  • Semi-parametric frailty model with nonparametric baseline hazards has been widely used for the analyses of clustered survival-time data. The frailty models can be fitted via an auxiliary Poisson hierarchical generalized linear model (HGLM). For the inferences of the frailty model marginal likelihood, which gives MLE, is often used. The marginal likelihood is usually obtained by integrating out random effects, but it often requires an intractable integration. In this paper, we propose to obtain the MLE via Laplace approximation using a Poisson HGLM approach for semi-parametric frailty model. The proposed HGLM approach uses hierarchical-likelihood (h-likelihood), which avoids integration itself. The proposed method is illustrated using a numerical study.

  • This paper presents the design of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor using parametric design. According to the variation of magnitude of back emf and inductance, characteristic equations of BLDC motor are solved then output power, current, and torque ripples are calculated. Therefore output characteristics of BLDC motor according to motor parameter can be easily understood, and the range of back emf and inductance satisfying required output performance can be easily found. Presented design method leads to the BLDC motor design to be simple and effective, and the optimal design of BLDC motor using parametric design for 3kW with 50000rpm is presented.

  • This article is concerned with the issue of forecasting and evaluation of threshold-asymmetric volatility models for time series of count data. In particular, threshold integer-valued models with conditional Poisson and conditional negative binomial distributions are highlighted. Based on the parametric bootstrap method, some evaluation measures are discussed in terms of one-step ahead forecasting. A parametric bootstrap procedure is explained from which directional measure, magnitude measure and expected cost of misclassification are discussed to evaluate competing models. The cholera data in Bangladesh from 1988 to 2016 is analyzed as a real application.

  • Recently, Alzer and Choi [2] introduced and studied a set of the four linear Euler sums with parameters. These sums are parametric extensions of Flajolet and Salvy's four kinds of linear Euler sums [9]. In this paper, by using the method of residue computations, we will establish two explicit combined formulas involving two parametric linear Euler sums S++p,q (a, b) and S+-p,q (a, b) defined by Alzer and Choi, which can be expressed in terms of a linear combinations of products of trigonometric functions, digamma functions and Hurwitz zeta functions.

  • Vibrations in aerodynamic systems can lead to significant structural and performance issues. This paper presents a novel theorem for actively controlling aerodynamic vibrations through parametric stability analysis. The proposed approach models the aerodynamic system as a dynamic system with parametric excitation, allowing for the identification of stable and unstable regions in the parameter space. By strategically adjusting the system parameters, the vibrations can be effectively suppressed, enhancing the overall reliability and performance of the aerodynamic system. The theoretical underpinnings of the theorem are discussed, and the effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through numerical simulations and experimental validation. The results show the potential of this method for practical implementation in various aerodynamic applications, such as aerospace engineering and wind turbine design.

  • Proposed is an aero-acoustic performance prediction method of axial fan. The fan aerodynamic performance is predicted by combining pitch-averaged quasi 3-D flow analysis with pressure loss models for blade boundary layer and wake, secondary flow, endwall boundary layer and tip leakage flows. Fan noise is assumed to be radiated as dipole distribution type, and its generation is assumed to be mainly due to the vortex street shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex stree shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex street model with thin airfoil theory. The aero-acoustic performance prediction results by the present method are in good agreement with the measured results of several axial fans. With the present prediction method, parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of blade chord length and spacing on the efficiency and the noise level of fan. In the case of lightly loaded fan, both efficiency improvement and noise reduction can be achieved by decreasing chord length or by increasing blade specing. However, when fan is designed at highly loaded condition, the noise reduction by increasing blade spacing penalizes the attaninable efficiency of fan.

  • The structures of induction heating type pressure rice cooker are consisted of oven. top heater plate and locking ring. Because the pressure is applied to their structures, those should be necessary to do the safety evaluation. In this paper, structure analysis is performed for oven structures by using finite element method and as a results, optimal thickness is achieved. Especially, analysis fur anisotropic layered material is performed because oven is made of both stainless steel and aluminum. And both von Mises and Tsai-Wu failure criterion are applied for safety factor. Parametric method is used in order to get the optimal thickness for oven and top heater plate.

  • Active optics is a key technology for future large-aperture space telescopes. In the design of deformable mirrors for space applications, the design parameter trade-off between the number of regularly configured actuators and the correction capability is essential but rarely analyzed, due to the lack of design legacy. This paper presents a parametric module method for integrated modeling of deformable mirrors with regularly configured actuators. A full design parameter space is explored to evaluate the correction capability and the mass of deformable mirrors, using an autoconstructed finite-element parametric modeling method that utilizes manual finite-element meshing for complex structures. These results are used to provide design guidelines for deformable mirrors. The integrated modeling method presented here can be used for future applied optics projects.

  • In general, the interest rate is forecasted by the parametric method which assumes the interest rate follows a certain distribution. However the method has a shortcoming that forecasting ability would decline when the interest rate does not follow the assumed distribution for the stochastic behavior of interest rate. Therefore, the nonparametric method which assumes no particular distribution is regarded as a superior one. This paper compares the interest rate forecasting ability between the two method for the Monetary Stabilization Bond (MSB) market in Korea. The daily and weekly data of the MSB are used during the period of August 9th 1999 to February 7th 2003. In the parametric method, the drift term of the interest rate process shows the linearity while the diffusion term presents non-linear decline. Meanwhile in the nonparametric method, both drift and diffusion terms show the radical change with nonlinearity. The parametric and nonparametric methods present a significant difference in the market price of interest rate risk. This means in forecasting the interest rate and the market price of interest rate risk, the nonparametric method is more appropriate than the parametric method.

  • The response surface method (RSM) became one of famous meta modeling techniques, however its approximation errors give designers several restrictions. Classical RSM uses the least squares method (LSM) to find the best fitting approximation models from the all given data. This paper discusses how to construct RSM efficiently and accurately using moving least squares method (MLSM) with sensitivity information. In this method, several parameters should be determined during the construction of RSM. Parametric study and optimization for these parameters are performed. Several difficulties during approximation processes are described and numerical examples are demonstrated to verify the efficiency of this method.
