to-child violence and parental marital violence. 2. Experiencing parent-to-child violence and parental marital violence greately affected the level of the child's aggression. The effects are greater for the children who observed parental marital violence than who experienced child violence. 3. Father-to-mother violence rather than mother-to-father violence affected the level of the child's aggression, especially for the boys.
Objectives: This study was conducted to identify health-promoting behaviors and related factors by type of residence between two groups of college students: those who live in dormitories and those who commute from home. Methods: We used the data from 2,287 students (870 male, 1417 female) from 14 colleges in Daegu and Kyungpook areas and compared health-promoting practice scores, general characteristics, health environment, and parental support. Multiple regression analysis was performed with health-promoting practice scores as a dependent variable. Results: Dormitory residents presented significantly lower health-promoting practice scores than commuters in both gender. Multiple regression analysis showed that the factors associated with health-promoting behaviors were health environment (p<0.05) and parental influence/support (p<0.01) for male dormitory residents. For female dormitory residents interest in health(p<0.05), stress(p<0.05), and parental influence/support(p<0.01) were associated. Conclusions: Systematic development of health education programs would be needed for the practice of health promotion behavior of college dormitory students with the help of environmental and institutional support. We suggest a program for stress management, smoking, health behavior, and alcohol and a parental program to increase contact with their children for a positive parental influence and support.

Physical abuse was found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, but emotional abuse was found significantly different according to job of the father and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. And, neglect was found significantly different according to educational level of the father and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Social withdrawal was found significantly cliff erent according to gender of the child, family income and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, but hyperactivity was found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Agression and retreat were found significantly different according to gender of the child and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents. Obsessive-compulsion was found significantly different according to unreasonable_ rearing behavior of the parents. 2.There were significantly positive correlation between parental abuse and maladjustment. 3. The findings of multiple regression analysis demonstrated that neglect, physical abuse, family income, gender of child were found to be important variables in predicting social with drawal. Neglect, unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents, phsical abuse, gender of child were found to be important variables in predicting hyperactivity. Neglect, emotional abuse, and unreasonable rearing behavior of the parents were found to be important varialbes in predicting aggression. Gender of the child. emotional abuse, and unreasonable reanng behavior. of the parents were found to be important variables in predicting retreat. And, unreasonable rearlng behavior of the parents. neglect. and physical abuse were f ouod to be Importan variabJes in predicting obsessive-compulsion.lsion.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parental stress, social support, and coping behavior on burnout among mothers caring for children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Participants in this cross-sectional, descriptive study were 185 mothers who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses with IBM SPSS Win 22 program. Results: Parental stress and coping behavior were strong predictors of burnout among mothers of children with cerebral palsy. These variables explained 50.0% of the variance in burnout. Social support was not a predictor of burnout. A higher level of burnout was associated with higher levels of parental stress and lower levels of social support and coping behavior. Conclusion: Mothers of children with cerebral palsy are vulnerable to burnout. These results show that effective strategies for reducing parental stress and improving positive coping behavior are needed to reduce burnout in these mothers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how parental childrearing behavior and children's sibling relationships are related to children's self-esteem. 440 middle class families consisting of two children and their parents were the subjects of this study. The research instruments included a childrearing behavior questionnaire, the Sibling Relationships Questionnaire (Furman & Buhrmester, 1985), and the Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter, 1985). Analyses of the data included correlation analysis, canonical correlation, regression, stepwise multiple regression, and MANOVA with stepwise discriminant analysis as the follow-up test. The most powerful predictors of children's self-esteem were the Warmth-Acceptance of childrearing behavior and the Warmth-Closeness of sibling relationships. The self-esteem dimension was best predicted by parental childrearing behavior and by children's sibling relationships was Global Self-Worth. Behavioral Conduct was best predicted by the Rejection-Restriction factor of childrearing, and by Conflict (for boys) and Rivalry (for girls) factors of sibling relationships. Children's self-esteem was related more strongly to the Warmth-Acceptance and the Rejection-Restriction of opposite-sex parents. The effects of Permissiveness-Nonintervention were stronger in same-sex parent-child dyads. Parental childrearing behaviors accounted for boy's self-esteem better than girl's with the exception of Behavioral Conduct. Sibling relationships accounted for girl's self-esteem better than boy's. The $2{\times}2$ MANOVA revealed interaction effects of parental childrearing behaviors and sibling relationships on children's self-esteem. Two factors of Rivalry and Conflict in sibling relationships and all three factors of childrearing behaviors showed significant interaction effects, The childrearing factor of Permissiveness-Nonintervention and the sibling factor of Rivalry, which were relatively weak predictors of self-esteem when acting alone, gained power in explaining children's self-esteem within the interactional context.
This study examined links between parental monitoring of child's daily activities, 3 sources of parents' knowledge, and children's deviant behaviors and self-esteem. Participants were 276 tenth grade boys. Children completed questionnaires about parental monitoring and their own internal adjustments and deviant behaviors. High parental control was linked to less deviant behavior in children regardless of children's feelings of being controlled. The association between parental control and children's feelings of being controlled was moderated by children's depression. Parental control was not related to children's depression and self-esteem, and further, children's feelings of being controlled were not related to self-esteem after controlling for depression. The findings suggest that parental control efforts are an effective way to prevent children's deviant behaviors.
Objectives: Adolescent suicide is a global problem. This study aimed to identify associations between parental marital status and suicidal behavior. Methods: This study analyzed 118 715 middle and high school students from the 13th and 14th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. The odds ratios (ORs) of suicidal ideation, planning, and attempts were calculated based on parental marital status, living situation, and socioeconomic factors. The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results: When compared to those living with 2 married biological parents, the ORs of suicidal ideation among adolescents living with either remarried or no parents were 1.34 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.17 to 1.53) and 1.36 (95% CI, 1.11 to 1.66), respectively. For suicidal planning, the OR of those living with 1 remarried biological parent was 1.24 (95% CI, 1.01 to 1.52), and that of those living without parents was 1.28 (95% CI, 0.95 to 1.73), when compared to adolescents living with 2 married biological parents. For suicide attempts, when compared to adolescents with 2 married biological parents, the OR of those living with 1 remarried biological parent was 1.48 (95% CI, 1.17 to 1.87) and that of those living without parents was 2.02 (95% CI, 1.44 to 2.83). For adolescents living with 1 remarried biological parent, suicidal behavior was strongly associated with having no siblings and were weakly associated with not living with grandparents. Conclusions: Suicidal behavior among adolescents was associated with the remarriage and loss of parents. Therefore, special attention and interventions are needed for adolescents in those situations.
